Guests not here yet and dinner semi under way but I’m exhausted. I would like to go away and be wined and dined.
Has anyone done exactly this and if yes was it as lovely as I imagine.
I would like a nice hotel, a fabulous Christmas dinner, come and go as I please, yes hubby will be with me but no children preferably.
All recommendations gratefully accepted. We live SE but happy to travel to the perfect place.

Please Santa grant me this one request next year. 🎄

We are currently in an amazing ultra All Inclusive 5* hotel in Turkey- had a fab 5 course gala meal and entertainment on 24th and relaxed on the beach Xmas day - is bliss. 1st time away over Xmas (me and DH and teenage kids) and we are definitely going to do it again next year!

What’s the weather like there?

jackspratswife01 · 26/12/2025 08:30

I’m in Gran Canaria for Christmas, it has been amazing here, fantastic weather everywhere open and lots to do. The decorations and lights fantastic really busy and popular to come here highly recommend

I hosted 15 people yesterday and am feeling knackered, and we still have PIL lingering until the 28th. Our youngest is nearly 9 so for the past decade I have run myself ragged trying to make Christmasses special for the kids (Santa etc) and December is mad with primary events. Plus hosting.

So, now I am seriously considering NYC next Christmas (although depended on the visa situation) just to escape the annual madness for one year and have a totally new experience. I doubt DD will believe so it will help transitioning to a new era of Christmasses.

Yes I'm considering this for Christmas 2026. We've had 3 years running hosting various family members, which is OK as we love cooking, but we never get hosted by anyone! So time for a break and change of routine next year, maybe a cottage but would consider a hotel - UK.

Dh and I currently in Lanzarote. Staying in a villa, very relaxing. Will definitely do this again!

I'm away in a hotel, and not enjoying it. Just feel awful for the poor people having to work so I can have a good time. Except I'm not having a good time as I feel rubbish about it all. I've booked a massage later- who on earth wants to spend their Christmas day giving me a massage when they could be doing something lovely of their own choosing?

I've done a cottage away and self catered. I'd do that again in a heartbeat, but I'd never do this again.

I’m aware I’m a day late replying but I hope you managed to enjoy your Christmas Day.

I spent over 20 years working in hospitality including each Christmas Day and honestly I always enjoyed it. The staff will be working anyway, so please be happy to be there and allow them to look after you.

What’s the weather like there?

It’s currently 18c but feels warmer as no wind. Shaded areas have heaters if needed. Many in bikinis.

We're in Morocco. We didn't think we'd get much of a celebration with it being an Islamic country but the hotel did a huge Christmas Eve dinner. It's been bliss to be away although the weather hasn't been great. Morocco's such an interesting country, it doesn't really matter though.

If we could afford it, I'd go away every Christmas.

We’ve been in an AI resort in Cancun for the past 5 days with another 5 to go. Blue skies, amazing pools, kids having a ball, zero stress. Totally recommend paying extra for somewhere high end. Best Christmas ever!

This sounds amazing, do you have the name of this and/ or nearby resorts you’d recommend?

Yes I’m at an all inclusive in the Canaries right now. No cooking or washing up! I’m with kids but there is an adults only section of the resort. We spent Xmas morning on the local beach which had a great atmosphere, with people in Santa hats and the kids splashing around in the sea. My parents have taken themselves off to a posh hotel in the UK for a couple of nights, have forgotten what it’s called, something like Haymead. And we’ll all see each other for new years. Won’t do this every year but it’s a lovely change up to the routine and I thoroughly recommend!

Whereabouts in the canaries and what is the weather like? I considered Tenerife but apparently it wouldn’t be sunny over Christmas and now really regretting it!

Wow what great responses to this. I’m definitely doing this next year. Now to decide where to go. Watch this space. Thanks everyone and merry Christmas 🎄

Yes please!! Sat here waiting for our guests to go. They’ve been here 3DAYS!!

Just go already 🙈🙈🙈
It’s been years since any other bugger hosted xmas. I’m exhausted. Would love to go away next year. Somewhere hot preferably ✈️🌍🌴

Hunsterbunster · 26/12/2025 18:16

We’re staying at the Moon Palace resort Cancun. Probably one of the best holidays we’ve had. High-end AI. Great restaurant and food options 24/7. Even activities to include sailing lessons are included. Staff are wonderful too.
