What automatically makes you think people are idiots?

For me it’s:

people who think that Michael Jackson isn’t a pedophile.

people who say things like “Londanistan” “Bradfordistan”

People who say “If the Holocaust is real, why do the tattoo numbers only go up to 5 digits”

OP posts:
Acommonreader · 10/02/2026 18:05

People who genuinely believe that all their problems are caused by less than 2% of the population aka boat people.

What about the ones who believe that all their problems are caused by less than 2% of the population aka Billionaires?

So many of the ones already mentioned. I’ve read down the thread nodding like a bobble head!

People who refute new info/guidance with the phrase ‘it didn’t do me any harm’ Things like starting solids before 6 months, controlled crying/sleep training, naughty step for undesirable behaviour. All those ‘we drank from the hose and rode our bikes dawn til dusk and survived’ types.

People who don’t reverse park.

Yes to all of these. Especially the parking! It’s an acknowledgment that you are a shit driver who chooses laziness over safety.

eastegg · 10/02/2026 19:51

People who ask ‘why do horse riders not have to pick up their animal’s poo when dog owners do?’ And if you think no-one would be so stupid, take a look at the thread!

Using a laugh emoji about a serious topic as the sum total of their argument to indicate disagreement with another person.

Or a sad face emoji as a reaction to genuinely sad news. Or a surprised face emoji at shocking news. Or exclamation marks for serious points:

I heard your brother died of cancer!! 😢

Train derails in London killing 17 😮

Newname09 · 10/02/2026 22:49

People who share those Facebook posts to win houses or ridiculously expensive prizes when they’ve clearly come from a fake spam page.

also people on Facebook that say ‘I bet no one will share this post about cancer, blah blah’ and you have to comment ‘done’ to prove you’ve done it.

Family members know the woman that won a house in the Lake District. Utterly life changing for them both on modest salaries now they have a whole extra house.

I don’t agree that it’s a war!
If you want facts:

  1. Israel is an occupying power
  2. Under international law, the people being occupied have a right to violent resistance.
  3. Hamas, who were only formed in the 1980s, are the people in resistance against that occupation.

It is not a war and, in reference to the title of this thread, if you’re not part of the online propaganda machine to keep Israel in good light, and you genuinely believe that it’s a war…then I think you’re stupid.

Resistance? You think the rape, kidnap snd murder of thousands of people, most of them civilians, is resistance?

Curious about things like this.

I know that the house win comes with money too but surely people on modest salaries cannot realistically up sticks and move to this fab new home? I mean sure, they have a stash in the bank but with massive council tax to pay etc and a second home on which to pay increased CT.....how would that work? Surely selling a valuable house (valuable at least on paper) takes time and money. And selling their current home wont raise enough to maintain the posh one, so how does it work?

I live in the W/E Mids borders. My home is mortgage free and worth about 180k. If I won an expensive house anywhere else, I wouldnt be able to live there as I have a child in school here and family that I care for. So what then?

Genuinely want to know how people make that sort of win work!

Anyone who has ever uttered the words 'I follow this influencer...'

It amuses me every time that influencers are honest enough to call themselves influencers. They literally admit they are trying to manipulate you into a particular viewpoint or lifestyle or purchase of a product.

If it's the likes of Omaze, they usually advertise that they give you a generous cash lump sum as well, to help you transition - so this would presumably be enough to tide you over paying the basic costs for the house until the sale goes through. Some of the comps give you a posh, expensive car as a bonus - which could be sold in a matter of days and release a lot more liquid funds in the meantime.

I think they expect most of their winners to not keep the house and move their family into it. Realistically, they know that a few will move in, some will start a holiday letting business with it, but most will stick it straight on the market (maybe after having a holiday there themselves first).

The houses tend to be ones with 'issues' or circumstances that make them less desirable than they otherwise could be - not insurmountable ones, but things that will impact the claimed value of the house. If they claim a value of, say, £5m and you paid them that and later only managed to sell it for £3m, that would be devastating; but if you 'only' got £2m or £3m by selling a supposed '£5m house' that you won after paying £10 for a raffle ticket, I don't think many people would cry into their cornflakes for too long!

Some supermarkets used to specify to do that on the conveyer belt. I am not sure if they still do-I always use the self-checkout.

Very late to this party but YES put the bottles on lengthways you fucking idiots.

I think so too.

But I’m not a person living in grinding poverty who is already in dire competition for quality of life. The “boat people” might not directly make my life harder, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t millions of people’s lives who are made harder, and on a much more stark daily basis than the billionaires affect them.

This too!!
Unless I am mistaken, there are only three possible ways to put a bottle on a conveyor belt and two of them (lying down across the belt and standing up) do not work. Who are the fuckwits that keep doing this instead of lying bottles down lengthways?!

Dontlletmedownbruce · 11/02/2026 10:44

People who start threads about how much they hate all men. Another one today on AIBU. As if it's ok to automatically hate a human based on their sex. Then I guess it's ok to hate based on skin colour, class or ability. They are just idiotic bigots and sadly too many on here.

Which skin colour, class or disability is responsible for 98% of sex crimes and 80% violent crimes?
Which skin colour, class or disability murder two women, they are in/ or have been in relationships with, every single week in the UK?

Or at the very least, if you really must lay them width-ways, buttress them in with your tins, packs of peas and bags of potatoes. Don't just put them on last and expect a flimsy little 'next customer please' baton to hold them in place!

Surely bread always goes on last so it doesn't get squashed and any car snacks so they are easily accessible 😂
I'm prepared to accept that I have a very strong set of checkout rules which might contribute to me believing that everyone else is a conveyor belt idiot....

Males commit 98% of the sexual and violent crimes that occur. That’s not including ‘low level’ stuff. So no, it’s not the same. Maybe listen to their experiences at the hands of men (more so than women) before launching to idiotic bigots.

I don't think anybody is denying that the vast majority of/virtually all of these horrific crimes are committed by men. It's just that, reading all the MN threads, there seems to be a widespread assumption that '98% of sex crimes are committed by men' = '98% of men commit sex crimes'; not to mention that all/virtually all of the 'decent' ones "would do it if they thought they could get away with it". Many don't even say "men as a sex class" - they just go all in for "They're all the same".

Most scam phone calls received in the UK appear to originate from Indian people working in scam call centres in India. Therefore, I don't know what the actual figures are, but it may well be correct to factually say that "90% of phone scammers are Indian". Does this then make it true to say that "90% of Indians are lying, thieving scammers"? Absolutely and unequivocally not in any way whatsoever. Anybody believing that is most manifestly an odious racist and clearly not very bright. But people might counter with "OK, maybe not all Indians... but it's always Indians" before calling for all Indian people living in the UK to be banned from owning a phone; or sneering "Oh, yes, I know - NAIALT - I'm sure Mrs Patel who runs your local shop is lovely and would never try to steal from anybody..."

I don't bother engaging in those threads anymore, as they inevitably get aggressive and nasty towards anybody offering an alternative perspective - and spitting that "You must be a man", as though happening to be male like 50% of all people is automatically the most vile, shameful thing that anybody could possibly do. I just leave them to it as, just like their incel counterparts on countless Reddit threads, they've made up their minds and just want people to agree with them and validate their prejudice.
