Small gift for 100yr old

My neighbour is 100 soon. We exchange Christmas cards, but otherwise, I don't know much about her interests. She has carers and is blind. I'm not sure if flowers would be suitable, maybe something fragrant like a reed diffuser or chocs? Any ideas appreciated up to £15.

Make her a memory box. Look up significant events that have occured over last 100 years and give a synopsis of them with an image. Add in some music too.

CarlaLemarchant · 19/01/2026 21:13

I’d probably just go for nice treats. Fancy biscuits or chocolates or a favourite tipple.

Egglio · 19/01/2026 21:14

If I get to 100, please just give me whisky 🥃 I would have been through enough shit by then

You can get potted hyacinths from M&S which are very fragrant. They also do tiny fragrant daffodils in a pot. Narcissi?
I love both.

bungobungobungo · 19/01/2026 21:17

Nice body lotion or yummy chocolates.

Heatingneedstobeontoday · 19/01/2026 21:20

When my friend was 90 I got her a very very soft throw as she liked one on watching TV.. Was literally £16 from B&M!!

Coffeeishot · 19/01/2026 21:21

Throw is a lovely idea and some biscuits maybe ?

I think that may take some time- 100 years worth of events!

Middlemarch123 · 19/01/2026 21:24

I think a nice throw and /or her favourite sweets would be lovely, and a vase of daffodils, they’re in the shops now, a hint of Spring, so uplifting. What a lovely thoughtful neighbour you are @7238SM

OneFineDay22 · 19/01/2026 21:27

I love the hyacinth and throw ideas! ❤️

hahagogomomo · 19/01/2026 21:29

Check with her carers to see if she has allergies and if not make her old school fairy cakes

explanationplease · 19/01/2026 21:30

Tiny fragrant narcissist is a lovely idea.

Tiny fragrant narcissist is a lovely idea.

What a unique idea for a present- that’ll give her a new lease of life! Plenty of narcissist around, it’s finding one that’s fragrant and tiny that’s the problem!

Rubyfw5 · 19/01/2026 21:34

@explanationplease . I know you've been a victim of autocorrect but that's hilarious 😂. Who wouldn't want a tiny fragrant narcissist?!

GoodVibesHere · 19/01/2026 21:34

I'd get some edibles - maybe shortbread biscuits, or some jam, scones & cream

teaandtoastwouldbenice · 19/01/2026 21:45

I would say a nice throw or blanket too

FizzPlease · 19/01/2026 21:45

Can she listen to audio books do you know?
I bought a book called "war babies" for my Father-in-Law for Christmas (he is 92) and he loved it. I had heard about it on Jeremy Vine (Radio 2). My FIL said he couldn't put it down.
I read it on hols and it was excellent. At 100, she would very much enjoy it, I am sure, if she could listen to it somehow.

That sounds very twee. I would hate that.

I’m a bit confused by this - OP said the neighbour is blind so maybe images aren’t the best?

OP, I agree with posters saying fragrant plants and a throw! x

I’m not sure that’s a great idea since OP doesn’t know her very well, wants a small gift, and the soon to be centenarian is blind and wouldn’t be able to see photos or text. Don’t get me wrong it’s sweet, but not appropriate for the situation.

I like others’ ideas of scented flowers or just nice biscuits

Edited

If I make it to 100, please someone buy me some edibles. 🤣

I don't think this is a good idea personally.

Okayfenokay · 19/01/2026 22:05

Hyacinth, throw or whisky, as suggested above, sound good.

billiongulls · 19/01/2026 22:07

In my experience, age takes a lot of interests away, but a taste for something sweet often remains.
