Yes..by an artist who was a friend of my mum's. Spent a fair bit of time with her and her family etc. Also some art by another artist that has a 'theme' we love. They give me great joy when I walk past them and sometimes I stop and stare at them for a while!

landlordhell · 12/01/2026 21:25

Yeah, nothing expensive. Some junk shop/ car boot finds and some painted by my MIL and DSis, a couple of my own watercolours. If I like the colours I will buy. Unfortunately most original art in shops is ££££.

ThePerfectWeekend · 12/01/2026 21:28

Yes, all original from pieces bought at student art shows, inherited Victorian oil paintings, to a huge black and white photograph (10ft x 8ft) taken by a renowned photographer of a scene from a play on opening night of a world famous theatre (after family and pets it's my favourite part of my home). It was a gift over thirty years ago). It's a great talking point with visitors, partly because of its size and age but also because it has several famous actors in the scene.
I never get bored of any of it. I've only ever bought or hung pieces I loved. I know some have significantly increased in value, but so far I've never sold anything and won't until maybe if I downsize one day.

Starlightsprite · 12/01/2026 21:29

Please share photos everyone! Massively interested in this topic.

ThatWasMyLastFatFreeFrush · 12/01/2026 21:29

I had a big oil painting of Porthmeor beach once, and it got lost when I moved house. I'm still furious and it was over ten years ago.

EmpressaurusKitty · 12/01/2026 21:31

Yes, almost all either by or of people I know, & every one with a story. Also a spreading collection of photos on one wall.

billiongulls · 12/01/2026 21:32

Loads and loads. I buy a lot in second hand shops, markets etc. Occasionally treat myself to a piece. Just love it. Never get bored with it. My tastes do change over the long haul, sometimes I find I no longer love a piece after 20 years! But that's only sometimes.

RaininSummer · 12/01/2026 21:33

Yes. A mix of my own textile art and prints from others.

GreenMarigold · 12/01/2026 21:33

I have several original paintings from local artists that I particularly love, plus a few prints. I like to support them.

I also have an oil painting by one of my great grandfathers. I’d not have chosen it but it goes quite well in the dining room and I like the family connection.

It takes me years to find the right picture for a space as I have a very specific idea of what I want and a lot of searching to find it! I have quite a few generic placeholder pieces just to fill the space until I come across the right thing.

billiongulls · 12/01/2026 21:34

Also some by friends.

Whyherewego · 12/01/2026 21:34

Yes loads ! I probsbly buy something once a year, ranging from a £100 to the most expensive was £6k. And they all give me a lot of pleasure to see every day

Branster · 12/01/2026 21:35

Yes original paintings, not many actually because I am very fussy when it comes to art or decorative items and each was a considered purchase over a long period of time, both me and DH truly love them. Even each frame took a long time to decide on. 2 are absolutely huge, a bit of a worry when moving house. Sometimes I don't notice any of these pieces but sometimes I am mesmerised by an entire picture or certain details.
I do have some old smaller paintings in my dressing room and these are very sentimental to me personally and inherited from various members of my family. I find these a comfort even if not all are particularly great as paintings. To me, they tell a story.

RosesAndHellebores · 12/01/2026 21:36

Yes. Some by quite well known artists, some by local artists or people we know. I like modern / DH likes traditional. Some signed prints that I liked at the time but are probably worth £100 tops.

Curlyshabtree · 12/01/2026 21:38

I have an original silk screen print of a place important to me, some beautiful vintage embroidery, a print by a local artist, some watercolours by a Mongolian artist and some pen and ink originals by an Indonesian artists. Quite the mish mash, much like my decor!

snowgirl1 · 12/01/2026 21:40

Yes, I bought a screenprint in my 20s with my first ever bonus and a few years later bought a matching print. Since then, I've bought a small number of oil paintings. My tastes do change but I don't regret buying any of them and find bare walls really characterless. I really want a painting by Sarah Vertigan.

HetTup · 12/01/2026 21:42

I have mainly Art from family members and kids love them all. A few cat pictures by Bob Mortimer as well (for charidee).

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 12/01/2026 21:44

I have a couple of large abstract paintings by a Bristol artist but would love more.
I'd be fine if I didn't have a DH who likes to have a say in what I put up.
Where do most people buy reasonably priced art? Other than the gallery I go to in Bristol when visiting my DS I don't know where to start looking

mynameiscalypso · 12/01/2026 21:44

I have a mix of prints (mainly Matisse, but also some Dufy prints) and original pieces. Most of the original pieces are from Art Finder; there are a few artists I’ve grown to like over the years and will always look out for their new pieces.

Astrabees · 12/01/2026 21:57

We have lots of art on our walls. It includes a couple of my own drawings and paintings, one by my son plus a limo print he made. I have three painted for me by an old boyfriend who was very talented and three by a friend’s mother, she was a professional artist. I also have a few prints and exhibition posters, two little oil paintings from a sale and some etchings I found in an antique shop. I wouldn’t buy IKEA prints , I like a nice mixture.

CarrieMoonbeams · 12/01/2026 21:57

Absolutely loads here too. Some prints of landmarks that are special to us, several commissioned ones, many limited edition prints (some pretty valuable now I believe), several original landscapes that my dad bought and we inherited, some framed notecards and a large framed wallpaper sample!

I love them all.

Womaninhouse17 · 12/01/2026 22:01

I have originals on my walls - painted by me. I'm not a professional but I'm quite good and I'm proud of some of my work. I do think you have to change whatever artwork you've got on your walls from time to time. If it's been hanging in the same place for a long time, you stop seeing it.

ForPearlViper · 12/01/2026 22:29

I like watercolour landscapes and have rather a lot. Minor but 'known' artists. Some better. It is astounding what you can find in charity shops if you keep you keep your eyes open.

Ineffable23 · 12/01/2026 22:34

I've got paintings on every wall I think. A few prints, some "arty" type photos from years ago, and then quite a quantum of paintings. But I have a relative who paints as a hobby and so a) I get plenty donated here and connected to that b) my house is quite low on paintings in comparison to their house. I don't think there's any more wall in their house, so b might dictate a.

Teddleshon1 · 12/01/2026 22:41

Yes, spent our 20s going to auctions, sales and student shows. Now have a pretty good collection with a few pieces worth serious money.

It has given us huge pleasure over the years and continues to do so every day. We’ve never bought a car brand new etc and I don’t have a lot of jewellery as always prefer to invest in art and our house.
