Hi!
I'm so determined to find this book. I had it in 2013 when I was unwell with some quite significant mental health difficulties.

It has a Mississippi mud cake. Roughly the third cake in the book is chocolate fudge and it contains ground almonds and golden syrup. There was also a coffee cake and some sort of cake which you made the batter and then a crumb for the top.

I really don't know if this is enough clues!

Ah the missippi recipe is different in the nigella one.
Chat got came up with the Australia women's weekly one.

Not turning up anything so far. I've just told me husband I'm going to turn the whole loft out tomorrow just incase I kept it but we are getting over bugs and he just replied "oh no you're not" 😂

Where did you get the book from? Do you remember if the recipe measurements were in grams or cups etc? Did it have photos?

I feel like it was grams. I've never really measured in cups. It did have photos.
It's possible that I got the book from Asda. I thought BBC good food was a fair chance but I've looked at the sample books and it doesn't seem to be right

I'm secretly hoping that someone will say "I love that recipe" and have the book and be able to send me a picture of the cover 😂

Your thread title will attract more novel readers than bakers. Maybe try again with ‘baking book’ in the thread title?

I'm fairly sure it had flour and ground almonds. Like 40g ground almonds.

It could be Mary berry but I feel like it was before I knew who she was.

Oh god. I was so unwell, my memory is so fuzzy

Unfortunately loads of recipes have flour and ground almonds . I have a meal that I've made hundreds of times but my X took the recipe book and I can't remember some of the ingredients, very annoying ! It was soy braised beef and carrots , just delicious and I miss it .

Sorry, no help but I am finding that cooking is really helping my mental health at the moment. When I first had a breakdown I couldn’t cook at all because I thought I would mess everything up so I wish you luck in finding it x

Could it be Mary Berry's baking bible? The first chapter is classic cakes and the 3rd recipe is a chocolate victoria sandwich. It has a Mississippi mud pie in it too and I think the others you mentioned

@TalulahJP I think you might have encountered the Joanne Fluke books. They’re cosy mysteries and the protagonist owns a cookie shop. Although it’s quite a popular thing in American cosy mysteries. (First ones were great, most recent are atrocious, think the author is now elderly and they appear to have let either AI or someone truly incompetent loose under her name.)

Hi
what about Sophie’s bakery for the broken hearted? A novel by Lolly Winston.
although it is a novel it has recipes in it.
i did read it 20 years ago(published in 2006)and can’t remember the recipes.
Trigger warning though as it is about a woman who becomes a widow at a young age after losing her husband to cancer.
hope you manage to find the book.
all the best.

Any chance you could have bought it from amazon? I managed to solve a similar query the other day for something I bought in 2014 by looking at my previous amazon orders. You can select per year.

Hummingbird bakery springs to mind, there are three different books, one's predominantly brown, one pink which has been posted, and another which is cake days. There is also primrose bakery which is another good one!

Yes, Mary Berry has lots of cake recipes. I always search BBC Goodfood website as well..as a retro search for any cookbook. Good luck, hope you find it.
