What I mean is all drinks water, tea , etc so you don't have to go in the night to the toilet ?
I've stopped about 8pm and I find it helps and I'm now mostly sleeping through the night .
Do you actively stop at a certain time ?

Nope, I take a cup of peppermint tea to bed with me. I also take medicine before bed with water. I do wake once, but honestly, I’d wake anyway so it’s really no bother.

vanillalattes · 03/01/2026 19:52

I have to have a drink to take my medication before bed (9pm) and always take a mug of cold water to bed as well. I stop caffeine after 7.30ish though :)

Bitzee · 03/01/2026 19:53

I always take a glass of water to bed but would only wake for the loo if I was really drunk which doesn’t happen often!

Primavera3 · 03/01/2026 19:54

8-ish is my cut off.

Nincompoo · 03/01/2026 19:55

I drink more in the evening than I do during the day and and often wake up in the night for a drink. I very occasionally get up for a wee during the night unless I’ve had an alcoholic drink.

Edited to add that I don’t drink caffeinated drinks after about 2pm though as then I’d struggle to sleep.

Whoneedsanamesuggestion · 03/01/2026 19:55

I always make the mistake of drinking water before bed, but I feel dehydrated if I don't. I should really drink more earlier in the day tbh, but I'm normally busy and sometimes too cold for water.

RightOnTheEdge · 03/01/2026 19:55

I drink right up until I go to bed. I never wake up in the night.
Well sometimes I do but not because I need the toilet.

ultracynic · 03/01/2026 19:56

I have my last cuppa about 11pm but also take a pint of water up to bed. I can tell how solidly I’ve slept by how much of it is gone by morning.

However, I have never needed to have a wee during the night, and long may that continue!

WarmGreyHare · 03/01/2026 19:56

Never, if I'm feeling thirsty or a bit shit I'll often knock back a big glass of squash before I brush my teeth. Hate feeling dehydrated.
Sometimes I get up in the night to pee, (like 4am or so) sometimes don't but I don't really think about it. I often wake up briefly to let the dog in/out/under the blanket or something anyway so going for a quick pee doesn't spoilt my nights

GrannyTeapot · 03/01/2026 19:57

Nope, drink whenever, I never need to get up for the toilet in the night, even after a bedtime warm drink. I feel I’m blessed as I’ve also had six kids 😆

Ohthatsabitshit · 03/01/2026 19:59

I drink right up to bedtime (11-12) wake up at 6:30-7 and drink a large glass of water, and use the loo about 8 ish. There is no nighttime waking.

Cricketashes · 03/01/2026 19:59

I don't stop drinking. I drink around 3 litres of water a day and continue drinking up until I go to bed. Never ever wake for a wee in the night.

Moveoverdarlin · 03/01/2026 19:59

I drink tea right up until I go to bed - bout midnight. Never wee in the night.

TheChosenTwo · 03/01/2026 20:01

I drink any time I like. I don’t sleep well but I don’t get up and go to the toilet in the middle of the night. I take a pint of water up to bed and often it’s gone by the time I get up in the morning. I drink about 2 litres during the day and then the extra at night but just water, I don’t drink tea/coffee/juice/fizzy at all.

Superwomanwantsnewjob · 03/01/2026 21:37

I lived in Germany for quite a while. If waking due to bladder issues being a problem perhaps consider taking l/researching pumpkin seed oil/capsules. It has an ingredient which makes a lazy bladder work more efficiently. Might help. Often recommended by GP’s over there to men and women. Just a thought.

OneFootAfterTheOther · 03/01/2026 21:42

Drink up to bedtime. Even if I wake i don’t go to the loo because i don’t want to make a habit of it. (Both DM and MIL are up a million times a night)

nopiesleftinthisvehicle · 03/01/2026 21:47

I don't have a cut off point, but usually come up to bed to scroll around 9ish.

Herbal teas/hot cordial from mid afternoon onwards.

Started the 3am wee wakeups around the age of 50ish? 🤔
Always slept through when younger.

I drink gallons of fluids in a day though.

Pixiedust49 · 03/01/2026 21:47

No matter when I stop drinking I wake for a wee in the night. Have done since my teens. I’m used to it, I’d find it really strange if I slept all night without waking up!

2026x · 03/01/2026 21:48

I drink when I'm thirsty, whatever time that might be. I don't actively avoid having to get up in the night for a wee but I don't normally need to.

CatamaranViper · 03/01/2026 21:50

I always have a glass of water in bed and will happily drink right up until bedtime.
I'm a sipper though, I make a drink last ages

tryinganothername · 03/01/2026 21:51

I have some complex kidney issues.

For years I would be up numerous times a night no matter what.

Around October I had some symptom change. (awaiting specialist appt in a few weeks). Since then, drinking the same amount, often more, after my second before bedtime wee, i can sleep through until 9am and not need to go at all.

I'm really enjoying it actually and im sleeping much better, but I know something "happened" a few months ago and the change happened literally over night.

(before I would be up 3 / 4 + times a night)

Im 45

maddiemookins16mum · 03/01/2026 22:05

I rarely drink anything after 8pm but am still awake at 5am for a wee.

Justputsomeyoghurtonit · 03/01/2026 22:08

I don't. I have a wee before bed then can sleep through.

However pre vaginal Oestrogen I needed many wees a night.

Highly recommend.

JudyMoncada · 03/01/2026 22:08

It's never occurred to me to stop. I just drink if I am thirsty.

cupfinalchaos · 03/01/2026 22:09

I’m in my late 50’s and don’t have a cut off point. Never need the toilet at night.
