Yes, works by friends and family and the occasional piece that I've bought because I've seen it and loved it. In addition to one inherited 17th century piece that I love and remember hanging on my grandparents walls.

can relate to this .. reason started the thread.. don't think its ND is it 🤔 at moment my place looks clean & fresh with nothing on walls but I've recently fallen in love with Angela Harding's illustrations now considering whether to get just one print of hers..its nature & animals; two of my faves ❤️...and break habit of a lifetime

I have one of hers. Lovely

I’m glad you asked! We moved into our house about 5 years ago, waited 3 years so we could save up to renovate. During that three years, we put no art up: it lay stacked up in our cavernous, cold living room and the place didn’t feel like home.

Renovations finished last year. Now we have filled the place with art - including an original John Lowrie Morrison and a painting of a lady on a donkey in the front living room. My husband loves choosing the art and our designer has told us where we have spaces we still need to fill.

I love our new home.

Wallywobbles · 13/01/2026 06:13

A little bit but DH hates holes in the walls. It’s a bone of contention.

ChimpOnMyShoulder · 13/01/2026 06:43

@eclecticwalls I love your paintings and the hanging of them, we have similar taste in art I think.

Yes, my walls are covered in paintings. Some inherited, some from auction houses or exhibitions. Some originals, some prints. They absolutely bring me joy and make my house my home.

Natsku · 13/01/2026 06:49

Lots! Some prints and some originals that I picked up cheap in charity shops and flea markets. And two pieces I commissioned, one of my children and one of OH and DS.
I love looking at the art on my walls, gives me so much pleasure. I also have some ornamental wall rugs hanging up. I'd have more art up if I had room to hang any more!

pics.

Your lodger's pictures are absolutely brilliant - I'd love to have some of them on my walls!

RememberBeKindWithKaren · 13/01/2026 07:46

Yes a framed print I picked up at a car boot sale a few years back..I love it ..A sunny Mediterranean scene. Probably the original was painted a couple hundred years ago so the people are in old fashioned clothes. There's a little boy half way up a ladder and I love it because it's so against the Health and Safety terms of today. It's on our bedroom wall so I wake up and stare at it.. Now

oneoneone · 13/01/2026 08:41

Yes, we have lots. It's a mix of auction, galleries, bought while we were travelling, including two from South Africa, and some bought at studios with an art consultant I've used.

@mondaytosunday That's so funny - we also have, in our living room, a very large abstract landscape by a (somewhat known) Scottish artist, and two Aboriginal paintings, although ours are upstairs. I bought the Scottish one at auction at Lyon & Turnbull and consider it one of my best purchases ever.

macshoto · 13/01/2026 08:46

Yes, such that we have no walls (apart from the kitchen) without art on them. Mostly prints, but also a small number of originals.

We were lucky enough to collect a number while we lived in Japan.

itsthetea · 13/01/2026 08:49

Yes - we have prints all over

yes over time you see them less - I think after about 20 years we move them around or even replace them

although we have one that was in my parents home and one that was in DH parents home and no way would we move them out

Arraminta · 13/01/2026 10:39

Yes, lots. A couple by my great uncle who was a professional artist. A couple by DD1 who did a Fine Art degree. Lots of framed prints I've picked up in charity shops and on Marketplace. I also collect old mirrors in ornate gold frames and have them in every room.

Horrace · 13/01/2026 10:44

Yes, we tend to buy on our hols or from antique fairs. Much nicer. We are now trying to replace all our prints with originals, at least downstairs.
Some of my own work too but that's very much hidden in corners as Im pretty rubbish.
But I tend to look at the originals all day long and keep seeing new detail.

Chemenger · 13/01/2026 10:50

We have quite a lot. We live in a village that has a huge art festival every year. We have a couple of artists exhibiting in our house for that. We usually buy something in the festival every year. I also have a big painting I bought from a local gallery. It’s a seascape that I absolutely fell in love with. I look at it every day and still find new things in it. It was very expensive but worth every penny.

We have a few bits by artists that we love and some framed prints or postcards.

If we didn’t love them then we wouldn’t have them up.
I have two favourites. Both very different styles but both places that we love and both by (different) artists that we know well.

@eclecticwalls I love your style.

CalzoneOnLegs · 13/01/2026 11:12

@bumblebee1000 they are stunning

CMOTDibbler · 13/01/2026 12:00

Yes, lots. Mostly engraving, etchings, wood engraving and linocut but also some mixed media and original paintings. We also have a completely bonkers original sculpture in the garden which we bought this year having fallen in love with it at an exhibition

MirrorMirror1247 · 13/01/2026 12:34

I've got a couple of Steven Brown prints, giraffes and elephants. I love them because they're so colourful! I also have a painting of my grandparents' dog which was done for them as a golden wedding anniversary present, one of my cousins suggested I take it after they'd both died.

ToadRage · 13/01/2026 12:51

Most of what we have are family photos and my cross-stitch pieces. My husband has a big framed vintage Guinness calendar page that was a 21st birthday present. In Barcelona we bought a painting of the cathedral that is on our bedroom wall and my husband also got a print of Kevin Sinfield and Rob Burrow which is up in our study. One Christmas he bought me a star chart of the night sky over Plymouth on the night we got together.

Iloveeverycat · 13/01/2026 12:56

Lots of Gary Hodges. Wildlife artist. Love his drawings.

itsmeafterall · 13/01/2026 13:20

Yes. A beautiful painting from a wonderful artist. Bought about 3 years ago. I love it so much. It makes me smile every day.

It was expensive but worth every penny.

MrsKeats · 13/01/2026 13:22

Yes everywhere including some originals. Absolutely love art.

We have a copy of "Prosperine" by Rossetti, a copy of an antique map of our area from the 1700s, plus a print of some dolphins at sunset and a copy of the Blaue World map throughout the house. Plus family pics (naturally 😀)

Sidebeforeself · 13/01/2026 13:34

Lots! I’d have more but I dont like to see walls covered in them. The pictures need space to “shine” in my opinion. They include:

A painting by my dear late Dad
Prints of my home town
A commissioned watercolour
A commissioned glass sculpture
Framed gig posters
Geological maps
