You know when you say you are not going to do any cleaning on Christmas Day

With all best intentions it just never happens does it. I've already found myself going round with the bin bag scooping up wrapping paper, washing the breakfast dishes, and putting bleach down the toilets before people arrive.

That's it though from me 100%. No more cleaning today. My plan of action is to claim I've had too much wine to help out with the washing up later in the afternoon. I'll no doubt still make another tour round with the bin bag again at some point today though.

Merry Christmas all.

Lone parent and will definitely be cleaning, but fully support those who won't! 😁

FestiveHolly · 25/12/2025 09:41

Never a day off huh.

I’ve set out all the gifts and hoovered as I wait for my children to wake up! 😂

That's certainly not happening here today 😆

I've hoovered up cat litter and had a general tidy.

We are both on kitchen duty at the moment.

There’s always kitchen cleaning to do if you’re cooking.

DappledThings · 25/12/2025 09:49

I've never had an aim of not cleaning. I do zero cooking so I do all washing up and will include a good wipe of all the surfaces, table, hob etc.

I loathe cooking. Cleaning is far more satisfying.

I don't know that I would call any of that (except maybe the bleach) cleaning, tbh. That's just tidying up after yourself - I would never set out to clean but I'm also not going to sit around in a pile of wrapping paper, it takes the whole of 2 minutes to chuck it in a bin bag! Same with washing breakfast plates, I can't imagine just leaving them and adding more and more. I absolutely wouldn't be doing washing/dusting/hoovering, but I don't think I would put binning wrapping paper in the same way!

BlackStrayCat · 25/12/2025 09:54

Cleaning? Putting wrapping paper in the bin?
Bit of bleach down the loo?
OK...

Why is everyone obsessed with cleaning? Who cares if/what you clean?

MIAMNER · 25/12/2025 10:05

I was trying not to but the dog has been sick x5 and I can’t really ignore that 😬

Only2daystogo · 25/12/2025 10:07

I never claim that. I avoid cleaning but have to tidy up the Christmas mess. Big bags at the ready and collect rubbish at intervals so toys don’t get lost and each child has a red kallax box which I chuck all the gifts into.

Peridot1 · 25/12/2025 10:08

I have just unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher and it’s on again. I wiped around the kitchen surfaces and the hob. Will be done a few times more today no doubt. But it’s just normal stuff. DH does the cooking.

I won’t be doing any washing though.

I'm doing that as Tuesday's load took ages to dry and DD wants stuff to see family tomorrow.

menopausalmare · 25/12/2025 10:09

Let's be honest, Christmas day is like any other day but with extra washing up. Unfortunately, the cat will still be sick on the floor and need his litter tray cleaning and the wrapping paper is everywhere.......🫣

gogomomo2 · 25/12/2025 10:09

Washing up is a necessity everyday and paper collecting is a Christmas essential task. I’ve bleached the loos just now because with 10 people here it’s essential

I’ve already done a wash 😂

vanillalattes · 25/12/2025 10:14

We clean everyday whether it’s Christmas or not. I don’t like being in a messy house and it only takes about 10-15 minutes once you keep on top of it.

Lesina · 25/12/2025 10:28

Cleaned the bathroom and put some washing on. Have also mucked out two stables 😂. Never stop cleaning and washing laundry. :)

hidinginthebathroomagain · 25/12/2025 10:33

I’ve cleared up paper. Washed dishes. Put a wash in and hoovered the kitchen because we had croissants for breakfast.
