Good morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to this Christmas Eve?

I've just finished my first cuppa of the day, in silence, pottering about the kitchen. I'm just about to make a coffee then head up to get dressed & see if the girls are awake for our annual walk to the market for our Christmas day veg and to see what the cheese monger has left.

It started when they were little, as a way to tire them out, and we've continued now they're older.

When we get in, we'll stick some Christmas music on and prep tomorrow's meal, and make some more mince pies 😋.

The rest of the day will be spent pottering about, and we'll probably have a takeaway for tea before showers and an hour or two with my book, for me.

Presents will be put under the tree before I go to bed & the girls will probably stay up a good while longer than me 🙈.

What about all of you? 🎅

Morning! Just having coffee sat on sofa with dog who’s cuddling up - think she’s a bit cold from her groom yesterday.

Will take her for a long walk soon then back home and bit of lunch.

i did have a gym class booked but feeling very achey from yesterdays class so think I’ll just head there after lunch to do some stretching, maybe a swim and use their spa.

Heading to grandparents later this evening to stay over.

Crunchymum · 24/12/2025 08:00

Happy Christmas eve to you lucysmam

I'm still suffering with this awful flu (day 10 and still poorly). Touch wood I don't feel as deathly as I have been feeling so its going to be a day of getting my strength back - hopefully I can make it to my sisters house tomorrow.

2 out of 3 DC are up, one is doing a puzzle and the other one is watching Netflix.

Food shopping due within the hour, only one substitute which is amazing. I'm doing our dinner on Boxing Day.

We have nothing planned today as I need to rest but DP will take the kids to drop a few gifts to his parents after lunch. I'll need a nap then I'm sure 😴

Take away pizza for dinner, Home Alone and popcorn later.

Nice and low key.

Morning, currently still in bed but my day is:
Getting up in about 30 minutes, have a cuppa, wash on and two hours of cleaning. Drink water. Wash on. Take dd to work. Have brunch. Finish wrapping (5 to go!!). Prep food for tonight (buffet 😊). Wash on. Eat a mince pie, drink a cuppa and finish my Christmas romcom book.
Mop floors. Pick DD up. Shower and Christmas pjs. Put out buffet. Watch Home Alone and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Get dressed. Family walk with dogs. DC go to bed. Watch It's a Wonderful Life with DH and have a couple of drinks. Exchange gift at midnight with him then bed. Santa will then be about ready for his delivery!

Iliketulips · 24/12/2025 08:07

Washing on, then quick(!) wipe around bathroom and hoover. Will go for a walk (luckily some nice detours around here even if going to the shops) getting some milk on the way back. Coffee and Xmas cake, then pop around to our old neighbour with their card and present. This afternoon, Xmas music, tracker Santa (I'm a bit kid even at 58!|), play game with DH. Nephew may come around. We've got a couple of luxury ready meals for tonight. Any gaps in the day, the lady who takes our exercise class has put together some 10 minute online classes, which can be done on their own or easily tied in together.

bumdidliumptious · 24/12/2025 08:08

Beginnings of what I fear may be the flu here. Done Marksies early doors and am going to power through with prep and then wrap what’s left.

Thank you! No idea what your job is but I’m always grateful to those who work to keep everything running for Christmas.

I hope you get some time off soon!

In bed having a cuppa then got 16 coming for a late lunch buffet of gammon , cauli cheese , parmentier potatoes and other grazing bits

Once my siblings with small children go home to do Santa stuff we will crack out the cards and the gin

Dh and Ds working tomorrow and I work 26th, 27th so this is the big family meet up day for my side of the family

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 24/12/2025 08:16

Good morning Lucysmam and others. I've had two coffees and a cuppa with a slice of toast. I'm heading out shortly to buy a plant in a pot for my neighbour who always gives my grandsons gifts. Then soup to make, bread sauce to prepare and general tidying to do before picking up ds from the station. I have an ironing to do and some gifts to wrap. Dd will call in at some point to pick up her tumble drying and deposit out gifts. I would like to watch Carols from Kings later but it'll depend on D's and when he arrives. Have a happy Christmas all

LoopingStar · 24/12/2025 08:16

That sounds lovely, op.

I'm having my second coffee whilst listening to one of the cats making puzzled sounds as he looks out of the window. He must have spotted a bird.

I was thinking of experiencing m&s later for character development purposes but the prospect is unappealing.
Tidying.
Wrapping gifts.

Coffeeishot · 24/12/2025 08:17

LoopingStar · 24/12/2025 08:18

Oh yes, I'll listen to carols from kings as I know my dad will be listening to it 😀

gingercat02 · 24/12/2025 08:18

Happy Christmas Eve @lucysmamand all
Having my breakfast then off to work until 4.
DH is wrapping, cleaning and sorting the food delivery. Home for a bit of prep for tomorrow and then wine, takeaway and the new Knives Out film.

plominoagain · 24/12/2025 08:21

Well my Christmas Day was yesterday , as both me and my daughter are working on the day itself , so this is really my Boxing Day . Having fallen off my horse last week and being on crutches, my plan today is to fill the car up , then spend the rest of the day grazing out of the fridge, before a long bath with a large sherry and a new book .

Nobumsonthetable · 24/12/2025 09:19

I’m still in PJs having my second cup of coffee, will shower soon and take the dog for a walk. Then I’ll do a big clean so the house is ready for Santa 🧑‍🎄 😁.
My kids are with their dad this week but he lives nearby, so will see them tomorrow for presents etc. Planning a very relaxed time.
I went to the gym yesterday and Monday so I’m a bit sore. Glad I’m not prepping for a big dinner tomorrow tbh!
Looking forward to living off posh bits and smoked salmon for a few days, no cooking for me!

DinoLil · 24/12/2025 09:28

Morning!

I'm up and dressed for a change because my Christmas lunch was delivered at 8.30am. All in little foil containers, ready to heat up tomorrow.

I'm sat catching up on the soaps, dog is snoring in her Christmas pyjamas. She's hogged all of the cushions on the settee. Typical!

And that's it!

princessspotify · 24/12/2025 09:36

Morning. We're up and just had a coffee and bacon sandwich. We're off to the coast in bit to have a walk and a hot chocolate. Then home and a buffet tea. Dh is going to 5pm mass. when he gets back probably a film with Ds.
presents are all wrapped and food is all bought. I want a few fairly chilled days as I'm working on boxing day

RoguesMum25 · 24/12/2025 09:44

It's 8:30pm Christmas eve night.
We got the last of the food that would spoil if we brought it any earlier then today then went to the dog park to try and wear our puppy out home for dinner (BBQ burgers) then another walk for our puppy.
My son is 16 yrs old now so he helped with the shopping and wrapping and our dog and has been watching some Christmas movies and now we are just watching the Christmas carols on TV before bed.

PermanentTemporary · 24/12/2025 09:46

Morning all. Just woke up so I got my lie in after all. About to get up and do as much prep as I can before a group walk later. Happy Christmas to you all x

daffodilandtulip · 24/12/2025 09:48

Morning! At 16&19, this is the first year we haven't done breakfast with Santa 😂. I'm still waiting for them to wake, when we will have our own cooked breakfast.

I've still been informed I'm doing Christmas Eve boxes, so we will have those this afternoon, then takeaway and film tonight. Always the same takeaway and always Home Alone 😂

No Christmas prep left to do so a dog walk, some reading and some card games.

SecretWitch · 24/12/2025 09:52

Merry Christmas to everyone. I’m currently sat in bed eating popcorn and waiting for my husband to come home from his shift. Fog as thick as pea soup here. Santa will be needing Rudolf today! We will have a few hours nap, then off for hot chocolate and a spin around the country side. Dinner, A Christmas Carol and then off to bed

laddersandsnakes12 · 24/12/2025 09:57

I’m recruiting our 11yo to help make the pigs in blankets, the Jamie make ahead gravy and the cheesecake for tomorrow, then we’ll take the dog for a walk. Lunch, then I’ll cook a chilli for dinner and leave it simmering on the stove for the afternoon until dinner time. Elf and muppets Christmas carol on for the afternoon and evening, then presents under the tree, a mince pie an d baileys, then bed. That’s about it!

Kim82 · 24/12/2025 09:59

Good morning everyone. I was up super early this morning as the bin lorry woke me at 6.20am.

I had a quiet few hours to myself on the sofa but all 3 girls are up and sat in the living room with me (dd21 arrived home for Christmas yesterday and dd18 got home from uni on Friday and I’m loving having them both home as is dd11).

Dh is working most of today and as a postman he’ll be super busy no doubt. I need to nip into Aldi for a few bits I’ve forgotten and then the girls are coming with me to the cemetery to give my mum and dad’s grave a little clean up and lay some flowers.

Back home afterwards and we’ll all do a quick whizz round the house to get it nice and clean and prep the potatoes and veg for tomorrow then if we’ve time we’ll watch a Christmas film.

Dh is going for a quick Christmas drink with his friends after work and I’ll pick him up from the pub around 5pm and go to my sisters for a get together for a buffet and to exchange gifts - the whole wider family will be there and ds24 will also be going. Then it’s home around 8.30 - 9pm, maybe have a glass of Prosecco and chill for a hour or two before laying the presents out and going to bed.

ochristmastreeochristmastree · 24/12/2025 10:02

Watching Christmas movies with a coffee, still in my pj's. The main food shop arrived yesterday, but have another due at 11am with lots of chocolate and stocking fillers- which are all arriving! So I'll wrap them whilst watching another Christmas movie, then shower and into clean pj's, then prepare for our buffet tonight. Ds25 snd ds20 are both home, so along with dp we'll have food and play a murder mystery game. Then I'll send them all to bed, and will put all the presents out and do the stockings.

⭐️Wishing you all a very Happy & Peaceful Christmas⭐️

Alwaystired23 · 24/12/2025 10:04

Well I was meant to be up early. My plan was to put a load of washing on, shower, make a curry and chilli ready for boxing day. Then bake with some cakes with dc. At 12 dh is finishing work, we were then going to go out for a walk. Then home to stick the gammon on, and watch a film. I didn't wake up until 9. I have put a load of washing on and made a cup of tea and filled up the basket with chocolate. Now I'm scrolling on mn, so my plans are a bit behind. Oh well. Merry Christmas everyone!
