Good Morning All! What's everyone doing today?

lucysmam · 24/01/2026 09:23

I'm just drinking my first cuppa, in silence, in my kitchen spot. I woke up to both cats on the bed with me -very unusual for girl cat. They've had their breakfast & gone back up to bed, I think.

Dd1's home for her birthday tomorrow, but working today. Last race is fairly early so she should be home by tea time ish.

I'm going for a wander of the Range and B&M, with dd2. We need a new skinny cabinet for the bathroom (6.5"), and to replace the shower curtain. I'm not convinced we'll find the cabinet in either, but thought we'd start there.

When we get in, the pigsty that is my kitchen is on my radar to sort out. It's only really pots to be washed, but there are lots of them, and the table to clear of assorted stuff, but makes a massive difference to how it looks! The washing basket's full too, so we'll tackle that.

I'm not sure what we'll have for tea yet, haven't got round to looking 🤷‍♀️. It'll be followed by half making the birthday trifle dd1's requested for tomorrow.

This evening, I plan to finish my book, and maybe start the third in the series, with a glass or two of prosecco. They're absolute mindless drivel but easy to devour to get back into the habit of reading more often than pick up my phone!

What about all of you? 🙂

It's absolutely pissing down here, and I'm wrapped up in a blanket on the sofa with the cat and dog, MNing until DP appears. Then it will be a lovely breakfast, some jobs around the house, then maybe a film and a nice glass of wine. Maybe I will get a takeaway. I'm not going out anywhere today, too wet, windy and bleak out there!

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 24/01/2026 09:31

Good morning lucysmam and others. I love trifle! Sadly, being diabetic, I don't have it often and then, only in tiny amounts.

I have had two coffees and a cuppa with a slice of toast. The weather here is dull and wet, so nothing outdoors is planned. I have some tidying up to do this morning and soup to make. This afternoon my dgs are coming for a sleepover. Knowing them, they will eat continuously until bedtime and then again tomorrow morning. Fortunately I have stocked up the cupboards and the fridge. Enjoy your day

Thislittlekitten · 24/01/2026 09:33

Morning @lucysmam and Saturday gang.

Wild day here too but in town with DH while DS is at a club. Having a spoons breakfast.

Will have a wander. Few bits to do in town.

Once home we have to clean up a bit as family are coming over. Place is a state as last few days have been so busy.

Im hoping while we are out DD will take out the dog but I doubt it.

Tonight maybe burgers for tea and tasing my book.

Zippedydodah · 24/01/2026 09:34

Good morning @lucysmam , for once I remembered to look for your post earlier than I usually do!
The dogs are walked, I’m eating toast with peanut butter and having a quick coffee before an all day zoom art class. I need to get everything ready!
It’s actually dry here at the moment but rain before noon and another very wet afternoon ahead.
I really need to get back into reading a proper book rather than spending far too much time on MN, I have no excuses except cba 🙄😁

PhantomG · 24/01/2026 09:46

Morning all!

I'm just having a coffee before heading to the gym. Just for an hour although I know when I get there, I'll end up staying longer than planned! Probably because when I get back we need to sort out the sheds to decide whether to get a skip or not - an exciting day planned in our house! 🫤

We're doing DJ so no wine for me this weekend, we're just trying to decide what to buy for tea tonight. We had buttermilk chicken burgers last night so fancy something a bit healthier later!

DH fancies a trip to IKEA at some point 😳 but if we do it WILL NOT be during the day today/tomorrow so might have to be tonight. What a Saturday night, eh?! 😂

DilemmaDelilah · 24/01/2026 09:49

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone. I'm palpitatory again so unless it stops soon I'm not going to be very energetic today. The good news is that I think I have identified one of the triggers so I know to avoid that in the future.

I had planned on going to the scrap store to see if there were any useful/interesting bits for my crafting, but I will stay quietly at home instead.

Mr Dilemma has gone to pick up several loads of washing from local daughter, whose washing machine is broken, so that is going to be the focus of our activities this weekend. Luckily we did some washing of our own yesterday and the day before, as there won't be time to do any for ourselves.

I had a grocery order delivered yesterday, including the ingredients for the stir fry we're having this evening. I had put a pack of savers peppers (the cheaper ones) on the order and they didn't deliver ANY! Not even a substitution. Come on Morrisons... are you trying to tell me you didn't have any of the more expensive packs? Or any individual peppers? Or even a pack of those fancy pointed, or baby, peppers? Not good enough! Luckily I do have a green pepper in the fridge but I prefer red, orange or yellow peppers as they are sweeter. Mr Dilemma prefers green peppers so he will be happy. It does mean our stir fry is going to be extremely green.... I'm addition to the pepper we have sugar snap peas, broccoli and pak choi. The rest will be white (ish), with chicken, onion, beansprouts, water chestnuts and some cashew nuts.

Of course, if I'm still not capable of cooking this evening (standing for any length of time while I'm in AF is not possible) then the stir fry won't happen and we will have to have something prepared by Mr Dilemma. I did get fishfingers and lamb grillsteaks delivered yesterday. I like fishfingers and Mr Dilemma likes lamb, so we definitely have something easy in the freezer.

Morning @lucysmam and the Saturday gang

@lucysmam Happy Birthday to your DD, I am loving the thought of a birthday trifle.

I’ve managed to have a bath, tea and toast.

Need to get the dogs out for a quick walk before their groom.

Then I’m off to meet an old uni friend for an early dinner, there’s a group of us who have been friends since our uni days, 30 years ago!! In our brains we are all still the same 18 year olds!

Hope you all have a lovely day.

Topsy44 · 24/01/2026 09:56

Good morning Lucysmam and All

Just about to tackle cleaning some of the kitchen and then will have a shower to get ready to go and see my DM for the day.

I’ve just had an argument with my teen DD about her wearing glasses (she had an eye test on Thu and now has to wear glasses for reading) and of course being nearly 14 this understandably seems like the worst thing in the world! So, giving her a bit of space and hoping my DM might be able to gently persuade her later on today.

Kim82 · 24/01/2026 10:00

Good morning everybody.

I’ve just made my third cup of tea of the day and had some toast. It’s lovely and quiet even though dh is up and about (has another Saturday off this week which is incredibly unusual - two in a row!). He’s lovely but my god can that man talk, he doesn’t stop! He’s engrossed in something on his phone at the moment though so the house is silent apart from the washing machine.

Dd11 and dniece13 who slept over last night are both awake but still upstairs. Dd11’s acid reflux has kicked off this morning and she threw up as soon as she woke up bless her. She’s had her meds and feels fine again now thankfully.

I’ve no plans for the day really, just waiting for the Tesco delivery, I need to run the hoover round and give the bathrooms a wipe over but that’s it. I do need to nip out to buy the bits I forgot to order from Tesco - I was super tired last night when I did the order after another full on week with work and forgot a few things but never mind.

We were meant to me having lasagne for tea tonight but with DD’s reflux playing up the tomato sauce in it won’t help so we’ve switched it to shepherds pie instead which will be easier on her stomach and we’ll have the lasagne later in the week. Then this evening I’ll either carry on with Bridgerton or maybe start a new book, it depends on my mood. I might buy myself a posh soft drink whilst out today as a treat as I’m doing dry January so no wine for me.

Taytocrisps · 24/01/2026 10:01

Good morning @lucysmam. I'm having a relaxed morning. I told DD she could have the car today, as she's heading to a party after work. So a lie in for a change. I've had a nice relaxed morning so far, browsing MN.

I'm going to get breakfast shortly and then make a list of chores and work my way through them.

DCat2 is snoozing in her favourite spot on top of the armchair.

No sign of DCat1 but I'm guessing he's curled up in his cat house upstairs.

Taytocrisps · 24/01/2026 10:02

@Kim82 just read about your DD's reflux. That's tough at such an early age. My elderly Dad suffers very badly with it, so you (and your DD) have my sympathies.

HappiestSleeping · 24/01/2026 10:07

Morning all. I have no dogs today, so it is a cleaning day. I am hugely excited as I picked up one of the rubber broom from Dunelm yesterday and have already been scraping dog hair out of the rugs. It is fantastic, I don't know why it has taken this long to get one.

Need to unblock the hoover pipe as that is clogged with dog hair (hence the rubber broom).

And as it is unexpectedly dry, I am going to wash the car too.

(I board and do daycare for dogs, hence the dog hair).

BarbarianBabs · 24/01/2026 10:08

Sounds like you’ve got a busy day lined up, OP! My day looks as if it will be far less productive !

DP and I have had a late breakfast and just finishing up with another coffee ☕️

I don’t have any solid plans but trying to decide what type of bread/roll to make to go with tomorrow’s breakfast. We usually have homemade English breakfast muffins which I make a batch of, then freeze and take as we need for weekend breakfasts. But I fancy a bit of a change.

I’m also planning to spend some time practicing a hobby for some exams I’ve got coming up.

then of course dog walks in and around these things.

Hedjwitch · 24/01/2026 10:13

Still in bed with cat stretched out alongside like a furry hot water bottle. A lazy day planned until tonight when it is a Burns Supper and Ceilidh. DS is taking his Cornish girlfriend who has never " endured" one of these before,so should be fun watching her reactions.

CantThinkOfAnotherUsernane · 24/01/2026 10:18

Good morning all.
Ive got a day off work today, ive had 2 coffees and just had some bagels for breakfast.
Ive got some washing to work through and I’ve promised youngest DD a bike ride later.
The weather’s sunny here so keen to make the most of it.
DH is on his PlayStation and I’m scrolling MN.
This afternoon we’re visiting my dad, taking the dogs for a walk before back home to watch The Masked Singer with a glass of wine or two. DH is cooking us steak for tea tonight 😋
Have a great day all

Tangerinesattack · 24/01/2026 10:28

Morning all!
@lucysmam What's the book, can I ask? I'm Looking for something relaxing to read.

Quite a nice morning here so I'm having a coffee outside. Breakfast was delicious bacon and egg muffins made by DH. Yet another quiet weekend here but after having a bit of burn out last autumn, I'm really valuing this more restful pace of life. DS is feeling a bit fluey so he'll be pottering about doing some drawing and Lego I imagine. I have a few chores and some marking to do but my main focus today has to be planning for our Paris trip in 2 weeks. It's going to be fairly laid-back but it's just me and DS going, so I like to have an itinerary sorted and bookings made in advance. He just wants to eat nice food and take photos so not too difficult to accommodate!

This afternoon, DH will grab the week 's shop and we'll do a bit of tidying up together. Dinner will be something vegetarian to offset the orgy of haggis coming up, maybe butter paneer. Bit of Poirot and some knitting, maybe some jigsaw. And I've got half a bottle of wine in the fridge that won't last another day so I'd better do something about it!

Have a lovely day everyone.

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 24/01/2026 10:28

Placemarking - back in a min!

FairyGardensx · 24/01/2026 10:33

I might have a small decanter.

Bring on Monday im having a massage.

zingally · 24/01/2026 10:36

Morning all!

I'd planned to watch The Traitors final last night, but got chatting on the phone with a friend. And when I realised if I started watching on iPlayer from then, it wouldn't finish until gone 10pm, and I was already yawning!
Planned to watch it first thing, avoiding my phone and any spoilers until then.

As it happened, I was basically wide awake by 6:30. Got up, made breakfast, and had finished watching it by 8:15. Enjoyed it immensely. Very nailbiting!

Then headed out to my local Asda for just a baskets worth of bits, after having had a Tesco delivery earlier in the week. Detoured home via Waitrose to collect an Amazon parcel. Just some shampoo and a scalp massager!

Nothing else planned for today. Will probably just watch some telly, perhaps read my book. It'll be burgers in rolls for tea tonight. I've just got a pack of rolls out of the freezer, which I bought for Christmas but we didn't end up needing.

Whattheduck · 24/01/2026 10:43

Good morning! I’m going wassailing in a local (ish) orchard in south London:-)

Wassail!

NorthernDramaLlama · 24/01/2026 11:17

Morning All!
DP and I went “out out” for the first times in months last night, so I’m having a slow morning. And pretending the lemsip is for my cold and the teeny tiny hangover!
Hopefully a rain free dog walk and some meal
prep for next week this afternoon!

frozendaisy · 24/01/2026 11:17

Morning all

I have already been out with eldest and went to big shops whilst he failed his first driving theory test, he was being cocky, saying it was basically common sense and didn’t read the Highway Code - I got fed up of gently reminding him so thought fuck it life lesson - you need to revise. He passed the hazard perception bit just not the theiory.

Picked up lunch buffet bits from M&S - posh and fattening but hey ho. And a new book, a Jennifer Egan, she is a super author.

Youngster at drama practice, need to collect items, drop, collect teen, drop them both, make late afternoon brunch then out to theatre with VIP tickets later.

Not sure when we are going to do school uniform laundry, overnight?

As long as there’s enough for Monday I won’t stress about it!

Have a fabulous birthday weekend @lucysmam
Enjoy all

Giggorata · 24/01/2026 11:18

Good morning, lucysmam and all.

I'm busy creating a custom charging station with a suitable wooden bread bin, as the usual ones don't work for me, being not tall enough and too fiddly. I can't wait to get some sanity and order with all these wires!
I will have a rummage for some rub on transfers, to make it look less like a kitchen bread bin and more like a parlour item.

It's our Burns Night supper tonight at our usual HQ and I'm making Cranachan. I shopped yesterday for all the cream and raspberries.
Since the kitchen reorganisation, I am not certain where the huge trifle dish has gone, hopefully it is in one of the new cupboards above the cupboards.
(These have been one of the best things ever suggested on those design and décor YouTube channels)
Anyway, there will be haggis, neeps and tatties, including vegetarian haggis, cooked by the others. I am told these last have been more difficult to find in the shops this year, maybe because there seems to be more Burns Night celebration south of the border these days and they’ve sold out.
My friend is of the opinion that these post Christmas bleak January days really need a celebration to cheer everyone up, hence the popularity.
Certainly the case for me, as I was at the funeral yesterday of an ex colleague that everyone was very fond of, one of those standing room only occasions.
We have a piper coming as well, the men are kilted, I've got me tartan frock ready, and composed a daft comic song for afterwards, when we each do a “turn”.

Meanwhile, I discovered this week that the plasterer apparently can't plaster over the amazing damp proof medicinal compound in the boiler room, because it is “too rough”. Wtaf.
I suppose it will have to be tongue and groove then. I'm OK with it, as I quite like the look of that.

Happy Saturday to everyone.

mamaduckbone · 24/01/2026 11:20

Good morning @lucysmam and all.
I’ve been for my Saturday run and chat for the first time in a few weeks so it felt hard, and slow. Good to catch up with my running buddy though.
I've had tea and breakfast, showered, cleaned the bathroom and put a load of clothes away and that’s as far as I’ve got so far. It’s bright and sunny here which has put me in the mood for getting on top of the house a bit.
Watching ds2 play rugby this afternoon, curry for dinner, a fire and a film. Ds1 is home for the week and in tonight so it will
be nice to spend a bit of time with him.
