How many pregnancy tests have you taken in your life?

I've taken 4. 3 were positive and the 4th was thankfully negative after a late period and feeling like I had symptoms.

I'm mid 40s and periods are all over the place but I was reflecting earlier how, now that dh has had the snip, I don't need to keep track of when I'm due on. It feels like a relief!

2 just in a panic because I had a late period and weird symptoms, but well before I had any interest in having babies (and was on the pill), thankfully negative both times. Probably 3 with each of my pregnancies (2 healthy pregnancies and 1 was a mc), and 1 after a late in life oopsie when I timed everything wrong 😬 (thankfully also negative).

I got pregnant first or 2nd cycle each time we tried and always knew that I was pregnant so never did the months of BFNs while TTC.

The answers seem wild to me. I can't imagine the experience of people who've only ever done one or two!
I did one as a panicked 18 year old, thankfully negative. Then dozens and dozens when TTC and having fertility treatment in my late 20s, probably in to the hundreds I'd have thought. Ironically the three times I have been pregnant I knew it was going to be positive before doing the test.

I think the people who have done few (like me) are probably a bit older & in those days the tests were a lot less accurate & noone tested until they'd missed their period by at least a few days. Plus they were expensive (& slightly before my time you had to take a urine sample to the pharmacy). You wouldn't just buy a load of internet cheapies, you had to go to boots or wherever & buy a single expensive test.

None and I'm 45 so don't expect that number will change!

8TinyToeBeans · 06/02/2026 14:42

None.

Miranda65 · 06/02/2026 15:07

One. And that was only because I was going to see a GP about stopped periods, and didn't want to look stupid by not having categorically ruled out pregnancy. Obviously, it was negative.
Now aged 60, so there won't be any more.
I'm so glad that I've never tried to be (nor suspected I was) pregnant, because it has made life a whole lot simpler.

Zero.

I’ve hardly ever had fully unprotected sex (like him not even pulling out), so never felt the need to.

The OBGYN always does a pregnancy test at my annual, and most other appointments (like before getting coil fitted), but I’ve never taken a test myself.

Tisfortired · 06/02/2026 15:27

I’m going to say around 40.

3 children, 3 losses.

RS1987 · 06/02/2026 15:31

Lost count but estimate about 100-150. 3 pregnancies but tried a long time for my first, also had a termination once and had to test a few times after.

Sartre · 06/02/2026 15:39

No idea, at least 20. I’ve been pregnant 8 times in total, 3 were miscarriages and I took a couple of tests to double check each time. Plus had a couple of scares over the years. DH had a vasectomy 5 years ago so no longer have to worry.

MrMainwaring · 06/02/2026 15:42

Four. The first confirmed that I was 11 weeks pregnant.

The second test was negative, but the third test, taken 2 weeks after the second one, was positive and confirmed that I was indeed pregnant (8 weeks) as I had thought.

The fourth was also positive and confirmed that I was 8 weeks pregnant.

In those days, all pregnancy tests were done via the GP surgery. Firstly I had to go to the surgery to request a sample vial. Then the next day take the sample and hand it over at the surgery. Then wait for up to a week before getting the results.

We were only allowed to request a test if it had been at least six weeks since the last period. The preference was for women to wait at least eight weeks (ie until they had missed two periods) before testing, as the tests sometimes gave a false negative result if done too early (as happened with my second test).

None but have 2 children.

familyissues12345 · 06/02/2026 15:55

Ooh I don’t know for sure, but I’ve had 4 pregnancies (2 ended in MMC), and I reckon maybe 5 or 6 scares?

Girasoli · 06/02/2026 15:57

Quite a few - my periods weren't very regular when I was late teens/early 20s. They disappeared completely when I was a vegetarian for a bit.

When TTC maybe 5 or 6?

Sprogonthetyne · 06/02/2026 16:07

Dozens, but most of those were when I knew I was in the early stages of pregnancy, and watching the line get darker. I've tested on 6 occasions. Two resulting in DC, one positive but ended as an early loss, 3 negatives.

sarahwarah11 · 06/02/2026 17:17

None. It never occurred to me to test. I missed a period and went to the GP both times.

Razapple · 06/02/2026 17:21

More than I can count. I would test constantly in all of my early pregnancies.
