The Lake District

REDB99 · 08/02/2026 21:48

Northumberland, planning on buying somewhere there when my DD finishes school - only 10 years to wait!

I think Yorkshire. The east of the country has less rain and more blue skies than the west. I love the coast. I love feeling connected too. Cornwall is out on a limb and too mizzly. I love Wales so much, but the rain is too much for me. I love East Scotland too, but that is far from people and colder. Yorkshire is so close to so much natural beauty, and also to cities. And it is cheaper than the south. I especially love Flamborough.

sorryIdidntmeanto · 08/02/2026 21:54

Also the Lakes. Just wonderful. I like how easy it is to get in them.

DominoLover51 · 08/02/2026 21:54

Nearer to central London, probably Balham/Clapham area. Currently live in Sutton so know I’m lucky to be as close to London. As I am

Where are they then ? How many do you have and do you see them alot ?

3 GC, 10 minutes away and close to London in a semi rural area. See them 2/3 times a week. Don’t care about where in the world we are as long as these lovely little GC are part of our lives.

Apologies, just seen it says UK. Nowhere else I want to I’ve as I have grandchildren nearby,

AllJoyAndNoFun · 08/02/2026 22:00

I still love London for a few days ( so deffo not a hater) but I don’t want to move back anymore having assumed I would. I was born in a seaside town on the south coast and have ended up in another one. I realised I just like being near the sea. When in London we had a flat on the Thames which was great too- it’s sort of the sea 🤣

Autumngirl5 · 08/02/2026 22:10

Great post! I am living in my favourite place, the Cotswolds. Just love it but I would like a holiday place in Wales.

DanceMumTaxi · 08/02/2026 22:15

I would absolutely love to live in London but only if I had some serious money. Think big lottery win. Life would just be hard and miserable with our current income, which is very good but not for London.

Longsight2019 · 08/02/2026 22:29

Staithes is lovely. No, not Staines.

Dolamroth · 08/02/2026 22:30

Northumberland, by the sea. I'd like to be able to see the Farne Islands from my window.

ChaliceinWonderland · 08/02/2026 22:33

Probably Devon near croydebay. Or culloden near Inverness. Or Margate which is stunning.

freakingscared · 08/02/2026 22:35

The highlands where I live now . I moved from England and have no intentions of ever returning .

LeopardSlippers · 08/02/2026 22:40

Somewhere on the Moray coast. A very underrated part of Scotland that lots of people miss because it's not on the main tourist trail. Full of gorgeous beaches too!

paulb2017 · 08/02/2026 22:40

Broadstairs

namechangeformeeee · 08/02/2026 22:42

Equal time split between SW London and Edinburgh!

SchoolDilemma17 · 08/02/2026 20:47

South Kensington if I had the money

Gosh, yes, me too!
Or Hampstead.

I currently live nowhere near London, and could never afford to move there 🙁

Crikeyalmighty · 08/02/2026 22:47

I live in Bath so it’s not as if I’m anywhere grotty but would probably pick either Hampstead as son lives in a flat share there or a nice bit of Kingston /richmond area- where we’ve lived before as like the shopping, park and easy access to London and airports

Dollymylove · 08/02/2026 22:48

Inverness or the Cotswolds

Ihaveneedofwaternear · 08/02/2026 22:53

Northumberland. Beautiful coast. Beautiful countryside.

TheChosenTwo · 08/02/2026 22:53

By the sea. Probably still the south of England though as our family are all here. We are about 45 minutes away from the sea at the moment but I’d like it much closer, something incredibly therapeutic about being by the sea. I find it very relaxing, especially at night.

What made you move and what differences are there for you. ?

PurpleLovecats · 08/02/2026 22:57

I’d probably just buy a bigger house where I live now (Stratford upon Avon).
