Because in my mind I am still 37, it hasn't occurred to me that actually, this year, there is a load of free shit I can get when I'm 60!

Pls inform me of what I can benefit from. Buses? Trains?

Free bus pass in Yorkshire! I applied for my husbands for him. He's always trotting off into town on the bus now! Leeds is horrendous for parking prices.

Wait, what. Free HRT? I have only been vaguely thinking about HRT. That is so cool.

A lot of GP's won't give to over 60's as increase of serious side-effects. Typical eh? As soon as it's free!
Happy 37th b'day, hope you celebrate with style.

Let’s do it! A brilliant year to be born. I don’t know, but something special happened xx

Can you lovely happy to be 60 folk have a word with my better half please? He's 60 tomorrow and my god, he's miserable about it. Says no age to celebrate, he's nearly dead etc etc. Been banned from any fun banners or jokes about his age.

Good job I've bought him 'happy 70th birthday' cake decorations for tomorrow. To a, honour his wish of no 60th, and to remind him it could be worse...

ZenNudist · 09/01/2026 23:39

I thought you meant what you could get In terms of gifts to self (jewellery, holidays, luxury items). Some ideas:

When I turned 40 I got a city break to Brussels (wanted a carribean cruise to St Lucia but it was the wrong time of year) and a new BMW.

My friend targeted a cartier watch for her 40th.

A colleague went to Borneo to celebrate (commiserate in their eyes) turning 30. I did Paris at 30.

When I turn 50 I'm going to Japan and buying a BMW x5 or equivalent.

At 40 my friend treated all his friends to dinner at a famous Michelin star restaurant. Same friend at 50 celebrated with a trip to Prague.

Something like that? Not free but a good excuse to treat yourself.

Strollingby · 09/01/2026 23:41

Surprised there are so many 1966 babies on here. ...I only have a few weeks left of 59 (think my London 60+ travel card will save me about £500 a year).

Timeforacuppanow · 09/01/2026 23:43

I was delighted to get free prescriptions and eye tests - not quite as much as when the young lad in Iceland gave me pensioners’ discount without asking when I was still 59🤣www.lancs.live/news/cost-of-living/8-freebies-discounts-over-60s-31580820

RetiredGranny · 09/01/2026 23:43

Some Ten Pin Bowling alleys do senior sessions at a discount, got a free cup of tea thrown in once. IHG Hotels do a senior discount but not until you are 62.

TheFireHorse · 09/01/2026 23:47

Firehorses Rock! This is our year!!

Awww! Happy __th birthday @Happyjoe ’s DH!

Join club ‘66, we are all feeling our best 37!

Davros · 09/01/2026 23:52

U3A. Although I think you might be able to join as young as 55, I need to check

Dillydollydingdong · 09/01/2026 23:54

I get a free bus pass. Ask and see if you could qualify.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/01/2026 00:06

I’ve just turned 65, maybe something else kicks in now?
I already had free prescriptions and eye checkups by 60 courtesy of being on thyroxine and DF having had glaucoma so apart from the rail card there wasn’t much then.

HayceeDeeCee · 10/01/2026 00:19

I'm 60 in 3 weeks, already getting free prescriptions (Fuck You Cancer) and also in Hampshire like you OP. Will look into the railcard but not sure i'd use it often enough.
Not enough in my private pension to take my lump sum so gonna carry on working and contributing until I can't but by god it's getting harder every month.

SlowSlinkie · 10/01/2026 00:20

Ask in shops and attractions if they do an over 60s discount. The Tower of London does and The Jack the Ripper museum does . Just ask whenever you shop or use a tourist attraction. If you don’t ask you don’t get !

LittleGreenDragons · 10/01/2026 01:20

Free prescriptions and free eye test only. My lovely council has upped the free bus pass and linked it to state pension age so if the government raises it again then so does the council. Cheapskates 😤

TamarindCottage · 09/01/2026 21:57

Well not quite free (soz) but you can buy an annual HRT PPC for a set price (around £19.80).

I get my HRT free - but I need my “rocket fuel”, 😉. so I’d pay if I had to.

DonewhatIcando · 10/01/2026 06:49

@WinterGardeningI'm a couple of months off 60.
Went to the opticians yesterday and they said I was entitled to something free when I hit 60 but I didn't catch what it was as I laughingly shushed her as I didn't want the whole shop to hear that I'm nearly 60!
They also phoned me the day before to ask if I could manage the stairs at their shop, that made me feel old!
Im quite looking forward to finding out what I'm getting for free once I get over the shock of nearly £500 for a pair of glasses.
BTW I still feel like I'm in my 20's but just a little smarter 😁

TamarindCottage · 09/01/2026 21:25

You should already be receiving HRT free

Not if you are under 60 and healthy and live in England….

WideOpenBeaches · 10/01/2026 06:58

Hello 👋🏻

Can I join the ’66 Club? Got to wait until the summer but then I’m in.

Haven’t got round to thinking about any discounts yet as obviously I’m still 21. in my head.

cobrakaieaglefang · 10/01/2026 07:04

<waves> I too am boarding the '60s' ship...reading with horror interest.
Oh and I call HRT, my 'stay out of jail tablets' , they prevent me from committing murder!

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 10/01/2026 07:25

Blimey all these fantastic things for birthdays ending in a zero! For my 60th I went to the theatre, had Chinese delivered for tea & chose a ring costing around £40 from DH & it was all lovely. Couldn’t really afford a holiday or even a mini break & definitely didn’t have the money for a new car!

jasminocereusbritannicus · 10/01/2026 07:30

I’m 61… you might get discounts as a ‘senior’ on certain admissions. I went to London and was classed as a senior on a river cruise which was a plus!… or slightly miffing as no-one questioned if I was old enough or asked to see any proof!!!!🤭

friedaddedchilli · 10/01/2026 07:58

Arran2024 · 09/01/2026 21:21

60s here. You get a discount on National Trust membership! Might apply to other memberships too - always check.

You can get cheap tickets and tea and biscuits at the Odeon at certain times.

I live in London so have the freedom pass which I use all the time.

Edited

NT discount only applies if you’ve already been a member for three consecutive years. :(

MadamCholetsbonnet · 10/01/2026 08:03

I’m so excited any time I get £2 off entry anywhere because I’m “senior”

MiddleAgedDread · 10/01/2026 08:04

B&Q used to do a pensioners discount day, I think it was Mondays but not sure if they still do
