New Look gave me a printed receipt instead of insisting they could only email it!

Have they had a change of heart!? Shock

Haven’t been in there for ages as I kept getting rudely told I couldn’t have a receipt they could only email it because that “was their policy.”

Nipped in today as they had a cheap pair of gloves that I urgently needed and the assistant was as nice as anything and asked if I wanted a receipt and I said “yes” fully expecting her to insist I give her my email address and she just printed it out and I went on my way.

Just wondered if it’s a fluke or if all the shops have changed.

To be fair, New Look have always given me a printed receipt if I ask for it, although the default is to ask for email address first.

Geranium1984 · 20/01/2026 16:25

Quite a few shops do this now, I always say no to emails and would like it printed. I think they want your email so they can constantly spam you.

Diegolikestheclassics · 20/01/2026 16:26

I emailed their head office about their odd 'This till doesn't print receipts" policy.

They denied it of course but gave me a code to give to store staff if it happens again.

It still happens but they just grumpily shuffle me to another till when I ask for a paper receipt.

PuppyMonkey · 20/01/2026 16:27

No, I didn’t even have to argue - I was all ready for her Grin - and she didn’t even mention emails!

I bought something in there just before Xmas and was told I could have a printed receipt, but that it was only possible if I also had an email one. So I ended up with both!

CrikeyNumpty · 20/01/2026 16:30

I had heard they tried to strong arm you into an email receipt so in the few occasions I have been in there recently I was primed for an argument. All was fine with me getting a paper copy, the last one, some guy said could I just trouble you for an email for your receipt. I said no, just a paper one please. He muttered under his breath but he gave it to me please. I was ready to be rude to him but can’t really argue with a mutter.

PuppyMonkey · 20/01/2026 16:30

Maybe it’s just my store or maybe it’s the new policy for 2026.

@TreesAtSeathat’s bunkum. Proof they are on some kind of diktat or commission to get your data.

Codyrhodesisaheel · 20/01/2026 16:31

Last time I went in they moaned at me for not giving them my email. It was a £3 key ring for fucks sake!

Yes, this has always been my experience too.

I bought a hair tie in there once, it was about £2. The girl serving me insisted on giving an email receipt, i said no thanks, I don’t even need a receipt. She tried saying she couldn’t serve me without giving me a receipt. I kept repeating that I didn’t need one.

This went back and forth until she relented and she put the transaction through, and a paper receipt appeared!!!

They are lying to get our emails so they can spam us.

PuppyMonkey · 20/01/2026 16:37

I’ve previously been given a printed receipt but the last time I went in, more than a year ago, the assistant was so rude to me about it, saying they “couldn’t do printed receipts” any more and they were insisting on emails “because of the environment”. I wouldn’t budge and she finally printed me one out but said this would be the last time she could do it. Hence me not going back in there for so long.

I wonder if it’s had an impact on their sales figures. I stopped going in because of the ordeal of having to deal with rude staff pressuring me to give them my email address. A lot of the staff were so nasty about it, there was no politeness or customer service at all.

There was one assistant who let me pay for something by card and then asked for my email address, I said no and that I didn’t need a receipt. She was really horrible and grabbed my item I’d already paid for and refused to give it to me unless I gave her my email address. Luckily I’m no wet lettuce and said she’d have to refund me as I refuse to provide my email address. She them magically produced a paper receipt and chucked the item at me with a dirty look as though I’d just murdered her Nan! That was by far the worst and it still shocks me now.

I used to buy a lot of clothes from there but it hasn’t bothered me shopping somewhere else. With the way I’ve been treated on various New Look stores, I’d be hesitant to go back even if they have changed their policy. I’ve never had any problems in other shops.

TaupeRaven · 20/01/2026 16:37

I emailed their head office about this (and I'm honestly not someone who'd normally bother - honestly everyone, including New Look, no doubt has my email address - but the attitude irked me). Next time I was in, I was asked for my email address and I said I'd prefer a paper receipt. The response was "We're trying to go paper free" and I just said I'd prefer an email receipt. I was polite and friendly but you could have cut the atmosphere with a knife!

LegoLandslide · 20/01/2026 17:45

I really like the Superdrug system where your loyalty card is linked to your email so it links through automatically. My email address is quite long and the spelling is often misheard.

I have noticed that the pressure to get receipts emailed in New Look has gone off.

Princesspollyyy · 20/01/2026 22:26

I have often wondered what they would say if you said “I don’t have an email address sorry”.

What could they do? Or if you said “Sorry, I can’t remember my email address, it’s slipped my mind completely”

IHeartJeff · 20/01/2026 22:29

I wouldn’t be annoyed about an email receipt if they didn’t bloody add me to their mailing list, which I thought was a big no no with GDPR!

ContentedAlpaca · 20/01/2026 22:32

I bought something from there just before Christmas. I said I wanted a paper receipt and felt so sorry for the staff member who said she had targets.
It's awful that they have to hassle customers like that.

I always say I don't have email. They give me a paper receipt. I am quite old though so they probably believe me (it's not true). Before that I used to make an email address up.

MakeYourOwnSunshine · 20/01/2026 22:38

I sometimes say I don't have email. Grin They know I'm lying but they do print a receipt.

Boggpeat · 20/01/2026 22:48

I was refused a paper receipt in the Reading shop. Left the shop without one with a smirking sales assistant behind the counter. Haven’t been back since. If they want to save the planet stop importing rubbish clothes.

Catcuddles2 · 20/01/2026 23:16

What I don’t understand is at no point do they make it clear that if you do give them an email, they will use it for marketing and not just the transaction. Surely that’s not right . I got spammed the same day I got the receipt and almost every day after.

Eudaimonia11 · 20/01/2026 23:17

I don’t know how they are still in business with the way their staff treat customers. New Look aren’t special, they don’t sell anything luxurious enough that you’d be desperate to shop there. Everything they sell, you can buy similar items in other shops. They’re on shaky ground treating customers so poorly.

I shop elsewhere now because I don’t appreciate the confrontation with the high school bullies they employ on the tills just to buy a jumper I could get from Primark without the shitty attitude. I imagine a lot of other people have done the same.

HollyIvie · 21/01/2026 00:07

I hate new look for this!! They said to me the other day I couldn’t exchange an item with a printed receipt! Urgh they are so unhelpful with this obsession with emailed receipts, makes me not want to shop there.

CynonEileen · 21/01/2026 00:49

New Look sales woman was insisting my 11yo give her email for a receipt. I interjected that she is a child and doesn’t have an email address, and if she did I wouldn’t want her giving it out. Lots of huffing before the paper receipt was produced.
