Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just finishing my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot. The cats have had breakfast, and are currently running round like loons 🤣.

Dd2's up and out already - one of her English teachers is running a revision session today as they're not available to run one over half term. She was collected, by her friends, to walk up about 20 minutes ago. When she gets in, she needs to sort the explosion she's created in both her room, and dd1's 🙈.

I've got the day to myself so I'm going to nip into town for a new water bottle for at work - mine looks a bit weird in the bottom. And I've seen a top on a Tik-Tok that I want to see if I can find...probably not but we'll see. I expect I'll look like a potato in it but 🤷‍♀️.

Before that, I need to tidy round the kitchen & hang some washing that's not quite done yet. One of us will be in before the rain that's forecast, to bring it in.

This afternoon, I plan to attach another side to the steeple of the thread crochet church I'm making...then another. Then there's just the roof to make! It's only taken me almost 4 years to master the church 🙈.

No idea what's for tea yet - I'm trying my best to use everything before shopping, so possibly the remains of a couple of packets of fish fingers/fish cakes, with chips and peas.

Tonight will be hunting for a house since court paperwork arrived yesterday, packing another box, and then reading for a while before bed 💤.

What about all of you? 🙂

Busy day for you.
We are currently all in PJs. I need to take a vinted parcel to the post office and then get my hair cut. That’s as far as I’ve got I’ve no idea what we are doing the rest of the day. I’d quite like to go out for tea but not sure DH would be up for it.

Crunchymum · 31/01/2026 09:04

Hi lucysmam

Happy weekend to you.

Just about to head out for swimming round 1, then home at 11 for swimming round 2 until 1.30pm. Middle child swims at quite an elite level now and this is one of the few squads who she could join being so young. So I suck up losing half a day a week to swimming.

This afternoon we have lots of chores (need to change all the bedding which I hate - it involves bunk beds and a super king so it's quite the endeavour). Kids have homework and their own chores.

This evening I'm doing chilli for dinner with nachos and dips.

Plan to continue our Stranger Things marathon this evening when youngest goes to bed. I missed all the fuss first time around.

Planning an early night and looking forward to the one day a week I don't have to set my alarm tomorrow - bet I'm awake at 6am.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 31/01/2026 09:04

Good morning lucysmam and others. I am impressed with crocheting because ive never mastered it.
Today i have had two coffees and a cuppa with a slice of toast. In an hour I'll head out for second breakfast with a friend at my local garden centre. After I've driven her home, i will go to aldi for some basics. Then home again to strip the bed and get sheets and the duvet cover washed. Dinner tonight is a mystery as yet. I have a hankering for chicken fajitas at some point soon, so I'll make sure i have all the bits for those. Otherwise it'll be a quiet day. Enjoy your day

Son not don 🤔

frozendaisy · 31/01/2026 09:05

Morning morning
just about to make coffee, it’s been a busy week for all so a morning of laundry and prep for next week
youngster has to get up now to go to drama rehearsal eldest needs to do some maths
afternoon they need to finish magazine rounds and go see grandma
we are having Sunday roast today (so confusing and changes the feel of the weekend) because we are out tomorrow and everyone sulks if they don’t get a weekend roast!

good luck with house hunting @lucysmam hope you find something quickly

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 31/01/2026 09:07

I had hoped your house situation had been sorted Lucysmam. I hope you find something suitable soon

Kim82 · 31/01/2026 09:09

Good morning everyone. I’m just about to go and make my second cup of tea and make a start on the mountain of washing I have to do. Dh is at work, dd11 has just woken up and is sprawled on the other sofa and dd18 is asleep (she came home from uni on Monday to come to my auntie’s funeral on Tuesday and has stayed since then as she’s not been well with tonsillitis so wanted to stay home - she’s going back either tomorrow or Monday).

Today we have our usual Tesco delivery soon, I have hoards of washing to catch up on, me and dd11 are at the hairdressers this afternoon and I need to go to the butchers for steak and to let dd11 pick what she wants as she doesn’t like steak. At some point today I also want to play with the new hoover dh bought which was delivered yesterday 😆. My house will no doubt be spotless later because of it!

This evening we’re having the aforementioned steak for tea with jacket potatoes then a night in front of the tv I think. I’m shattered today and could quite happily get back in bed but I’ll just have to make do with an early night tonight.

Bringyourfoldingchair · 31/01/2026 09:09

Good morning. Currently in bed with DH and DS3 drinking my second cup of coffee. Going to get up soon and have a tidy downstairs. It’s DS11s birthday party this afternoon so off to laser tag with a load of boys later. I went to the butchers and home bargains yesterday and got nice munchies for over the weekend so when we get home we will light the fire, get our cosies on and have some nice food and drinks. Enjoy your day everyone!

fouroclockrock · 31/01/2026 09:16

I got up around 8 and brought a cup of tea back to bed. Ive been scrolling here and john lewis since. Im tired from work and life really. I want more tea and something to eat so will drag myself up after this. No plans in particular but maybe a walk by the river or the general local area. Ive got the food shopping coming later tonight. I should really do something ‘productive’ but no idea what.

Lemondessert · 31/01/2026 09:27

Morning all. Just having a scroll and about to read my book. I have put some washing on and had a tidy. I’m taking youngest to their sport late morning. Hairdressers this afternoon. Might see dp this evening for a bridgerton catch up.

daffodilandtulip · 31/01/2026 09:31

I've just had yogurt and granola. Son and dog are still in bed. I'm about to dress and will take dog along the train tracks.

Son will emerge at noon, and he's finally agreed to a hair cut - not had it cut for two years! So very excited to get that done.

I've been teaching myself embroidery, which I'm beyond proud of, and I'm in the middle of a lovely piece that's going so well, so that's the afternoon plan.

Saturdays are normally chest teas but need to have a normal proper tea tonight, as tomorrow we have plans so will be a quick tea, but not sure what to make. Might get some chicken out.

Saturday night tv is reasonable at the moment, I do like all the crappy shows 😂

DilemmaDelilah · 31/01/2026 09:32

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

I had been wondering what was happening with your house @lucysmam , but I didn't like to ask as it must be incredibly difficult for you. I hope you find the perfect house in the perfect area at the perfect price.

I started off this morning with no particular plans.... Now:

Mr Dilemma has gone to local daughter's house to pick up yet more laundry to do. She will be getting a new washing machine, but she wants to put it in a different place so that won't be until the plumbing goes in, which won't be until the plumber has availability, so might not be for ages! They are a family of four with school and work uniforms, so there is a LOT of washing to do. So definitely washing and drying all weekend. I had a couple of things I wanted to wash but they will have to wait until next week. Otherwise we are more or less up to date with the laundry as I thought we would probably be asked to do her washing this weekend.

I have just received notification that some clothes I ordered from Sainsburys have come in, so Mr Dilemma will pick up that parcel on the way home.

I bought a Morrisons Too Good to Go bag early this morning, so we will go out to get that if it isn't cancelled AGAIN.

We went to a garden centre last week and saw a raised planter I would like to get, but didn't get it. Mr Dilemma has looked up the price of it on Amazon, and agrees it is an extremely cheap offer (for what it is) so I hope to persuade him that it would be a good idea for us to go and get it. Then, of course, we will need compost but I think I will be able to get that delivered. We have a chap who comes to do some work in the garden every couple of weeks, so we can get him to do the heavy lifting, I hope. I

mondaytosunday · 31/01/2026 09:33

I’m exhausted reading that OP!
Im still in bed. My son (22) has been here last few days and I will be driving him to the ferry later (hour and a half each way, he could and often does take the train, but we have nice chats when I drive). Before that we’ll have a yummy breakfast of ham and cheese croissants (my diet has been MIA since he’s been here), he’s got a couple of chores I’ve asked him to tackle then he’s off to local football match and I’ll try and tidy the kitchen which seems to always look like a bomb site when he’s here, and do some crochet of a piece that was supposed to have been finished by Christmas.
Later when I return from giving him a lift it will be leftovers from Indian takeaway and the show Goliath.

ShipshapeShore · 31/01/2026 09:34

House packing for moving in a couple of weeks. I'm getting a bit panicky about it but I think we're on track.

I'm in that gloriously awful book predicament of being deperate to get to the end but never wanting to finish it. All the Colours of the Dark - magnificent.

BCBird · 31/01/2026 09:36

You sound busy OP. Hope you find another house soon. I'm popping out to the post office and library, then going out with 2 friends for lunch. We are celebrating kicking January in the knackers!! Might do a bit of cooking later- we'll see. Need to do some ironing too. Rock and roll here. Have a good day everyone.

Mummysgonetobed · 31/01/2026 09:49

Happy weekend.

currently still in bed with a cuppa at dp’s but soon will be up, head home. Quick clean around and put some (more) washing on, then ds1 has a hair cut at 1. The other two will comeback from their dads at about 3. No plans yet for after that but it’s spag Bol for tea.

ive woken up with a gunky swollen eye so may have a trip to the chemist to find something for that!

Andnowshesapreschooler · 31/01/2026 09:50

My DH has taken DD for her dance class this morning whilst I sit in my dressing gown drinking coffee and hopefully getting over a chest infection.
Have an appointment I absolutely cannot miss later so hopefully the coffee and meds will help.

Thislittlekitten · 31/01/2026 09:53

Morning @lucysmam and Saturday Gang

Best of luck with the house move @lucysmam.

Im still in bed drinking tea. Cat and dog cuddled up. I demanded a slow morning as we have been busy every weekend and working all week. It’s been exhausting. I was feeling quite down last night and not sure why. Better today.

I will take DDog on a soggy walk soon and hopefully DH will make bacon rolls.

DD is sound asleep probably until 12. DS is playing a game.

I really need to get DS a haircut so might try to do that.

Im out tonight with work so that will be fun.

Enjoy your Saturday everyone.

Simonjt · 31/01/2026 09:55

Good morning, I think it will probably be a fairy lazy day for us today, the dog has the vets today for his boosters, he absolutely hates the vets so he will spend the rest of the day in a grump.

Our son has his first session at his new dance school today, he isn’t the most confident so he’s quite nervous, its much closer to where he plays rugby so thats going to be easier.

Have a nice Saturday all.

😂 I always read these posts to try and get motivated - but nah.

So far I'm on the thinking about the dog walk 😂

Zippedydodah · 31/01/2026 10:06

Good morning @lucysmam &all, it’s a quiet day here, the dogs have been walked and I’m having a coffee before I sort out the washing and start a new painting ( I’ve been procrastinating wildly for nearly two weeks now 🫣)
Nothing exciting happening here, we live a very quiet life but it suits me.
I quite fancy steak and chips for dinner, I’ll have a dig around in the freezer.
Wishing you lots of good luck for the house hunting @lucysmam 🤗
