If you have a jacuzzi/whirlpool bath, do you actually use it?

Hello from the bath! 🦆

Moved into a house a couple of years ago that was designed and built by the previous owners. They were obvious bath people because the main bathroom has a bath that could easily accommodate four people, and the en-suite has a two-person jacuzzi-type bath complete with a tv and colour-changing lights*.

I’ve used it once before and I fancied a bath tonight so I’m in it again. I really just wanted a bath but didn’t fancy filling the massive one in the family bathroom so I’ve opted for the jacuzzi.

I just don’t get the appeal. I had the jets on but it’s just like sensation overload between the noise and the bubbles (and that’s without the flashing disco LEDs!).

If you have one of these, do you love it or is it one of these “sounds good in theory but not reality” things?

(*and before anyone says anything, it’s a really lovely house and quite tasteful! It’s just the en-suite bath that’s so boujie).

(Aaaand… I know baths aren’t great for the environment so I normally shower. Think this is my first bath since maybe winter 2024- just really fancied a soak).

Watch some videos of the jets being cleaned and enjoy never using it again.

I meant to say this! They’ve been cleaned! That was my first concern.

We also moved into a house with a massive bougie jacuzzi bath and ripped it out as soon as we could afford to 🤣
Apart from anything else it had not been cleaned properly for years and no matter what I tried black crap shot out of the jets whenever they were turned on. It took up so much room we managed to get a walk in shower and a normal bath in it’s place!

Are you talking about an outside one?
Because I had an awful experience where we fell out with an ex-neighbour and they put a live carp in it and I didn't see and got in it and had to be treated for shock

Why would my en-suite be outside?

Sorry I thought you were talking about a hot tub

DoSomeWork · 04/01/2026 21:57

We have one in the house we moved to and it's horrible, I can't wait to rip it out. The gunk from the pipes is gross, DH thinks "it's not that bad" and so I'm the mean one for not letting the kids have a nice bath (in germ soup).

What

Please ignore, I was referring to a hot tub not a jacuzzi

So much to unpick here.

ClaudiasDreadfulEyeliner · 04/01/2026 22:08

@CalmShaker That's incredibly funny to read. If this is real, and you are traumatised by the event, I would advise you to refrain from telling anyone, ever. Even if the person you tell manages to keep a straight face in the moment, I can guarantee they will wet themselves laughing on the way home/randomly wake up in hysterics remembering what you told them.

We have one (it was here when we moved in) and no, we never use it.

TheKateColumbo · 04/01/2026 22:15

In answer to the OP we had one when we moved into our old house, when we turned it on loads of pubes etc came out of the jets. It’s was really off putting we never used the jets again and changed the bath ASAP.
We do however use our hot tub weekly (and have never put a fish in it!)

LeafyMcLeafFace · 04/01/2026 22:18

We have one but it’s quite a big bath and the jets don’t reach me. I haven’t used them in years, it also has lights which don’t get used either.

i should say we inherited them, we didn’t choose to have them.

ItsInYouFaceButYouCantGrabIt · 04/01/2026 22:18

Still traumatised from when we were bathing the kids at a relatives house and as a treat they turned on the whirlpool jets and sprayed my children with mould. It would not stop spraying, it was making a horrible grinding noise as well and everyone/thing in the bathroom got soaked and covered in this mouldy juice as the kids tried to get away from it asap but were slippery and covered in green slime.

I'm sorry but what the fuck 😂 hahahaha. Did it just scare you or something? My apologies if you mean toxic shock or something but the idea of being spooked by a fish in your hot tub is fucking hysterical.

I'm glad it's not just me. If they're being sincere then they need to start telling that story differently because it's one of the funniest things I've read in a while.

tartyflette · 04/01/2026 22:28

We had one and it was a bugger to clean. You'd turn it on and the water in the jets shot out and absolutely stank unless you had emptied them scrupulously after every bath (whether you'd actually had the jets going or not.)
We got rid.

Do I do have an (outdoor!) pond full of koi so I could technically reenact this if you’d like to fill us in on the full story?

I had a large bath in my last house and we did use it (fitted 2) but I chose not to have jets as cleaning them are a pain. Current house (new build) hasn’t got enough room alas

IHeartJeff · 04/01/2026 22:47

I use mine allllll the time. So much so I would consider switching our en-suite walk in shower to a spa bath and over the bath shower so I don’t have to walk the extra 10 steps to the main bathroom. I even love washing the jets out.

1dayatatime · 04/01/2026 22:58

So many years ago I moved into a new house which had a water jet / jacuzzi bath.

So here's me all excited, I've got the candles lit, bubble bath, a glass of wine and a good book and it's going to be bliss.

Then I get in, relax and press the jet button. First off I nearly jumped out of my skin with the noise which was more like a jet taking off than a jet bath. Then to my horror I saw that the bath and me was covered in the black gunk from the festering pipes.

I jumped straight out of the bath and into the shower to scrub myself clean.

Shortly after that it was removed and replaced with a normal bath

greengreengrass3 · 04/01/2026 23:07

We had one fitted about 12 months ago and I love it, use it a couple of times a week.

I have no issues cleaning it either, I’ve never had anything nasty come out of the jets.
