Have you read his other books
there is a trilogy that start with the
business of dying
A good day to die
Payback

it’s about a group of organised paedophiles who called themselves The Hunters
They are In the highest part of the establishment
( lords ladies MPs Judges Celebrities )
they get the kids from a children home
a police man - Dennis Milne who is also a partime hit man 😂 and he accidentally undercover this when on the case of a young girl who was murdered

There is also a super Uber rich man - who is there Mr Fixer for anything that goes wrong

any of this sound familiar 😂it was written in 2007 I think so way before all of latest stuff of Epstein Andrew Mandelson

It sounds far fetched but if you liked relentless then you would definitely like these

he wrote a lot of crime / thriller books and I’ve read them all

he is one of my favourite authors him and Stephen Leatherr

I read Rivals like that when I was a student. I thought I would read a few chapters before bed and kept going and going, stayed up all night, finished at like 8am. Jilly Cooper was a legend…..

I love Rider Rivals Polo
I still read them now 😂
and the tv series was pretty good & funny apart from Rupert not being blonde 😂

I bet youd look good in a coffin and How to muder men and get away with it.
Katy Brent.
Totally different and hilariously dark

Depends on what you like
but I am Pilgrim by Terry Haynes is one book I stayed up till 5 am reading it

it’s a thriller with some really good twist

if you like police type books
then Peter James books are really good
you can read them as stand alone or as a series

Three years of bookclub and we all still agree that 'I am pilgrim' is the best book. Totally awesome!

Yes! Just the thing, not too taxing but kept my interest.

Alias Grace and The Handmaids Tale both Atwood.

HopeSpringsInfernal · 09/02/2026 18:24

I agree with the recommendations for Elly Griffiths' Ruth Galloway books, also -

Slow Horses by Mick Herron,
Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons

Alias Grace and The Handmaids Tale both Atwood.

Great books but too much for a “read for hours non stop” imo

Just finished Don't Let Him In by Lisa Jewell. Brilliant. Couldn't put it down. Carried it around the house with me in case I could squeeze in more reading.

AmyDudley · 13/02/2026 12:41

Books I've enjoyed recently
James by Percival Everett (my book of the year last year, he's a fabulous writer)
Babel by R F Kuang - I read this while recovering from surgery last year, and loved it.
Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus - I loved it but it got a mixed reception at my book club.

And I second Any Human Heart - I love William Boyd.

If you like detective/ thriller type of stuff, I love Kate Rhodes, Angela Marsons, Jane Casey (the Maeve Kerrigan books, great characters)
Also recently discovered the Ambrose Parry 'Will Raven' books if you like historical mysteries. (Ambrose Parry is a psuedonym for Chris Brookmyre and his wife writing together).

The Red Tent by Anita Diamant.

Read it more than 20 years ago but still remember it being totally unputdownable.

ElizabethVonArnim · 13/02/2026 13:35

William Boyd is great. I always feel a bit meh about his books when judging by the cover but they’re just so readable. I do forget them afterwards though!

Fourth Wing - really engaging - but it is fantasy so not everyone’s cup of tea.

I love hearing peoples recomendations- we did fourth wing in our book club and half loved it and half hated it and thought the weird dragon sex was bizarre haha!

I real 'The Names' by Florence someone recently...her debut novel. Incredible!
