Well, the grass is never really greener, despite appearances from afar, so after thinking about it on and off for a few years I think I'd probably just stay put. I'm in a very popular city that's getting more and more expensive (for the nice parts anyway), so if it ends up getting too overpopulated by the time I retire and grown up kids are living elsewhere anyway I may think about a move then.

It's not as simple as thinking of where you've enjoyed going for leisure for a weekend away or a week's holiday. Living somewhere is entirely different.

The Cotswolds or a swanky London pad would be the dream.

More realistically I would be more than happy with somewhere in a nice village in Flintshire N Wales.

Close enough to family in Manchester and also Manchester City centre. Rural enough we would still get some lovely countryside walks, fresh air and no bother. Close enough to Chester you could nip in for a city trip. Close to Llandudno for the sea. My sister lives in a tiny village there down a country lane with no neighbours. She gets no bother and the thrills of a rural place whilst not being rural at all and close to everything.

It’s freezing though!

Anglesey or the Lake District. I like a lot of cities but too busy and fast paced for me to want to live there. I would like to spend Summer in Brighton but not so keen in Winter.

Don’t live in the Lake District.
It rains all the time
Its full of tourists every fecking day of the year.
Want to go shopping? Well unless you want a waterproof coat, boots or chocolate in the shape of sheep shit -tough.
Shopping for food? Yeah great until you realise you can’t get a parking space as the place is FULL OF TOURISTS.
Miles from any airport.
Nearly every house is rendered.
If you havent got 3 generations in the churchyard you are a newcomer.
Theres nothing to do unless you are into fell walking or sheep.
However, im glad i lived there for a few years as it was a lovely place to get married -but i would never ever move back.

Good luck finding a nice bit now.
Tom Cruise is moving out of his £35million Mayfair penthouse because of crime.

What happened to Tom Cruise?

MinnieMountain · 09/02/2026 05:49

North Pembrokeshire. I grew up there and I miss the sea. DH and I plan to move there once DS goes to university.

Where abouts in South Yorkshire and why do you like it so much ?

A ‘green’ bit of Barnsley! Low house prices enabling us to now own our home outright and make it lovely. Nice community schools. Close to Sheffield and the Peak District. A (now!) brilliant town centre with fanatic market. A rich industrial history. The best accent in the world.

AutumnLover1989 · 09/02/2026 06:24

Back where I grew up(South Ascot) or the Cotswolds.

It sounds like we are near each other. I rather like our "green" bit of Barnsley.

The investment in the town centre is fantastic isn't it? People come from other nearby towns in Yorkshire to go shopping because their town centres are dying.

Just realised I’d written ‘fanatic’! 🤭

Yes, Barnsley town centre is lovely now! Really really lovely! Had a trip into Doncaster before christmas, which we used to do a lot but my god, it’s changed!

He decided he didn't like where he lived so moved.

RattleAndHump · 09/02/2026 08:25

London.

tilypu · 09/02/2026 08:25

Edinburgh.

I'm within commuting distance, so I wouldn't be moving far.

I still love London for a few days ( so deffo not a hater) but I don’t want to move back anymore having assumed I would. I was born in a seaside town on the south coast and have ended up in another one. I realised I just like being near the sea. When in London we had a flat on the Thames which was great too- it’s sort of the sea 🤣

I live in a flat on the Thames and yes it's the sea! When the tide is low there's a 'beach' well the foreshore where people go mudlarking.

I'll never move but wouldn't mind a flat on the Liverpool waterfront, or maybe a weekend place in Whitstable... bit of a theme here 😊

its really good to hear this about Barnsley - proves with a bit of imagination and investment turnarounds can be made -

I’m by always suprised when people say the lakes , I can see it’s scenically attractive - but I find it really gloomy and as someone who likes pottering around proper shops and isn’t sporty or wanting to hike in the pissing rain, for me it wouldn’t cut the mustard other than day trips - we do have some similar issues here in Bath too come spring onwards , but it is balanced by good shopping and lots of nice bars and cafes etc -

In the town in North Yorkshire where I was raised, it is now jam-packed with southerners & Londoners who’ve sold up and moved here. No idea if there’s been a kind of marketing campaign or something but there’s now more southern accents round here than native ones. Even every teacher (inc. the head) in DD’s school is from either London, Hampshire, Kent or Essex! So much so that the local accent is beginning to be a sort of hybrid between loud southerners and the northern pronunciations (bath instead of barrrrth etc). It’s quite funny really. DD now says plarrrrster and demarrrnd 😌

You want to live in London if you think somewhere is full of outsiders and non-locals. Away with your casual bigotry.
I am lucky enough to live in London zone 2, very near Hampstead Heath with outstanding public transport, shops etc and great community. It’s not the very posh village part but I prefer it and love it.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 09/02/2026 10:45

Somewhere very rural and remote (apparently, I already live in the a*-end of nowhere, so that would further horrify people). I'd have a smallholding to keep bees, poultry and sheep, and attempt to grow more of my own fruits and vegetables.

Jasmin71 · 09/02/2026 10:48

City York
Country North Lakes
