How many pregnancy tests have you taken in your life?

I've taken 4. 3 were positive and the 4th was thankfully negative after a late period and feeling like I had symptoms.

I'm mid 40s and periods are all over the place but I was reflecting earlier how, now that dh has had the snip, I don't need to keep track of when I'm due on. It feels like a relief!

  1. As a previous poster said, expensive. The first one was done by my GP (36 years ago) and the second was done by me (23 years ago).

Stated having sex at 15 (with another 15 year old) and despite being on contraception and using condoms I was so paranoid I used to take one basically every month 😭. We were together two years, but after the first year I pretty much got over it. I still remember him saying “this is so much plastic waste”, he was a proper environmentalist, he still is. After that I have only ever taken three - and they were all positive. My last pregnancy my mum actually knew befor me and told me to take a test because I was “acting pregnant” and I thought she was mad… no she wasn’t.

Hundreds if not thousands

TheDandyLion · 05/02/2026 22:07

None.

ResusciAnnie · 05/02/2026 22:08

4, 3 positive.

(not counting any that may have been at the docs but don’t know why they would have been… UTI screening maybe??)

boxofbuttons · 05/02/2026 22:22

Three that I bought myself - all negative (as I wanted them to be!).

And then 10-12 when I was on roaccutane and had to be tested every month. Maybe there was one before I had some surgery a few years ago? I can't remember.

PurpleLovecats · 05/02/2026 22:24

About 6 I think.

Soonflower · 05/02/2026 22:25

40 maybe? Loads.

Been PG 5 times so there was definitely 5…

Think there may have been a couple of panics when i was much younger.

Never did the testing when I was TTC or did multiple tests if we were TTC and AF didn’t turn up though. You only need one positive test to let you know what’s going on Smile

KitchenQuestion · 05/02/2026 22:31

I used to test every other month when I was on the implant and didn’t get periods. I’m a paranoid type. None of those were ever positive.

I’ve only done one thinking it was likely that I was pregnant (as we were TTC) and I was right.

Mama1980 · 05/02/2026 22:39

2 - positive both times, 2 birth children.

Rachie1973 · 05/02/2026 22:40

5 in total. All positive.

First one ended in miscarriage but the other 4 are adults now :)

JulietteNichols · 05/02/2026 22:42

3 altogether.
One panicking thankfully negative.
2 positive.

Sonolanona · 06/02/2026 07:32
  1. All positive ... resulting in 4 kids all very close in age!
Zipperdeedooda · 06/02/2026 12:09

Not dissimilar to @tinybeautiful

Hundreds, probably about 300.

17 years of fertility treatment, in the UK and overseas.

Crunchymum · 06/02/2026 12:25

Many, many, many.

Recurrent miscarriage (7 losses) and eventually 3 successful pregnancies. Plus all the months when TTC.

Although hoping I never need to take another one as I'm 45 and my baby days are done.

HattiesBag · 06/02/2026 12:28

Soo many. A few in my youth which were all thankfully negative. A couple each cycle when TTC number 1 (5 cycles). Then so many when manically TTC a 2nd child that took 2 years. I'd say 6-8 per cycle. All cheapies!
Back testing again now as we try for number 3.

So...200?

Nomedshere · 06/02/2026 12:30

3
All positive

BendSinister · 06/02/2026 12:33

One, fourteen and a half years ago. I still have it somewhere. My lovely teenager was the result.

7238SM · 06/02/2026 12:34

Likely 100's. We TTC 12yrs, lost 3 and have no living children.

Imamumgetmeoutofhere · 06/02/2026 12:39

Honestly, close in the region of 100. Miscarriages and secondary infertility made me rather obsessive about checking there was still a line.

I have 2 children

LividArse · 06/02/2026 12:43

Hundreds. I had 4 IVF miscarriages and a miracle.

I would sometimes start from like 4dpo because I was certifiably insane.

Usually the cheap strips. Saved the FRERs for when there was a line.

Rayqueen2026 · 06/02/2026 13:40

Only 1 and that was before a surgery they checked alsorts before hand however we have 9 kids and always knew they just told me at the dr's once i was late enough and went for there verification
