Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot, after a nice lie in with boy cat. The cats have been fed & all is quiet so I'm guessing they've gone back to bed.

I'm not sure if dd2's up yet - I did hear some movement but it's all quiet again now 🤔.

I'll pop the washer on, scoop the litter box, and wash the few pots there are shortly, then head up to get dressed. I'm off into town with dd2 to do some birthday shopping for dd1 - not entirely sure what to get her this year. She's very into music/gigs if anyone has any ideas? I also need to check whether the perfume she likes is back in stock online - Boots only stock the £70 bottle according to dd and that's most of her budget gone if I buy that.

When we get home, my dad's calling with some cat litter he picked up for me, then I'l think about tea. Maybe chicken wraps, but we do need to pick up fresh salad if we have those. Might nip to the market actually!

I do need to decide how to reply to the electrician who thought almost midnight was an ok time to text asking if they can come and do a repair on Monday - I expected to be disturbed by dd1 letting me know she was home safely in London, not someone wanting to do a repair! Not happy about that at all 😡.

This evening I think I'll have a nice long soak in the bath maybe, with one of my Christmas bath bombs and my book. Dd2 will probably do some more homework so she has less to do in the week and can spend her time revising ready for the next GCSE mocks.

What about all of you? 🙂

Morning 😀
Midnight texting is unacceptable from an electrician, what a pita 😤

Just back from a swim with dh, load of washing on and dishwasher. Dh is getting sorted now to take ds to his football match and then they’ll be out all afternoon watching our local team at an away game.

I’m undecided how I’ll spend the rest of my morning, 2 choices - either go to the gym for an hour or spend the entire morning lying under a heated blanket with my book! Then this afternoon there is a big family walk organised ending in a wine bar 😂

Will be home for a dinner of chicken and crispy bacon and avocado ciabattas and wedges. Looking forward to my Saturday, have a good one everybody.

poopoobarneymcgrew · 17/01/2026 09:49

Had a lovely lie in now having first coffee of day sitting with dogs on sofa. Raining heavily outside but still sunny, front door open so pups can nip out for a sniff. Still to make plans but probably tidying dog walk and Tesco

frozendaisy · 17/01/2026 09:50

Morning morning
just having a coffee before dropping youngster off for his morning drama session
need to get eldest up to do some a level
maths - so that will be one grumpy teenager
then pop to butcher eldest is cooking for his friend this evening apparently but not before he gets taken to the Warhammer shop to spend a shocking amount of money on as far as I can tell very little
need to do all school laundry
and tax return (exciting)

Judgejudysno1fan · 17/01/2026 09:53

Morning.

Hope you and your family are well.

Im 24 weeks pregnant now with girl number 4 as im sure ive said a thousand times @lucysmam on your previous threads. But not doing so good today.

Ive given the eldest 3 children a chore sheet as im lying on the sofa with back pain, cramping and a headache.

After my husband finishes work at lunch time, we are taking the children out for a drive, visit my mother, go to the toy shop so little madam who turned 5 yesterday can have a few more pressies with her birthday money. Maybe a mooch round the garden centre, pick up some more chicken, salad, washing up liquid and laundry gel from the supermarket on the way back. Order a takeaway and relax for the evening !

lucysmam · 17/01/2026 09:58

@TheChosenTwo my thoughts exactly - I know the job wants doing...but it could have waited until today to organise!

@Judgejudysno1fan you sound like you could do with staying tucked up and resting rather than being out and about! Take it steady this afternoon!!

Morning @lucysmam and Saturday Crew.

Im lying in bed scrolling. I’ve been woken up since 430 by DDog and both children who apparently woke up mega early. All 3 been in and out of my room talking to me or pawing at me for food/ garden wees. Well only DDog for the last one.

Im about to shower then properly walk DDog and then make some sausages on rolls.

Not much planned for today. Both DC have homework to do. I have a book to pick up at the library. Usual cleaning needs done and uniforms.

DH is out most of the day. I need to think of something for tea. Plan on watching the Agatha Christie Seven Dials Mystery on netflicks tonight.

kelsaecobbles · 17/01/2026 10:11

Morning all - I usually just read this thread , it’s quite relaxing and normal

for the birthday - loop experience earplugs to protect her hearing?

Girlintheframe · 17/01/2026 10:14

Morning

ive been up since the ungodly hour of 0530. No idea why just woke up. Had a slow start and a couple of coffees before putting a wash on. Have been out for the last 1.5 hour in the pouring rain walking the dog. Now sat in front of the fire with my 3rd (and last) coffee of the day.

Got a few admin jobs to do then off to meet friends for lunch and maybe a tiny bit of shopping.

Home to a quiet evening in front of the fire. DH doing dinner tonight so I will get my pjs on and relax.

Have a lovely Saturday

Tangerinesattack · 17/01/2026 10:15

Morning all. Quite a nice morning here so I'm going to grab a coffee and my big coat and sit outside. I'm very much not getting enough light and it's affecting my energy levels considerably. Quite a few errands and things to do today but will try to approach it in a spirit of gentleness as the first 2 weeks of the year have been pretty brutal! Might go to a board game event later with DS then I'd like to work on my jigsaw with a glass of wine. Dinner is an already made Syrian aubergine stew with flatbread and I'll griddle some halloumi to accompany it. Then a couple of episodes of The Rookie with my knitting. Have a lovely day everyone!

daffodilandtulip · 17/01/2026 10:17

Morning all!

Just got woken by a delivery, I've been poorly all week so glad I had a good sleep. Enjoying a peaceful cuppa then will walk the dog.

I finished a big craft project on my day off, which I've been doing for weeks so feel a bit lost today! Ordered my next one but it's not here yet.

Will finish my book that just reached "twist" stage, post some Vinted and make a lasagne for tea. I think it's time to light one of my nice Christmas (gift not scent) candles.

JacknDiane · 17/01/2026 10:20

Still in bed, feeling a bit fluey

ADHDFocusedLife · 17/01/2026 10:22

Morning!
That sounds like a really lovely, calm day.
You’ve got a nice balance of getting things done, spending time with dd2, and planning some well-earned self-care this evening.
Hope the birthday shopping goes well and you find something perfect for dd1 enjoy your day.

thebeautifulsky · 17/01/2026 10:22

Morning all,

A slow start here. I've just unloaded the dishwasher and wiped down the surfaces whilst I sip on a coffee. Waiting for DH to get showered then we're off to the big NEXT homeware shop to get new towels and bath mats. Someone used bleach in the bathroom and stained everything! We'll probably have a coffee and cake somewhere nice whilst we're out. Need to get fresh vegetables and something to roast for tomorrow's Sunday lunch for when the family pop over.

Hoping to get a walk up the hills today too. I'm looking forward to the lighter nights so I can get more done outside.

Homemade fish and chips for dinner tonight and a Netflix binge I think.

Hope everyone has a good day.

SeasickSusan · 17/01/2026 10:23

I am sick in bed 😒. Mumsnet and Saturday Kitchen are getting me through the boredom.

Hate being sick on weekends!

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 17/01/2026 10:24

Good morning @lucysmam& everyone - just lost another week! How can we already be over halfway through January?! Just watching Saturday kitchen & having my new go to brekkie - choc malted wheats. Soooo good! I wasn’t feeling brilliant earlier as I woke up very early with a headache & kept going hot & cold but better now. I’ve had a shower, washed & styled my hair, put a load of washing on & thrown away a load of out of date yogurts etc. We really do have to work on not wasting so much food. The remains of a small beef joint sat in the fridge since Sunday & I ended up chucking it instead of slicing the meat to go in the freezer. Also had to get rid of some spuds & an unopened bag of onions which had gone mouldy 🤮DD17 has just got back from a walk. There was sunshine & beautiful blue sky but it’s clouded over. DH is going to work for a couple of hours then will package up my Vinted items. Have to post them on Monday now. DD & I will visit DF & DM this afternoon. A colleague has recommended an AF wine from Co op so I’ll pick some up on our way back. Also need to pop to the chemist before it closes. DH is making his famous chocolate chilli for tea. We might watch The Hobbit or one of the LOTR films tonight. Have a good day folks!

Kim82 · 17/01/2026 10:25

Good morning everyone. Nice and quiet here today with just me and dh here (he has a rare Saturday off) as dd11 had a sleepover at her friend’s across the road. No idea what time she’s due home.

We’ve had a very slow morning and are both still in pjs lounging around drinking tea. We’ve put the Tesco delivery away and dh has made himself some bacon sandwiches but I didn’t want any. I feel rotten today with a headache and sore throat so I’m hoping for a quiet day doing very little.

We’re going to do a quick whizz round the house to get it clean in a bit - it’s tidy but needs dusting, hoovering and the bathrooms wiping over but it won’t take long with two of us - then dh is going to get his hair cut and visit his cousin who had an operation a couple of days ago. I plan on sprawling on the sofa either reading or re-watching Bridgerton and just loading the washer/dryer at regular intervals as we have a full week’s worth of washing to do.

Tea tonight is enchiladas and salad at dd11’s request and then dh is off to the pub with his friend. Me and dd11 will have a movie night then hopefully a nice, early night for us both.

Squirrelchops1 · 17/01/2026 10:26

I'm driving 25minutes to go to the bank as my one 2 mins away has closed down.
A bank....an actual physically existing building. I've not been into a branch for years (probably why the local one shut)!!!

OnlyOneAdda · 17/01/2026 10:48

Having a very lazy start today as have to be up & out earlyish tomorrow (though for a nice reason - spending some quality time with DD2 taking her to an event for a hobby she's really into; got tickets for her for Christmas and she's really excited! Quality 1 on 1 time rarer now she's 16 so really looking forward to it ☺️)

Have had two cups of tea in bed watching Netflix, snuggling with DCat & scrolling Mumsnet. Getting in the shower now, going to make brunch (superfood scrambled Pod rip-off - eggs, tomato, spinach, feta, chilli & pumpkin seeds with a slice of seeded sourdough toast) then going to see Hamnet at the cinema for a best friend's birthday (wouldn't be my first choice film but always enjoy spending time with these lovely friends).

Home later and making steak Fajhitas for dinner - might do them on the BBQ 🤔 (I love to BBQ)

The last 18 months have been very busy and stressful with big home renovations, GCSEs etc so very much looking forward to taking 2026 at a more leisurely pace and living in the moment.

Judellie · 17/01/2026 10:48

Everyone's doing loads of things already this morning. Swimming? I did a few yoga exercises and thought I was doing great.
Hope those not feeling too grand feel better soon.
Took DD to work and got some petrol on the way back. Decided to have a slice of toast,a banana and some of the remaining Christmas chocolates with a coffee before I do anything else but it will be housework, nothing exciting.
DH is 'working' in his model railway shed and keeps dumping loads of rubbishon the sofa - a space I try to keep free; he also keeps going off with Henry the Hoover but has just brought him back so I think I will vacuum the living room.
Every single time I clear a space, dh dumps rubbish in it. It's so frustrating.
DS is still in bed.

Aww, yes thank you. Im currently lying on the sofa and if im not feeling better by 1ish then we are not going to bother at all. But im starting to perk up a bit which is good.

ShowmetheMapletree · 17/01/2026 10:59

What a lovely thread! 😀

I had a lie in, primarily school dcs slept until 8.30am, first good sleep in awhile! It is also such a relief to not have school runs today; it's been a long week.
Lovely bean to cup coffee this morning, while dcs ate their breakfast. They're currently entertaining themselves nicely at the moment so it is proving to be relaxing so far (praying no fighting).

No elaborate plans today thank goodness. Dh will be doing some DIY, and I'll probably bake something. Need to pop to shops for a small food shop, mainly fresh things. I have hopes for a relaxing day! 🤞

Rainbow1235 · 17/01/2026 11:16

No house work to do no visitors coming.
So pjs laptop and get comfy in bed all day.

Susiesue61 · 17/01/2026 11:32

I’ve had the longest lie in after dinner out last night 😊 DH is going to the match this afternoon so going to go for a walk and then we’re going out for a few drinks later

ShipshapeShore · 17/01/2026 11:38

Having a coffee after taking DH over to football. Going to start my chores when I've finished then DD and I are having a mooch round town this afternoon. Need to start sorting out the house for our upcoming move too - it feels so overwhelming. Looking forward to The Masked Singer tonight, it's so bonkers!
