Good Morning All! What's everyone doing today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa, in silence, in my kitchen spot. I woke up to both cats on the bed with me -very unusual for girl cat. They've had their breakfast & gone back up to bed, I think.

Dd1's home for her birthday tomorrow, but working today. Last race is fairly early so she should be home by tea time ish.

I'm going for a wander of the Range and B&M, with dd2. We need a new skinny cabinet for the bathroom (6.5"), and to replace the shower curtain. I'm not convinced we'll find the cabinet in either, but thought we'd start there.

When we get in, the pigsty that is my kitchen is on my radar to sort out. It's only really pots to be washed, but there are lots of them, and the table to clear of assorted stuff, but makes a massive difference to how it looks! The washing basket's full too, so we'll tackle that.

I'm not sure what we'll have for tea yet, haven't got round to looking 🤷‍♀️. It'll be followed by half making the birthday trifle dd1's requested for tomorrow.

This evening, I plan to finish my book, and maybe start the third in the series, with a glass or two of prosecco. They're absolute mindless drivel but easy to devour to get back into the habit of reading more often than pick up my phone!

What about all of you? 🙂

I'm in a cafe listening to the radio because the young idiots in the next table think they can fix Iran. Bad enough, but they also think there is still a Shah as well as the Ayatollah. Rather than be rude and correct them, I've got my headphones on.

It's Birthday time here to lucysmam

2 out of 3 DC have had their birthday this week (and they aren't twins 😒)

We had a party last weekend for one of them and tomorrow I'm taking the older child and 3 friends on a shopping / lunch / cinema day out. It's exhausting having to plan, fund and have the energy for it all this time of year.

Today is a quiet one. Just back from swimming and quickly changed our library books. Got some naice bread from the posh bakery so we'll have that for lunch with scrambled eggs and avocado.

This afternoon will be homework, chores and chilling - tomorrow will be more of a fun day!!

Dinner later will be fajitas and we will watch a film before bed. If we can agree on one.

Afternoon lucysmam and to u all I’m very late today as no sleep at all last nite so went bak to bed for few hours. Nothing planned today I’ve sent husband out for the few bits we need for dinner tomorrow as think all the family coming and I’m planning a lazy day . House tidy as only 3 of us here now just a bit of washing to do . Awful day here windy and pouring with rain . Have a great and safe day all 🫶

devildeepbluesea · 24/01/2026 12:12

Hello all (not morning any more!).

DDog and I were out at 7.30, braving the wet and the wild. Then I did the food shop, came home and made tortilla chips from wrap that were on the turn, and some cornflake crispie cakes. Quick shower and dyed my hair, now I’m out with the dog again.
Rehearsal at the youth drama group I volunteer at, then maybe a quick drink in the pub - no Dry January for me, January is the very month where a drink is needed! Fajitas for tea later.

Good afternoon @lucysmam and everyone.

Late today. Been up since before 8 though. Had tea and did my puzzles, then more tea and some sourdough bread with honey for breakfast. Trying to pick fabrics for curtains and blinds so spent some time attaching samples to current ones with bull dog clips to see what they might look like. Then emptied the dishwasher and made a coffee.

Just been upstairs and sorted out a couple of drawers in my room. I had seven long sleeved tops in either black or blue and white stripes…….. Also found 3 pairs of jeans I’d forgotten I had…..

Afternoon plan is to sort out the mess in my hallway. Some things to go in new gym. Some books to sort for charity or back to phone box library in village. Get DH to sort his pile of shoes that’s been there since we got back from holiday on 6th January…… and then vacuum and dust.

We are going next door to our neighbours for dinner tonight. There will be lots of wine.

Morning (afternoon!) all. Today I've been out for coffee with a friend in the local naice High Street. I've poked about in the charity shops, looked in the estate agents windows (my favourite pastime) and bought some slices of delicious pizza and cannoli from the artisan bakery. I've also done some laundry and cleaned both bathrooms this morning before I went out. Dh and I have just eaten the delicious pizza, he's watching the football on TV and I'm going to finish my book. DS is off work today and I can hear him vacuuming upstairs. We are popping to the local pub to meet family this aft and then making a butter chicken and a lentil daal with naan bread for dinner. I've got a week off work now so looking to treat myself a bit, after a hectic few months.

Lovely day for January here, sun is out and no rain forecast though only 8 degrees.

Having smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on toast and orange juice then DH and I will resume work in the garden building 3 garden paths as asd DS walks in the garden about 4 hours a day and currently brings mud in with him. Though as DS has found a new game of sliding in mud and we are finding muddy handprints not sure the paths will achieve their aims. We currently have the old path which has big gaps in it between stones so need to finish digging those up and then we are making 3 new paths. Path 1 is almost done. We are reusing the dug up stones for path 2. DH and I are incredibly popular with our chickens and the local birds for digging holes and revealing worms. The chickens love to dig holes to sit in themselves.

Hope your DD has a lovely birthday weekend @lucysmam

Jellycatspyjamas · 24/01/2026 12:37

Wet and dull day today. I’m painting my DDs bathroom ready for the bathroom suit to be fitted next week. Part of a whole house overhaul that will see her move from her tiny box room into my old home office with an old utility turned into a small en-suite bathroom. I’ll then turn her box room into my new office, which is a much better use of space all round. I’m getting tired of house renovations though as we’ve been doing stuff since October with a break over Christmas. The house will be much more suited to life with two teenagers once it’s done but I seriously can’t be arsed.

I’m out tomorrow for a nice lunch with friends so there is light over the weekend.

Lemondessert · 24/01/2026 13:06

Sunny but chilly here just about to head out with the dog. Lay in and late breakfast. Might head to town later. I like going when I can have a quiet amble and it’s not so busy. Might treat the car to a car wash and myself a hot drink in a good cafe. I have some reading to do later for the week too. Enjoy your Saturday’s.

Afternoon folks - seem to have lost half a day! I spent a lot of time this morning trying to decide what to do about a suspicious online purchase (see separate thread on scams). Spoke to a very helpful chap in my bank fraud department. It’s all resolved but I still feel quite unsettled & the seller, who started off fine, got a bit nasty on Messenger last night which upset me.I didn’t go to bed til nearly 1am as what she wrote kept going round in my head.
Awake early this morning, despite the late night, and DH brought me a cuppa in bed before he left for work. Because I was distracted about the online shopping I just did bits & pieces, including trying out some piano music borrowed from the library & hoovering round downstairs. Two of the bunnies have been in & DH, who finished for the day at lunchtime, gave them some banana which they love. I’ve had breakfast (streaky bacon, 2 fried egg yolks & 2 slices of buttered whole meal toast) but no lunch as yet. Probably getting pizzas for tea. I’d planned to make a slow cooker beef stew with mash but couldn’t get motivated. The chuck steak’s ok til Tuesday anyway. I have a big pile of stuff to photograph & post on Vinted, including some great charity shop finds. Radio silence from DD17. We need her to tell us if she’s coming home today & if so, what train she’s catching. She’s at her GF’s, hopefully thrashing out some relationship issues. DH was going indoor cycling but is searching for a film to watch instead. We’ll probably watch one tonight as there’s sod all on tv!
Happy Birthday to your DD @lucysmam & have a good rest of your Saturday all.

Had a bit of a sorting out day.
We're skiing at HT so needed to check in, book parking, get the ski gear down and check if anyone needs anything new.
Usual load of washing on and hung up, washing up done and kitchen tidied.
DH is about to go for a longish run.
DS is out with his mates tonight.
I'm meeting my volunteer group in a local wine bar which also does amazing sharing cheese and charcuterie boards. Should be fun.

Ijwwm · 24/01/2026 15:05

A fairly quiet day here. I had my bereavement counselling yesterday, usually leaves me feeling a bit knackered the following day so I just go with the flow.

Food shopping done (M&S, Tesco Express, Aldi & Cook). Tend to do this every other week and then just a small top up shop in the in between weeks.

Just had a lovely late lunch - part-baked sourdough baguette with a bit of mayo, bacon medallions and avocado. Now having lovely cuddles with Big Cat. I think Little Cat is snoozing somewhere upstairs. She’s knackered after their usual half hour of zoomies round the house together, it sounds like a bunch of toddlers running around as they are definitely not light-footed.

Will prise BC off me shortly as I need to wash up. Then I’m going to have a mooch round the garden to make a mental note of what needs doing when it starts to warm up a bit. It looks lovely and bright out there, but it’s chilly so won’t be spending too long in the garden.

Chicken in black bean sauce and basmati rice for dinner, along with a glass or two of wine and some tv.

Good afternoon all, I meant to post earlier but I forgot.

We’ve not long landed in London for my birthday, we had a late night last night so we’re at the hotel so my husband can have a nap before we go out. We’re off to see Oh Mary at the theatre in a bit with friends, then we’re going out out, we’ve got somewhere booked for a pre theatre dinner but I can’t remember where it is.

Enjoy the rest of your saturday

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 24/01/2026 15:18

Change of dinner - Pieminister steak & ale pies with double cream mash, peas & gravy.

NimbleHiker · 24/01/2026 16:16

Good afternoon. I have done some cleaning. I have bitten the bullet and ordered a new washing machine as it couldn't get a repair man to look at my old one for over a week. I am debating whether to wash a few things by hand but the thought is making my skin crawl.

Empress13 · 24/01/2026 18:40
