Hi!
I'm so determined to find this book. I had it in 2013 when I was unwell with some quite significant mental health difficulties.

It has a Mississippi mud cake. Roughly the third cake in the book is chocolate fudge and it contains ground almonds and golden syrup. There was also a coffee cake and some sort of cake which you made the batter and then a crumb for the top.

I really don't know if this is enough clues!

Sorry, I doubt very much if anyone will be able to identify this book from such scant information

It's obviously from a baking book rather than a general recipe book with a chapter of cakes

I think I had several cupcake books that were published about 20 years ago which included recipes for bigger cakes ~ I think they were the Primrose Bakery & Hummingbird Bakery ones. Kate Shirazi also wrote some lovely baking books at around that time, I think

Sorry, I can't think of any others . . .

I'm secretly hoping that someone will say "I love that recipe" and have the book and be able to send me a picture of the cover 😂

What did the front cover look like? Sounds like a cake recipe book but there are literally hundreds, if not thousands!

Can you remember anything else about the book?

Charity shops (& libraries) often have a nice selection of older recipe books so it may be worth taking a look to see if you can find it

martha79 · 31/01/2026 21:28

Could it be a Mary Berry one? Baking Bible maybe? I've got a chocolate fudge cake recipe by her that uses ground almonds instead of flour, and I'm sure I've seen her do cakes with a crunchy topping.

TalulahJP · 31/01/2026 21:31

i remember reading a chicklit type book which weirdly had some recipes in it.

i cannot remember the story or anything just that it was odd. i always meant to maje them but didnt!! is it that kind of book.

Hagnumber4 · 31/01/2026 21:31

I'm fairly sure it had flour and ground almonds. Like 40g ground almonds.

It could be Mary berry but I feel like it was before I knew who she was.

Oh god. I was so unwell, my memory is so fuzzy

Is it a nigella one? Can recall a ground almond chocolate torte

I don't recognise the cover of the hummingbird one. The Mary berry one is a contender, but again I don't recognise the cover.

I'm downloading a sample on my kindle to check them out and compare.

I can vaguely remember one written by Jane Brocket . . . I think it was called Vintage Cakes. Lovely selection of recipes and gorgeous photography.

Hagnumber4 · 31/01/2026 21:56

I'll look it up, thank you. I've just messaged my niece who was like 12 when we last used it

You might need to give us a bit more information for that.

Was it a baking/cake book or did it contain other recipes?
Was it recently published in 2013 or was it an older book?
Was it by someone well known or someone you'd never heard of?
Paperback/hardback, large/small, person on the cover or some other design?

Hagnumber4 · 31/01/2026 22:06

This is the issue. I was so unwell. It was the only thing I could focus on at the time.
I know it was just a baking book.

I've got a vague memory of a baking book by a famous Irish author who used baking to help her mental health . . . could it have been that one?

I'll try and find her name . . .

HoorayHattie · 31/01/2026 22:13

. . . It was called "Saved by Cake" by Marian Keyes

FridgeJenga · 31/01/2026 22:13

This one

Well this one definitely contains recipes for Mississippi Mud cake, chocolate fudge cake and chocolate fudge, a streusel cake (cake with a crumb on top).

Threelionsandalioness · 31/01/2026 22:15

Was it either of these two? I remember these were quite popular around that time ?
If not I hope you find it xx

I've just looked at the hummingbird one again - the sample on kindle. It didn't have cupcakes first. It was big cakes first.

Ah I'm sorry, I'm being so frustrating!!
