17degrees makes my nose cold, am I being a wuss? I’d probably have 19 degrees overnight…any views?

The heating is set to the same day and night, upstairs where our bedroom and DS's bedroom are is around 19 degrees. DD's bedroom is downstairs which is warmer (about 22) but she keeps her radiator off and just leaves her door open in the day to allow some heat in but at night she sleeps in the cold (because her radiator doesn't work properly so it can either be hot as hell, or off, and off is preferable to hot as hell) but the heat from the rest of the house stops it getting too cold there (heating from basement underneath helps too)

FlatErica · 27/12/2025 08:30

I keep the window open all the time, even when it’s snowing. I like it cold.

blackheartsgirl · 27/12/2025 08:45

Not sure. I have the window open all year round and the heating is never on at night.

weve got a heavy frost this morning and I presume the indoor over night temp went down to maybe 8 to 10 degrees 🤷‍♀️.

I cant sleep in a warm room.

twirlywooooooooo · 27/12/2025 08:47

New house, Edwardian with single panes downstairs, last night dd woke me up so I brought her down and it was saying 13 degrees 🥶

bumphousebump · 27/12/2025 08:51

Ours was fucking freezing last night. Single glazed windows and no heating overnight. Woke up to find the dog wedged between us, snoring.

Alongthetowpath · 27/12/2025 08:51

I have the radiators turned right down in the bedroom anyway, but I turn the thermostat down on my way to bed too. Around 14, I think.
I hate sleeping in a warm room.
I turn it back to 18.5 for the day for tube rest of the house when I get up, but I keep the bedroom door shut, so it’s always much cooler in there.

reluctantbrit · 27/12/2025 08:52

Thermostat is set that it will go on when it's below 15. That happens once in a blue moon. Wool duvet plus a thin blanket which I often push aside.

Heating goes off at 10pm so there is plenty of residual warmth.

HopSpringsEternal · 27/12/2025 08:55

Ive just woke up and its 14.5. We have a thick duvet. Must have been colder in the night. Its slowly heating up to 18 which is the top temperature we go. I grew up in a boiling house of 22ish but have acclimatised over the years to less.

Sweetiedarling7 · 27/12/2025 08:56

19.5-20. I hate being cold and so does my cat.

dudsville · 27/12/2025 09:02

No heating at night here, but we also don't require layers of bedding, just a mid tog, in a brushed cotton duvet is perfect. But I do struggle to generate heat, and I learned decades ago that if I went to bed cold then I would then spend the whole night cold, so I sometimes go to bed in wool socks and with a hot water bottle, which I discard once I've warmed up.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 27/12/2025 09:03

Heating is never on at night - no idea what temperature the house drops to. 18 during the day.

tigger1001 · 27/12/2025 09:05

Heating off at night so no idea what the temperature is. Window is open in my bedroom as I prefer a cooler room for sleeping. The radiators are turned off upstairs generally as we all find it better in a cooler room.

Elbowpatch · 27/12/2025 09:05

It depends where I am. It could be anything from 5 to 30. On occasions a bit lower or higher.

03cg73 · 27/12/2025 09:09

We don’t have the heating on at night because it gives me migraines and bizarrely makes one of my dogs throw up. We thought it was a coincidence but every time we leave the heating on at night he is sick. It comes on about 5.30am to get the house up to temperature by the time people are awake

i actually quite like it cold in the room to sleep then being nosy under the duvet and lots of blankets

IceIceSlippyIce · 27/12/2025 09:19

No heating on overnight.
It switches off about 8pm, and comes back on at 6. It's 17 or 18 when I go to bed. No idea what it drops to. Usually at 18 when my alarm goes off.

Ginmonkeyagain · 27/12/2025 09:37

Never have the heating on at night. Too stuffy and sweaty.

LevelHed · 27/12/2025 09:51

During the day our house is 22 to 23 but the door to bedroom is kept closed. Heating never on in bedrrom and window open overnight year round. Down duvet and very warm in bed but must have fresh cold air to breath.

TheSmallAssassin · 27/12/2025 09:55

I think our heating is set to about 10° overnight, but I don't think it ever gets that cold. The lowest our living room has got to over the last few nights is 16°, we usually sleep with the bedroom window open a bit. I like the bed to be cosy, the air to be cool.

clarrylove · 27/12/2025 09:58

Never have the heating on overnight. Bedroom is probably 17 ish when we go to bed. Very occasionally will drop to 14 and then the heating kicks in.

ponita · 27/12/2025 10:01

The only heating we ever have on overnight is to stop the pipes freezing - it clicks on at 8 degrees.

Last night the bedroom got to 8 degrees.

We have 2 thick duvets and a heavy blanket on so I'm plenty warm enough. I hate central hearing on at night, it dries out my skin and throat.

ponita · 27/12/2025 10:02

Just to add, our bedroom is the closest room in the house, the kids room is about 12 degrees and the kitchen (extension that is really good well insulated) was about 17 all night.

cramptramp · 27/12/2025 10:03

Radiator off. Window open. Summer quilt. Very cold is great for me.

PluckyChancer · 27/12/2025 10:11

My bedroom is around 12°c overnight at the moment as I don’t have the heating on upstairs on the daytime.

I have an electric blanket on the bed and a 13tog duvet and I like a cold room to keep my face cool.

We have oil central heating downstairs but no thermostat so I switch it on and off at random points during the day. We’ve been trying to get hold of an electrician to fit a room thermostat but we’re rural and it’s hard to get hold of anyone competent.

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 27/12/2025 10:13

16 overnight. And I'm a wuss with the cold!

Stefanosgirl · 27/12/2025 12:47

19C during the day, 18C during the night.
