Most ridiculous complaint.

I got a supermarket delivery and it arrived about 10 mins before the time slot. I was happy with this but joked with the driver about it being early.

He said some people do make genuine complaint if he is early.

At one house he knocked on the door, the door was opened and he was told to come back at the allotted time. It was 2 mins.

A few years ago I was in a supermarket and heard a customer complaining loudly to a member of staff that there were not any ripe grapes .
Pointing at a huge crate of green grapes the member of staff said they are ripe.
The customer was spitting feathers saying no they are not , they are not ripe until they have turned red .
Staff tried to explain that the red ones were a different type of grape but the customer wouldn't have it.
I tried to help but was told to mind my own business.
I often wonder if she thought green apples were unripe red ones too.

I worked in A&E years ago. A patient arrested, resus trolley, CPR, clear, shock etc etc. Sadly the patient didn't survive- RIP.

The beds were divided by curtains, so the family in the next bay could clearly hear what had happened. I went around afterwards to apologise because the resus trolley had bumped into the relatives chair and for the commotion.

The relative said 'This is outrageous, we've been here over an hour and not one person has offered us a cup of tea!!!'

I think I would of thrown the whole tea urn at them !

I worked as an usherette selling ice cream from a box round my neck.

Some made a complaint about me because when he threw his empty ice cream carbon in my box I very nicely pointed him in the direction of the bin next to me. He said "you are here to serve me".

@Navybluecoat I'm so sorry you were subjected to all of that. Just horrific

I used to work in sales and would greet customers and ask how their day is going. One woman asked me why I wanted to know that so I said I was just making conversation. A little while later she returned asking for my name as she was reporting me to head office for invading her privacy with that question. She did actually report me too 😂😂

Oh my god that really takes the biscuit!! 😆

Years ago I worked as cabin crew, and we had some corkers. Memorable ones include:

• “Haven’t you got any cow’s milk? What the hell kind of an animal is an UHT anyway?”

• “This clotted cream with the cream tea has made my coffee go lumpy”

• “De-icing the plane is causing too much delay - I demand to speak to the captain”

• On an unscheduled stop in Montevideo, late at night, due to a sudden fire at the destination airport, all the passengers were being put up in hotels overnight. One woman refused to get off the aircraft saying she couldn’t stay the night in Uruguay because she was “from a good family.”

That last one is great

Like Hyacinth!

Many, many from when I worked in a school! The most memorable was a parent complaining that the roads we drove along to get to a museum for a trip were too windy and made her DD feel sick. We had to gently explain to her that we hadn't created the roads.

My first job was on customer services at Marks and Spencer. A woman bought a jumper back complaining the sleeves were a different length. She spread it out on the counter and said “this sleeve has 421 rows of stitches and this one has 422”. She was serious, too.

I’m a teacher and a parent once rang up to have a go at me because his son had been hit by a child the day before and I “hadn’t done anything about it.” I asked for more information as his son hadn’t mentioned this at all the day before, I was unaware. He said “you know what he’s like, he doesn’t want to cause a fuss so he didn’t tell an adult.” I calmly explained that his was why I hadn’t done anything about it, because I didn’t know. I asked him to tell me more so I could deal with it appropriately and according to behaviour policy. He said his son didn’t want to say who had hit him as he didn’t want to be a grass. I understand why a parent may be upset over this, but to ring me aggressively because I’ve not done anything about it, when he knew his son hadn’t reported it…the mind boggles.

Former M&S employee here too . Every single year on the 27th of December we would get four or five turkey carcasses slammed down in front of us with the words “ you ruined my Christmas with this awful turkey “ they’d always eaten it all and it would just be a bag of bones that they’d rage at us for ten minutes about . We had to refund their turkey and give them a bottle of wine for their trauma.

I had Morrisons turning up 2-3 hours early!

Once, as the driver could see I was in, he started throwing stones over the garden wall to 'alert me' as my gate was locked and he could not access.

I explained I was working on a job requiring me to be at my screen and take not a single second away without authorisation, and a shopping delivery did not warrant me destroying my second career.

longtompot · 09/01/2026 16:49

I don't mind the food delivery driver being early. I do mind if they are off with me as I haven't come to the door immediately. I was in the bathroom last week when mine turned up 20 minutes early. My dh saw him on our camera and he had barely knocked on the front door before he was on his phone, I assume phoning the store, before then phoning me. I said I'd be there asap but I wasn't expecting him for at least 20 mins and he was very short and abrupt with me.
I've also had them turn up over an hour early! That one I did ask to come back as I wasn't in and was walking my dog.

I used to work at a grade 1* listed tourist attraction with a large outside area. I once had a visitor complain and want a refund because she was too cold outside and there was no heating in the ruin. Unfortunately, radiators and central heating did not exist in the 13th century. Also as the attraction is a ruin with no roof and most of the walls missing and therefore exposed to the air, we can't heat it.

It was winter and something like 3 degrees. Of course it was cold.

I once had an Asda order coming early and they rang me. I said feel free to drop in doorstep but I was actually stuck in traffic and would only only just make the allotted time.

The offered to do other drop offs first and come back but said it may be after allotted time.

I said I’d work around wha worked best for them. I’d never think to complain!

DeftGoldHedgehog · 09/01/2026 17:05

I've had Tesco come early and it's annoying if I've just sat down and am enjoying a cup of tea but I don't complain at them.

I don't think it is that ridiculous to be put out by an early deilvery. If my shop arrives 10 minutes early I am likely to be in the shower.

I work on the cigarette counter. A lady wanted to buy some tobacco as a thank you for her gardener, all good. Passed her over the packet, which had the usual warnings and graphic pictures on it. She gave it back and asked me to find a packet with nicer pictures on it! I actually repeated to her "you want nice pictures? " and she said yes, she did!

Worked in a leisure centre...
woman cancelled her membership because children were allowed in the pool (it was like a regular, family facility)
and a short guy cancelled his membership when only top lockers were available.

ToadRage · 09/01/2026 17:11

Wirked in an M&S food shop. I had a lady who tried to return 3 packs out of a 6 pack of crisps simply because she wouldn't be able to eat them all before the use by date and a lady once tried to return a roll-on deodorant cos she didn't like the smell. I was always gobsmacked when someone brought in an empty package requesting a refund because they didnt like it.

Went on holiday many years ago and husband wasn't sleeping well the first couple of nights which turns him into a stroppy toddler. He actually went to reception on the second morning and complained that "the birds tweeted too loudly in the morning". I don't know what he expected the staff to do about it. Perhaps turn down the volume on the head birdmaker's control system or something.

Once he had a good night's sleep he cheered up and admitted he had been ridiculous.

I had something similar - sold a pack of cigarettes and she handed it back and asked if she could have one with a 'not so graphic' picture on!

I did change it, but was torn - those graphic pictures must be working too well....I know I used to hate looking at them as I sold the packs.

During covid, I worked in customer service for a supermarket, and because I'd worked there a long time I was helping out with the escalated complaints, most of them were quite petty. One day a customer complained that he didn't get a lettuce with his delivery. If I remember correctly it was out of stock. He kept asking me how he was supposed to make a salad without a lettuce. I eventually lost patience with him and told him I wasn't there to give him salad recipes. He told me I had no heart. I'd long run out of fucks to give and soon after that I told management I wasn't dealing with escalations any more. Now much happier working elsewhere!

JobMatch3000 · 09/01/2026 17:18

I've told this one on here before:

I used to work for a local authority and received a complaint that a customer had been held up because one of our bin men had stopped to re-tie a loose shoelace!

Apparently management should have checked his laces were tied properly before he left the depot.

I am a solicitor, but not working at the moment.

I once had a client write me an e-mail 10 pm Sunday night. I replied just after 9 am Monday morning and she made a formal complaint saying it was outrageous i had taken 11 hours to reply to her e-mail.

Ironically i had been working on her file over the weekend and had e-mailed her something on the Sunday morning. My boss said she clearly thought Sunday all hours and overnight was my normal working practice and i had created an expectation. I still think expecting a reply overnight was out of order.
