She was a massive homophobe and racist so good riddance to her.

I hate ‘passed sway’. It particularly grates when a news site uses it.

Anyway, I only know of her bigotry, homophobia and racism.

In spite of all that, she was one of the few human beings of whom the word "iconic" could truly be used.

Not really, just being pretty doesn't make a person iconic. And you know, all the racism.

She was much, much more than just "pretty". I assume you weren't alive in her heyday. That woman WAS France. She really was an "icon" in the true meaning of that much overused phrase.

And ruined it all with her hideous racism and homophobia.

Exactly - why do people ignore this? She was prosecuted for her disgraceful views! Oh but she was pretty and nice to animals, so it's fine...

If she WAS France, then France is racist, homophobic and sexist. Seriously.

I don't know much about her personally but my goodness she was so beautiful. I was looking at some photos earlier.

She also sided with the abusers during MeToo.

And to be even more clear - I am a massive Francophile. But her views were abhorrent and being a pretty legendary doesn't excuse that. See also Catherine Deneuve and 'Me Too'. Pretty people can be shits!

I mean at least have the decency, if you're going to accuse a dead woman of being a fascist, of saying specifically what you mean.

I was aware of her championing the cause of animal welfare, but I was a bit shocked to read in the announcement yesterday of her racism and homophobia. I think her introduction into stardom as the 16 year old girlfriend of an older man was a bit dodgy too (on his part).
