You know when you say you are not going to do any cleaning on Christmas Day

With all best intentions it just never happens does it. I've already found myself going round with the bin bag scooping up wrapping paper, washing the breakfast dishes, and putting bleach down the toilets before people arrive.

That's it though from me 100%. No more cleaning today. My plan of action is to claim I've had too much wine to help out with the washing up later in the afternoon. I'll no doubt still make another tour round with the bin bag again at some point today though.

Merry Christmas all.

I've just changed the sheets in our bed! Because when I fall into it tonight in sheer exhaustion, they will smell fresh and lovely 😊

I was trying not to but the dog has been sick x5 and I can’t really ignore that 😬

Oh no, I hope they're OK?

sunshineandrain82 · 25/12/2025 10:47

Already done a load of washing after baby went bang in the night. I knew if I didn’t wash then the items would stain

we don’t eat at home so only have to clean up after breakfast

We often end up with a festive wash going on…but it could just as easily be DH doing it as me.

itsgettingweird · 25/12/2025 11:07

Picking up rubbish and washing dishes isn’t what I’d call housework. Neither is squirting bleach down a loo!

Some things are necessary.

I will do housework tomorrow though including washing and hoovering!

That’s what happens when you try to microwave them. 😬

I’ll get my coat.

NotForTheMoneyandNotForTheApplause · 25/12/2025 11:12

I don't understand the putting the wrapping paper in the bin, would you usually leave it on the floor?
I dont put bleach in the toilet on any day so won't be doing that but did spend about 30 seconds putting an armful of washing in the machine and turning it on. A bit later I will move it to the dryer but is dont really count that as a job as it takes no effort.

ChasingTheDuck · 25/12/2025 11:14

Robot hoover is doing his thing, dd (pre teen) has retreated back to her room for an hour of chilling before we do lunch. I think when she's gone to her dad's later I may chuck a wash on. Only me and the cats in the house at that point.

TheTecknician · 25/12/2025 11:20

I'm currently waiting for the washing machine to finish. There's a very small amount of washing up to be done but it can wait until later.

TheChosenTwo · 25/12/2025 11:24

I’ve never set out with the aim of not cleaning anything on Christmas Day, the house would be utter carnage if I decided not to bother today. We are hosting for about 24, there is always something to be wiped up, cleaned etc. I mean I’m not spending my whole day doing it but cleaning as you go just keeps everything manageable and well, not disgusting!
Who’s going to sit among spilt drinks and wrapping paper everywhere ‘because it’s Christmas and I’m not cleaning a thing!’?

Miranda65 · 25/12/2025 11:25

I have never in my life put bleach down a loo, so why would I do it on Christmas Day?
Relax, folks..... your guests are coming to see you, not an immaculate house.

I might put a festive wash on…

I already have and it’s in drier already

Buscobel · 25/12/2025 11:43

Had a quick vacuum of the kitchen because of croissant flakes.
Whizzed round the bathrooms and cloakroom

Paper is in the recycling bin.

Washed up breakfast things because otherwise we’ll run out of mugs.

I’ve set the table, got the crackers out and located puddings.

We’re not having any guests and I still stuck bleach down the loo this morning 🤷‍♀️

Tryingatleast · 25/12/2025 11:48

Cleaned cat litter and dog poo from outside, put on a wash and put out clothes , but have also eaten brownies and watched a Christmas movie. Work in retail so have to clean later as have visitors coming tomorrow and have been on solid the last five days, will be fine as will eat crap and sing at the same time!!!! Yay to those of you taking a well earned break and enjoy everyone no matter what!!

awrbc81 · 25/12/2025 11:51

I just couldn’t not pick up wrapping paper, but am quite chilled about other stuff, but i almost put on a load of towels!

Relatives once asked dh and I did we think we should get a cleaner in once a month as we seemed to be struggling. They spend their lives organising and cleaning and our house is their idea of hell so we definitely need to make sure it’s at a certain standard- I can’t have that conversation again!!!!

Midgetgemsplease · 25/12/2025 12:06

I did a massive clean last night so I'm hoping just cooking today. 😃🎄

doitwithlove · 25/12/2025 12:12

Rubbish and overfilled recycling bins done. Hoovered downstairs, washing up done, we are not even here this afternoon. A festive wash will be done tonight then back to work tomorrow.

Have a great day everyone 🎉🥳🎊

I’ve just done it!

HelpMeGetThrough · 25/12/2025 12:21

I’ve put out the recycling, washed some dishes, bagged up wrapping paper, polished dining room table (it was mucky after last night) and hoovered the whole downstairs.

Oh, done the daily clean of the bathroom, as I’m immunosuppressed and need it really clean.

I’m not doing anymore now.

LunchtimeNaps · 25/12/2025 12:22

My kitchen has never been so clean 🤣

popcornandpotatoes · 25/12/2025 12:34

Absolutely not doing amy laundry today. Surely tidying up the wrapping paper is a must though or it would be carnage

Starsea · 25/12/2025 12:42

I wouldn't mind doing a bit of cleaning if it kept the house in order, but I wouldn't be stressing myself out over it and i'd expect some help. Would probably not bother in the afternoon after a few drinks.

Temporaryname158 · 25/12/2025 12:44

I would class what you’ve listed ask keeping the place tidy (except the cleaning the toilets). But it doesn’t always have to be you. Others can help!

I don’t have my kids today. I’m out with friends later but this morning I have put a wash on, put washing away. Prepped the veg for tomorrow, got the meat out to defrost and hoovered.

I’m glad my house is clean ready for Christmas with my kids tomorrow and I wouldn’t normally do it but when on my own why not?
