Does anyone else "hear electricity"?

Just that really. I've always wondered if this is normal. I can't get to sleep because I can hear a low pitched hum..I always hear it but tonight it's annoying me, & the only way I describe it is, it sounds like electricity?? Weird!

A lot of mains-powered devices these days have switch mode power supplies in them that work by increasing mains frequency to much higher frequencies before converting the power to a lower voltage and then converting to DC rather than AC. Those high frequencies can make the electronic components vibrate slightly which can be heard if you're young and/or have good hearing. As you get older your ability to hear such high frequencies diminishes.

Yes.

But I can also see air. I confused my mum a lot when I was small, asking her what all the coloured dots in front of my eyes were. It's just the pixels that make up the world. But I don't think other people can see it.

I can also see air! This is so validating, the few people I've mentioned this to in the oast have looked at me like I was strange 🥲

I have never really thought about this until now but I can hear static..
My hearing has got better as I have got older and I have to wear earplugs if I go to the cinema. Also probably ASD, can't bear loud squeaky voices. Difficulty wih busy places and people shouting. It physically hurts. But loud music all the way. I also picked up a musical instrument 6 months ago and can play by ear quite easily as I listen along to something without thinking about it really. Yes interesting thread.

Very interesting. I especially like the explanations of those who know about these things. This explains my irritation with the plug straighg into the wall cables
Thank you!! Ps ( not the pylon one though)

I can't bear most music, especially anything repetive. I don't tend to hear the words. I'm wondering if my parents diagnosis of ' weirdo' could have been handled differently.
