If you have a jacuzzi/whirlpool bath, do you actually use it?

Hello from the bath! 🦆

Moved into a house a couple of years ago that was designed and built by the previous owners. They were obvious bath people because the main bathroom has a bath that could easily accommodate four people, and the en-suite has a two-person jacuzzi-type bath complete with a tv and colour-changing lights*.

I’ve used it once before and I fancied a bath tonight so I’m in it again. I really just wanted a bath but didn’t fancy filling the massive one in the family bathroom so I’ve opted for the jacuzzi.

I just don’t get the appeal. I had the jets on but it’s just like sensation overload between the noise and the bubbles (and that’s without the flashing disco LEDs!).

If you have one of these, do you love it or is it one of these “sounds good in theory but not reality” things?

(*and before anyone says anything, it’s a really lovely house and quite tasteful! It’s just the en-suite bath that’s so boujie).

(Aaaand… I know baths aren’t great for the environment so I normally shower. Think this is my first bath since maybe winter 2024- just really fancied a soak).

Sorry but ROFL here 🤣 best thread I’ve read in years!

3flyingducksarrive · 05/01/2026 04:11

I use ours sometimes. I clean the jets with the stuff in a bottle and it's never been an issue. We live in humidity central so I would have expected some mould.

One time when I had used it for a while, ants had set up house in the pipes. That was lovely.

StarlightLady · 05/01/2026 08:50

I have a “bath sized” one which l use regularly, clean the whole system once a month and love it. I wouldn’t want disco lights or videos though!

I’d enjoy using one but unfortunately, I’m too lazy to clean it every time so best not.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/01/2026 14:39

Our house (new when we bought it in 1995) had a normal sized bath with jets in the en-suite. We tried of a couple of times but couldn’t see the appeal. So we used the main bath or shower room, and the en suite one became the dog’s bath, never filled as deep as the holes.

we’ve changed it now for a normal one.

Are you talking about an outside one?
Because I had an awful experience where we fell out with an ex-neighbour and they put a live carp in it and I didn't see and got in it and had to be treated for shock

What the actual hell?😀
Tell us more.😀😀

I wanted a share a cute photo of my cat checking out the bath as I was cleaning the jets after use, and hoping to find a carp.

However, I then got paranoid that the previous owner would recognise the distinctive tile we haven’t changed, so asked ChatGPT to change the tiles. But it also added a random little candle plinth, upgraded my actual candles to more of a display, and changed the song I had playing on Spotify over the tv for some reason.

Anyway, here we are- an AI reimagining of parts of my bathroom, but the tub, telly, and chunky cat are real 😂

The house we moved into has a normal sized bath with jacuzzi jets. We cleaned it to within an inch of it's life when we first moved in otherwise I couldn't have got in it. I used it once then never again it was far too noisy to be relaxing.

SmileyMoonset · 05/01/2026 16:16

We had one years ago. You do need to clean them carefully but we had no issues with it.

We stopped using it after we had kids as 1) noise woke the baby 2) no time for baths!

I’m not sure I’d bother again as the cleaning is extra work.

Surely when you got Ai involved you could have added a couple of carp!

Note: I’m waiting to find out the carp were a typo for crap, and this thread to take on a whole darker tone…

That’s horrific for the carp. Any amount of chlorine - even that found in normal tap water - is extremely harmful for fish and causes them terrible chemical burns.

Ours is awful, really regret it & would love to remove it. It’s nigh on impossible to keep on top of the jet hygiene so rather than give us all nasty illnesses it sits unused.

EmeraldRoulette · 05/01/2026 21:57

Worried about the carp now

Okay, I have always dreamed of having one of these. What's the deal with people and their cleaning horror stories? I've had a couple of hotel rooms with them in and they've been fine. Okay, they do sound loud but worth it for the experience.

stupid question - if you have one in your house, you're filling the bath fresh every time right? So if you use the jet cleaning stuff, what's the problem?

And outdoor hot tubs and things, those have the water just sitting in them don't they? I wouldn't like that.

edwinbear · 05/01/2026 22:02

@Steanna own up now…that carp was in there all along and wasn’t it…that’s why your fluff bundle looks so fascinated 🤣. One of the best threads we’ve had on here for ages!!

Just for you, @mumsandaunties!

That is amazing!

We had one in our old house. Tried it a few times and it was filthy. I was convinced I had sorted it, rang lively bath (dds were still very small at this point so it was a massive treat), went to the landing to turn the switch on and then along with the bloody horrendous noise that I had forgotten about I heard a splashing. Went back into the bathroom to find the jets were propelling the water all over the bathroom. And still spewing out black gunk. Not only did I not get my bath I had to mop up a load of water.

House purchases in 2002. Old shower and jetted tub removed and replaced with a walk-in during 2024. Tub uses a total of two times.

We had one and it was a bugger to clean. You'd turn it on and the water in the jets shot out and absolutely stank unless you had emptied them scrupulously after every bath (whether you'd actually had the jets going or not.)
We got rid.

My friend is rigorous about the cleaning afterwards. We had a hot tub outside in our old house. Keeping it all balanced and clean put me off a bath in the home.

If you have an indoor one that drains (concede you still need to jet clean), what’s the issue?

WaitingOnSpring26 · 05/01/2026 22:43

MIL had one in the main bathroom (we live in DH’s family home) she loved it and used it most nights. We had it taken out a few years after she died as it was a noisy old thing and was installed years ago.

My pal was redoing her bathroom and the bathroom renovation people ripped out her shower to find a massive sunken whirlpool bath underneath the floor. We all went round to see it 🤣. This thing was literally a huge circle with seats, tiles and everything. It was tiered with seats built around the sides. We decided it must have been a swingers house at one time by the size of it.

Wow that's amazing, what colour was it.

We recently moved into a house with one. When we first moved in I got some of the cleaning stuff and was almost mildly disappointed that no black stuff came out when I cleaned it! But it’s air jets rather than water jets, I wonder if that makes a difference?

I do use it sometimes but I’ve been finding it blows cold air up bits of me so it’s not quite as warming as I’d hoped. It also makes my hair go incredibly tangled.

Plus the first couple of times we used it we jumped out of our skins when the jets started up again a while after it had been used. It took some googling to figure out that that’s a thing they do after 20 minutes, run the jets for 20 seconds or so to clear out the water (though most of the time whoever was in the bath has left the water in in case anyone else wants it (it’s huge and uses a lot of water) so it’s not very effective!)

Wow that's amazing, what colour was it.

The tiles were a weird pinkish colour graduating to a terracotta. It must have been 4’ deep when it was filled at the deepest point. There must have been steps down to it at one point but they’d been removed.

Kpo58 · 06/01/2026 07:56

I now want to know what happened to the carp. 🐟
