True crime podcasts

Hoping I can get some recommendations..

I listen to a lot of true crime podcasts. Usually ones covering a particular case per episode or two.

I really enjoy true crime or interesting conspiracy documentaries.

Can anyone recommend any true crime podcasts series or one offs that cover just one case or event… like a deep dive over several episodes or one long episode?

Thanks!

Murder in America, married couple discuss a case per episode per US state.

jollyhollyday · 31/01/2026 08:58

Also the Serial Killer podcast, I’ve actually had to skip some parts as it’s very dark.

Swamphag · 31/01/2026 09:10

I can't believe no one has recommended Real with Naomi Channel. She's is very victim focused. Her deep dive on Charlene Downs is amazing.

I second The Teacher's Pet.

I recommend Women & Crime. The two hosts (Megan Sachs and Amy Schlossberg) are criminologists. So they'll cover the case but then talk about theories - like rational choice theory or control theory. It makes it more interesting than just a classic retell.

TheGoddessAthena · 31/01/2026 09:17

I think it depends what you're after - a podcast like Lady Killers by Lucy Worsley which is very good and does a story per episode, or something which does a whole series on one topic. Personally, I prefer the latter, getting really deep into a story.

Some recommendations:

Death in Ice Valley (BBC)
The Lady Vanishes (Australian)
Serial
Up and Vanished - American, several series

There are a lot from the BBC which are great, and no adverts. Some of the American ones I can't get on with at all, what is it with all the women and vocal fry.

The missing. All about people who are missing, excellent series. Input from their families, circumstances, investigation etc

rainbowunicorn22 · 31/01/2026 09:22

Murder mile is fab my fave it sounds like you are really there as the broadcaster really puts a lot of effort into it.

Fopar · 31/01/2026 09:52

Paradise - I think it's on Sounds.

@JustAnotherNameChange2026thanks for the list x

Pollyanna87 · 31/01/2026 10:45

I’m always recommending The Mysterious Case of the Gentleman of Heligoland. Just excellent.

Pollyanna87 · 31/01/2026 10:46

I also love Casefile because it’s so matter-of-fact. Not sensationalist at all.

Twynklebell · 31/01/2026 12:36

Thoroughly recommend Who Killed Emma on BBC Sounds

Fopar · 31/01/2026 12:48

I have just started listening to Casefile after the recommendations on this thread, but the droning, robotic narration is very irritating. Sounds more like AI than an actual human, Is it the same narrator for all episodes?

efeslight · 31/01/2026 13:02

Thanks for the recommendations everyone

CassandraCan · 31/01/2026 13:08

Also recommend Teacher”s Pet. Do you mind mystery or do you prefer a resolution?

I totally agree , I was about to write her , that my fave Podcast and I really love her take on them , I’ve listed to a few and they were making a joke of some of it and I just couldn’t get on board . Another one I quite like is : Seeing Red with Mark and Bethan .

SkelatorIamNot · 31/01/2026 13:20

I like crime junkie on a long car journey.

Casefile is outstanding but you either love it or hate it. The narrator is very measured and undramatic and they focus a lot on the victims ...

I[m 99% sure that Casefile is an AI narrator (the pronunciation of foreign words give it away). I can[t be doing with that, personally.

Crime and Coffee couple. I love those guys.

Yes I love them! I only just discovered them too so I’ve been bingeing like crazy. They get extra points for including the extract time to skip to the story in the details section. I don’t like banter.

If you listen to early episodes and also one where he does an interview, he sounds much more natural. He changed his voice a while ago to make himself more anonymous. It took me a while to get used to his voice. But he tells the stories so well that I powered through and now find the robotic monotone soothing 😂

Have you listened to Bone Valley? That's excellent. True Crime Conversations is an Australian one that I like, different story covered in every episode. Lines of Enquiries is an Irish one and very good too.

Taking some of the recommendations from this thread and thanks to OP for starting it.

Just finished series 1 following your post @Northsidemammy and it was great. Very good quality journalism and storytelling.

Northsidemammy · 03/02/2026 13:26

@greensalon delighted you enjoyed it. It's probably the best podcast I've ever listened to. Can't believe it hasn't been picked up yet as a documentary or even a film.

MrsPenelopeBridgerton · 03/02/2026 13:47

I love Mr Ballen. His is more like storytelling but he’s covered some fascinating cases that I’d never heard of and he goes into great detail.

BloodyHellBob · 03/02/2026 13:52

I’m currently listening to Laura Richard’s podcast “Crime Analyst”. I’m currently on episode 12 (out of hundreds!) where she’s talking about Peter Sutcliffe and the horrendous murders and attacks on women he committed. I really like that she speaks up for the victims and calls out misogyny in both the media and police forces and law. She’s hugely qualified and really knows her stuff.
