Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just finishing my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot. The cats have had breakfast, and are currently running round like loons 🤣.

Dd2's up and out already - one of her English teachers is running a revision session today as they're not available to run one over half term. She was collected, by her friends, to walk up about 20 minutes ago. When she gets in, she needs to sort the explosion she's created in both her room, and dd1's 🙈.

I've got the day to myself so I'm going to nip into town for a new water bottle for at work - mine looks a bit weird in the bottom. And I've seen a top on a Tik-Tok that I want to see if I can find...probably not but we'll see. I expect I'll look like a potato in it but 🤷‍♀️.

Before that, I need to tidy round the kitchen & hang some washing that's not quite done yet. One of us will be in before the rain that's forecast, to bring it in.

This afternoon, I plan to attach another side to the steeple of the thread crochet church I'm making...then another. Then there's just the roof to make! It's only taken me almost 4 years to master the church 🙈.

No idea what's for tea yet - I'm trying my best to use everything before shopping, so possibly the remains of a couple of packets of fish fingers/fish cakes, with chips and peas.

Tonight will be hunting for a house since court paperwork arrived yesterday, packing another box, and then reading for a while before bed 💤.

What about all of you? 🙂

Just taken second cup of tea back to bed and the moment the duvet tucked round me, the dishwasher started beeping downstairs. It's an attention-seeking little sod so it won't stop until I go and press the button. Sigh.

Sun is shining here, which is highly unusual. I will appreciate it from indoors though, as work has been ridiculous this week, rounded off by an epic dentist session yesterday, so I'm feeling a bit ragged round the edges.

Plan is lots of tea, bit of knitting, playing with the cat, laundry, seeing if the teen has homework, and then a friend has offered to bring round supper.

JacknDiane · 31/01/2026 10:08

Still in bed.
Good luck with the houses @lucysmam

NorthernDramaLlama · 31/01/2026 10:16

Morning!
The postman got me out of bed at 9.30 so the doggo and I have breakfasted.
I have a quiet day of bimbling about in the house, making a slow cooker chilli and, of course, the obligatory dog walk. I’m still getting over whatever lurgy I’ve had for WEEKS now, so no hills, just a gentle trot round the local nature reserve.

CurlewKate · 31/01/2026 10:18

On my way up to “that London” for lunch and a show.

Whattheduck · 31/01/2026 10:38

Took Dd to Gregg’s for a coffee and croissant she’s now gone to teach at a dance school until lunchtime
Took the dog for a walk
Came back from dog walk then walked up to the village to pick up a prescription and some bread.Popped into one of the charity shops and picked up a per una long black cardigan (which I will wear to work) and a pair of grey jeans ( f&f ) for £1 each
Came home and changed the beds
Put a wash on
Just watching The Apprentice
Will put away washing once it’s dried
Dh is away with work
Dd is staying at her boyfriend’s tonight so only myself for tea
Going to have Falafels with hummus ,salad and butternut squash and spinach croquettes
No plans for tonight other than catching up with some programs I’ve recorded and listening to a podcast when I go to bed
Have a lovely day everyone

Tangerinesattack · 31/01/2026 10:41

Good morning all! I'm currently mid-brunch cookery - breakfast tacos. It's a giant faff but there'll be enough left over for some sort of tortilla thing tomorrow. Very chilled listening to 6Music and having a coffee whilst waiting for the tatties to roast and for DH to return from the shop so we can eat. This is the first week in a while I haven't had marking to do - feels a bit like being on holiday! Speaking of which, I'll need to get some packing done for our trip to Paris next week. I'll take DS out for a hot chocolate later and to pick up a new waterproof coat. The Paris forecast is abysmal! DH will continue to decorate the hall whilst we're away. Bit of laundry, admin and tidying this afternoon. Then I'd like a bath with a magazine. Korean chicken tray bake for dinner and maybe some jigsaw and gin. Have a lovely day, everyone.

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 31/01/2026 11:06

Good morning @lucysmam & everyone. Not long been up which is unusual for me. I was awake early for a cuppa made by DH but then dropped off again until 10.15. Lovely sunny day after yesterday‘s mini storm. Just eating brekkie whilst watching my dear oldest bun bun in the newly emerging daffs. Will give him & his missus some cabbage in a min. The dishwasher needs unloading & we have a couple of jumpers to do on a wool cycle. DD17 has emerged briefly but still in her pit! Sold another item on Vinted so I have that to package up & I’m going to take pics of a Cotton Traders cardigan with tags. Will run Henry round if I can be bothered. DF needs a couple of bits so I’ll brave Tescos as I want to get pizzas for tea. Working a late shift so that will be quick & easy. I’ll deliver DF’s shopping on my way to work. Have a good Saturday all ☀️☀️☀️

FamingolosForDays · 31/01/2026 11:18

Morning @lucysmam and all!

Sorry to hear about the house @lucysmam, I'd also hoped that it had been sorted.

I've also not long been up which makes a nice change. DC are with their dad this week and work has been absolutely all consuming this last month so my plan is to get all the house things done today so I can just chill tomorrow. I've got some shit life admin jobs to do that I need to get through so they don't get put off for another week.

I've made a posh wankers coffee, put some washing on and made a start on tidying/hoovering my bedroom. Well. I stripped the bed and then started reading this thread 🤣

Will go for a run later and then check in on my grandmother who is still quite run down from a virus she had a few weeks. Then go to my parents for a takeaway and hopefully catch up with my brother.

Tomorrow I'm hoping to be whisked off for a date by man I am currently speaking too (i have braved the apps again for the 193746353th time) but we shall see! Probably wont happen so I'll go for another run instead.

gingercat02 · 31/01/2026 11:23

Morning all. We've had a interesting weekend so far. Our shower leaked yesterday and took all the electricity out ⚡️
It's all dried out now but the shower will need resealed before we can use it. Fortunately we have another one.
So we have been up for ages but got very little done.
Now I can crack on with the washing etc, once i have finished my breakfast.

zingally · 31/01/2026 11:33

I've been battling a cold that appeared hard out of nowhere on Wednesday afternoon.
It's feeling a bit better today, but perhaps that's just because it's a weekend, and I've deliberately planned nothing!

I was at the petrol station for 8am, and Asda shortly afterwards. Pleased to notice they had daffodils in store, so I got 2 bunches of those. They are my favourite flowers, so I buy them right until the end of the season.
Popped an 80th birthday card in the post for my auntie in Cornwall, and then went into the tiny Heron Foods nearby. I wanted a couple of frozen pizzas - when I have a cold, a pizza just really hits the spot - but the selection was very limited. Came away with 2 though, so that'll do.

Nothing else planned for today. A lazy afternoon ahead, and try and kick this cold into submission.

tobermoryisthebestwomble · 31/01/2026 11:33

I've had a lazy morning, two coffees and sourdough toast brought back to bed
We've been away for a few days and DCat has missed me, so mostly stroking the cat and reading a magazine. I've put some washing on, stacked the dishwasher and wiped the counters down as we went straight out after dinner last night.

I was meant to be going out for a drinks and food thing with a large group this aft, not close friends, more acquaintances, and really not feeling it, so I've given myself permission not to go. I'm charging the car and then going to have a drive out, maybe to the sea side for a walk. Dh is planting my magnolia tree in the garden, I've been waiting for him to do it all winter, before it starts to bud.

DS is at work today, and DH is out for a work do tonight. I might order a takeaway. I may go for a swim at the gym. I need to pop for some bits that were missing on my supermarket order. I like the idea of pleasing myself

justtheotheronemrswembley · 31/01/2026 11:43

I've been on a wild goose chase this morning.

A couple of weeks ago we had a minor kitchen utensil disaster in which a plastic colander and a milk pan became irrevocably entwined. DH thought I'd switched the hob off, and he thought I had. 😂

Since then, I've been looking for a replacement milk pan - one with a pouring lip. Honestly, you'd think it would be easy, wouldn't you, but no. I have been to at least half a dozen places that sell saucepans now, Dunelm, supermarkets, B&M, Home Bargains, TK Maxx. Can I find one? No. I'd much rather buy one from an actual shop so I can test what it feels like, but I'm going to have to resort to finding one online instead.

Apart from that, there's laundry to do and some boxes of stuff to go in the loft.

We're going for a meal with friends at an Indian restaurant this evening. It's not one we've been to before and I'm really looking forward to it.

I am sitting with my legs elevated as had a knee replacement on Tuesday. The pain is horrendous. Morphine just doesn't work on me!!

HolesInTheAlbertHall · 31/01/2026 09:02

I'm going to

Read MN

Think about tidying the house

Check on MN just in case anything interesting has happened in the ten minutes I was sat thinking about what I need to do

Think about walking the dog

Check MN

Walk dog

Check MN, doom scroll, think about cleaning

Make lunch

Think about cleaning, realise time has already elapsed so I can't do an full amazing spring clean.

Check MN, doom scroll

Realise everyone is nearly home - run around the house cleaning like a madman, doing half a job but everything looks nice.

Promise myself I will do a proper clean next week- and repeat for all the Saturdays for the rest of my life .

I had to check I hadn’t wrote this. Every weekend 🤦‍♀️

Peridot1 · 31/01/2026 12:46

Good afternoon @lucysmam and everyone.

Sorry to her about the house issue @lucysmam. I hoped it had been sorted too.

@HolesInTheAlbertHall - oh yes. Sounds very familiar!

I didn’t wake up until 9 which is unusual. Have had a pretty lazy morning since. Toast for breakfast. Then a shower. Then a coffee. Then I sorted out my knicker drawer. Quite a pile to be chucked as I’ve lost weight. Kept buying smaller sizes but not getting rid of the bigger ones!

No plans for the rest of the day really. I have three posters to go into frames to go in our new gym so I’ll do that and hopefully DH will put them up today or tomorrow. And I need to order a mat and a doormat. Plus a door mat for our utility room.

Kitchen needs a bit of a tidy and vacuum and I have a few loads of laundry to fold. Have a very small pile of ironing so might do that.

Some sort of Thai chicken curry tonight for dinner and some TV. And some reading this afternoon.

gingercat02 · 31/01/2026 12:54

I assumed you had moved too @lucysmam.Hope you find somewhere nice its been a long saga.

I have just cleaned both bathrooms ready for new sealant in ours and because I wasn't prepared to use DS the family bathroom in its current state.

Luckily we have a new cleaner coming on Thursday to do a deep clean before starting a weekly visit. We parted ways with the previous one last summer and I'm as keen on housework as PP are.

DS is out tonight at yet another 18th so I had planned a nice tea (roast gammon, roast potatoes cauliflower cheese and peas) a bottle of wine and a film for me and DH, I have just been told there's football on TV at 8pm! GRRRRRR

DilemmaDelilah · 31/01/2026 13:16

@justtheotheronemrswembley I got a really nice saucepan with a lip from Tesco. It's quite big - but I'm sure they have small ones as well. Might be worth looking?

BeaAndBen · 31/01/2026 13:25

Good afternoon! Late to this thread as I thought I actually ought to actually do something first! I'm now on my coffee break.

Big tidy up and clean of the kitchen this morning as it had all got a little out of hand. Even used the air duster on the Lego displays on the windowsill, which I usually forget.

Living room next, as adult DS2 is having mates over for films and takeaway to celebrate his birthday tonight and it needs to look presentable.

Third load of washing in, two cakes in the oven - orange and almond cake for DS's birthday, banana loaf because we had some overripe bananas in the fruit bowl making me feel guilty.

rainandshine38 · 31/01/2026 13:26

Walked into Leeds city centre from north Leeds and visited the art gallery with DH. Got the bus back. 10,000 steps bagged.

Thank you for the suggestion - I went in there today and they did have milk pans, but they didn't have a pouring lip. Don't know about you, but if it ain't got a lip, it ain't a milk pan!

NorthernDramaLlama · 31/01/2026 22:24

Will I be the last person to post on today’s thread?
I’ve had my quiet bimbling about day! Dog got walked, chilli got made. I’ve cleaned the ‘corners’ between rest breaks watching Netflix. Just waiting on the washing machine to finish and then I can do the end of the dishes and go to bed!

DilemmaDelilah · 01/02/2026 05:03

@justtheotheronemrswembley looking on the Tesco website they still have a 16cm non stick Go Cook saucepan with a lip, and a lid, but that is probably too big for you? I think mine is 20cm and I use it for soups and curries mostly. One of the things I like about it is that the lid has quite a deep flange which has perforations so that you can use it to drain things or pour without lumps coming out as well.

I don't know why they don't do a smaller one - it would be useful I think

My other saucepans all have a lip and a lid with perforations, I just want a dinky thing to make custard & gravy in and to hard-boil eggs. So a lid not necessary. I have had a look on a well-known auction site, and there are loads on there so I will probably invest in one of those. Either that or wait until car boot sale season starts up again. I also want to replace the plastic colander but shops don't appear to sell them any more, presumably to cut down on plastic use, so I'll need to find one of them at a car boot sale or a charity shop anyway.
