Large poo stuck in waste pipe

Strawberrydelight78 · 01/01/2026 13:45

My lovely son has done the biggest poo known to man this morning in our only toilet.πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆIt has flushed but is stuck in the waste pipe. I’ve done everything suggested online put washing up liquid down poured a bucket of water down and bicarb and distilled vinegar and plunged with the toilet brush. But the water is still coming up quite high when flushed. I am trying to clear it before anyone else needs to use it. He has autism and is totally unaware of the drama he’s caused. Any suggestions of anything else I could try please? And Happy New Year.

But if it's particularly stubborn and refuses to yield, you're playing Pushin' Poolette if it ends up flooding your bathroom floor with human gravy.

Ive spat my tea…this wins

As in toxic gas, extreme heat, chemical burns.

Quoting you so you see this.
What you need is caustic soda. Hardware shops sell it - independent ones.
Mix it in a bucket with really hot water. Don’t get it on your hands or in your eyes. It will dissolve the poo.

My autistic sibling used to do same and caustic soda almost always solved the issue.

Don't use bicarbonate of soda by mistake, though.

I can't help I'm afraid but I'm envious of how nice your ds's innards must've felt after dropping that.

Ha, yeah I've been thinking exactly the same πŸ˜‚

Update I’ve been putting buckets of water down and bleach. It seems to be flowing a bit better than it was. But going to avoid putting toilet roll down until back to normal. I can’t plunge too aggressively as last time I did that we had a leak and some plaster came off the living room ceiling.

So the poo brought the house down? That's impressive.

Can you get some drain rods? Last time this happened in my house I bought these which worked ver effectively: https://www.screwfix.com/p/bailey-19mm-black-drain-rod-set-9-14m-12-pieces/78472?tc=QB9

Much cheaper than the Β£250 I spent on an emergency plumber one Sunday evening when this happened soon after I bought the house and I panicked at seeing the toilet bowl water level rise almost to the top.

I haven’t RTFT, but I find Mr Muscle drain cleaner works well. It’s a big orange bottle of thick stuff. Pour in a good amount, maybe half the bottle, and leave for at least 30 minutes.

TimeForATerf · 01/01/2026 15:48

Yes to boiling water, then go away and leave it twenty minutes and try to flush. Usually come apart by this time.

For downstairs loo this has beena godsend https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MXSIOQD I find cheap washing up liquid really helps. I have a temperature kettle so have that at 80deg to pour down. Bleach is fine not sure what the issue is, and might help, it's environmentally friendly just put toilet seat down when you flush. Big squirts of washing liquid to ease it's passage, hot water and pressure gun does the trick.

Oxygen bleach is preferred to regular bleach, but the person suggesting it didn't specify which they referred to.

two buckets of water one after the other thrown violently down the bog will clear it. You have to be forceful.

Stand on a chair and pour it in from height to increase the force.

Puffsox · 01/01/2026 15:54

Something to break it up( you can sterilise the thing afterwards) followed by( plumber's advice) put several buckets or bowls of hot water whether or not using soda and/ or vinegar. The water pressure I have is rather low,so this remedy is quite often resorted to!

TwinklyRoseTurtle · 01/01/2026 15:54

Lots of kettles down of boiling water

GingerPubes · 01/01/2026 15:55

If it was actually bobbing up out of the water, I would've stuck two googly eyes on and pretended it was the Lochness Monster.

LifeIsTooFlippingShort · 01/01/2026 15:55

Are U bends narrower than they used to be? I don't remember this being a problem in the 1960s and 70s, but it sounds like it's pretty routine now!

Grizelina · 01/01/2026 15:55

A property manager visited my apartment many years ago and left a similar deposit whilst I was out! I got home to a foul stench and nearly died when I saw it sticking out of the water. Poured bleach in which turned it pink! Eventually had to resort to smashing it up with the poker!

Thatonenight · 01/01/2026 15:56

Buy One Shot from the corner shop and pour it in

ilovesushi · 01/01/2026 15:56

Don't do what I did one time and flush twice in quick succession. It all came back up and poured over the sides.πŸ’©

Haha yes the danger element does give an adrenaline rush when there is a satisfying clearing 'whoosh' 2mm before the brim! I have thankfully always managed to stop in time on the rare occasion it hasn't worked first go.
