Large poo stuck in waste pipe

Strawberrydelight78 · 01/01/2026 13:45

My lovely son has done the biggest poo known to man this morning in our only toilet.πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆIt has flushed but is stuck in the waste pipe. I’ve done everything suggested online put washing up liquid down poured a bucket of water down and bicarb and distilled vinegar and plunged with the toilet brush. But the water is still coming up quite high when flushed. I am trying to clear it before anyone else needs to use it. He has autism and is totally unaware of the drama he’s caused. Any suggestions of anything else I could try please? And Happy New Year.

We use bleach overnight if we have a stuck poo. Put a lot of bleach down and wait for 12 hours. It sort of dissolves the poo. I don't know if this is your only toilet though...

Lovelyindevon · 01/01/2026 17:01

I have a special length of plastic curtain rail - the bendy sort.

One end has tape on it - that's the only end I ever touch.

I added a light bend so that it will go partway round the U bend in the toilet. It needs a bit of pushing to get it round.

This + a bucket of hot water has never failed.

DJKATIE · 01/01/2026 17:02

Plastic bag over your hand and arm and push the poo down then up like a u shape. This should do the trick, just make sure no hols in the bag, have a wodge of loo paper in your hand at the time. Take the bag off turning the bag inside out as you do. Good luck

Hope it is working fine again, we get this issue in our house every few weeks 😬and I tend to rotate many of the suggestions made on this thread πŸ˜‚
Unfortunately, the flushes in contemporary toilets are very weak compared to the traditional toilets with the high water tank far above that flushed with a chain.
It's great for the environment that we use less water overall for flushing now, but I imagine there are far more chemicals being put into toilets overall!

Why is your adult son not sorting this out himself?

Do you not understand that OP’s son has Autism/additional needs? He probably doesn’t even realise the drama it’s caused. My dd certainly wouldn’t understand.

Silvercoconut · 01/01/2026 17:08

Very careful with BOILING water, you may crack the bowl. Ask me how I know........

Always been curious about the Continental toilets that have a flat inspection shelf that allows you to study the flora and fauna of your poo before flushing.

Apparently that's to check for worms.

Bubbles90 · 01/01/2026 17:14

I've been in the same predicament. The mop covered in a plastic bag solution worked a treat. I was able to create the right suction which unblocked the pipe in seconds.

Calliopespa · 01/01/2026 17:17

The blockage is essentially food op, so while you are trying everything else, I'd keep squirting generous amounts of Fairy washing up liquid into the mix as it is designed to break down food grease.

I can't promise it will work but it won't hurt and is the best tip I was ever given for removing baby vomit and baby poo stains from clothing. Works like magic where stain removers don't. Laundry detergents and bathroom cleaners aren't necessarily designed to target and break down food deposits.

muddyford · 01/01/2026 17:20

I unwound a wire coathanger and chopped it up...

MrsTulip · 01/01/2026 17:20

We had a similar problem on Christmas Eve! We did 3 cycles of good squirt (1/4 bottle) of tesco washing up liquid and a kettle of hot, not boiling water. Waited 30 minutes then flushed, This has cleared it and it's been fine since. Advice from the plumber was if you can stomach it put on a pair of rubber gloves and remove anything you can see/feel.

Merida46 · 01/01/2026 17:21

Is his name Innes?

DinoLil · 01/01/2026 17:36

Just place marking!

I have sacrificed many a mop plunging the toilet. It does work though. Far better than any plunger. Gross but works.

Keep a bag next to the loo to pop the mop head in after. Wrap and dispose. No one needs loo juice all the way to the bin!

Orangelover · 01/01/2026 17:54

Bless him OP. He must have had awful tummy ache before parting with that!

I think wire coat hanger unravelled and a good poke at it. Can’t do any harm..

MrsTrellisOgleddCymru · 01/01/2026 17:59

@MissDoubleU That’s exactly what I was imagining πŸ˜‚

Devuelta81 · 01/01/2026 18:31

I have experienced this issue and Harpic Limescale Remover solved it after several other unsuccessful attempts. Just let it sit for a good while.

Hot water and if not enough caustic soda and long term get Heavy Duty Sink and Toilet Plunger .

We have some tricky drains which can catch visitors out, so I got one of these and it's very good. Can also recommend.

Fiftyandme · 01/01/2026 18:36

Philandbill · 01/01/2026 14:00

Nope. Having worked with small children with additional needs I can say with certainty they were able to hold on on internally to an incredible amount of poo. (And it was surely very uncomfortable for them 😞)

Yup. I’ve known a 6 year produce a torpedo

Can I just recommend you do NOT mix limescale remover and bleach in the toilet. You will inadvertently create chlorine gas.

Please don’t ask me how I know this!

fluffiphlox · 01/01/2026 13:55

How old is he? I’d get the blighter to sort it himself. If he’s got a bum hole big enough to produce an enormous turd surely he’s a teenager?
Otherwise wire coat hanger.

DH presented this problem to me yesterday as he left for a GP appointment. I tried all the usual tricks without success. I ended up taking most of water out with a jug, stripped to my vest, rubber glove on and poked the bastard with my hand til it broke up. 🀣🀣🀣

Has anyone suggested Luigi World's Best Toilet Plunger yet?

Bananatime · 01/01/2026 19:15

For next time try pouring a couple of kettles of boiling water down to break up the offender. May take 2 kettles full.
Alternatively buy a pair of those extra long rubber bathroom gloves and chop it up with your gloves hand-I know.....but it's a quick win.

It'd give the plumber a laugh, if nothing else! 🀣🚽πŸͺ πŸ§»
