Teaspoons ….

Where the hell do they go?

I bought a whole new set just a month ago. Gone! Everyone in the house denies any knowledge of where they go so I was wondering if MN has any insight. I’m wondering if they hang out with odd socks?

My tea spoons regularly go walk about also, I suspect the DC chuck them in the bin with their yoghurt pots.

sallymonella · 08/02/2026 15:38

Yes, bin and down the sides/under beds

Somuchtodotoolittletimetodoit · 08/02/2026 15:41

It’s forks in our house. They must be with the odd socks. One of life’s mysteries!

rainbowunicorn22 · 08/02/2026 16:02

bought some of those long handled tea spoons ideal for yoghurts ice cream etc saves getting mucky hands.
Not long ago our desert spoons went. if you have never tried eating muesli with an egg spoon or a tea spoon i do not recommend it! takes an eternity to eat it

chocciechocface · 08/02/2026 16:10

We don’t eat the little yoghurt that comes in pots. Nor do we have sugar in our tea. It’s baffling.

All of our forks and spoons were discovered in ds1's room after he went to uni. I wouldn't put it past him to have yours as well.

BringBackTheLight · 08/02/2026 16:14

Do you have teenagers? I found 17 in dds room once. Some were under her mattress, under her wardrobe, in her drawers.

Then again I know I have w in my handbag that ive used for lunch on the road and not taken out yet

chocciechocface · 08/02/2026 16:14

I turned DDs room over while she was away, suspecting similar. No luck. I was so sure I’d find them. In the meanwhile, she is outraged I tidied her room.

Not sure I checked under the wardrobe. Or in the wardrobe. I’ll have to have another go.

I have no idea but I’m missing 3, all other cutlery not missing. I blame dsd, one day I’m checking under her bed

Flidina · 08/02/2026 16:41

When my kids were young, I got sick of buying them, didn't matter how many I bought they always went missing.I gave up in the end and bought a massive pack of plastic ones , we had them for years. I have proper teaspoons now, they've all grown up and all but one has left home, I'm very tempted to go round their houses and hide their teaspoons!

petermaddog · 08/02/2026 17:02

forks here

sesquipedalian · 08/02/2026 17:07

How old are your DC? I once found a whole lot in the sandpit…

jaundicedoutlook · 08/02/2026 17:29

I’ve lost a teaspoon once. Ever. However, I strongly discourage (with prejudice) anybody eating outside the kitchen or (during summer) the garden.

The missing spoon was found a little later that day in the cat’s litter tray. I expect the dog knocked one off the table then carried it to the litter, where she sometimes goes in the hope of finding a snack (I know). The spoon was disposed of.

Georgiepud · 08/02/2026 17:33

I have found them on occasions in the slops caddy. I think people throw out their teabags and the spoon goes in too.

foodlovefood · 08/02/2026 17:34

I seemed to have culminated random forks and spoons. I had a matching set that random unmatched forks have joined. No one knows where the mud matches have come from.

Lift the mattress too. I was disgusted 🤣🙈

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 08/02/2026 18:21

My kids seem to chuck them in the bin with yoghurt. Were working on it…along with toilet roll replacement

Too old for sandpits, sadly. That would make sense. The silent disappearance is creepy (I’ve just finished watching The Hobbit so I’ve moved onto otherworldly suspicions).

I found a couple of teaspoons over the years that weren't put back after someone had used the spoons to reach the bottom of some canisters, then screwed the lids back on!
They were missing for ages!

Gliblet · 08/02/2026 20:53

One of my coworkers has a theory that they grow up, that's why you end up with dessert spoons you don't remember buying, but no teaspoons. It's such a well known phenomenon that an Australian research team published a paper on it last year 😁"The case of the disappearing teaspoons: longitudinal cohort study of the displacement of teaspoons in an Australian research institute"

Flannelfeet · 08/02/2026 21:00

The borrowers take them. Im sure i seen pod raking out my herb garden with one of my desert forks in the summer.

He should of just asked for some or at least left a note to save me scratching my heid wondering where they went. Thieving bastard. 🤷🏼‍♀️

menopausalmare · 08/02/2026 21:05

Teaspoons turn themselves into odd socks and Tupperware lids.

jetlag92 · 08/02/2026 21:13

And us! No idea where they go - everywhere checked and bins checked too.
