Good morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to this Christmas Eve?

I've just finished my first cuppa of the day, in silence, pottering about the kitchen. I'm just about to make a coffee then head up to get dressed & see if the girls are awake for our annual walk to the market for our Christmas day veg and to see what the cheese monger has left.

It started when they were little, as a way to tire them out, and we've continued now they're older.

When we get in, we'll stick some Christmas music on and prep tomorrow's meal, and make some more mince pies 😋.

The rest of the day will be spent pottering about, and we'll probably have a takeaway for tea before showers and an hour or two with my book, for me.

Presents will be put under the tree before I go to bed & the girls will probably stay up a good while longer than me 🙈.

What about all of you? 🎅

Been to Sainsburys (really quiet at 9am but no turkeys - thankfully we go ours yesterday) to pick up the bread, posted a Vinted parcel and walked the dog. Mum has been over to help prep the veg and I now have all of that, pigs in blankets, stuffing and cauliflower cheese ready in the fridge for tomorrow. Need to clean the upstairs of the house and change beds for the family who are coming tomorrow and staying. We’ve got OH’s family popping over this evening so will do some snacks and then have a bath and watch the carols on TV after they’ve gone. Strangely relaxed for Christmas Eve for a change!

Working in the NHS, it's absolutely mental as everyone has sat on infections/sepsis/diabetic problems for weeks and have now flooded in wanting to be seen before christmas.

I'm feeling quite pleased with myself as I did all my cleaning and tidying on the 22nd and managed to keep it looking nice. I wanted today to relax and am still in my PJs on the sofa. DC are having lunch and watching Shrek. We've played Jenga, painted everyone's nails and set DC up in one room where they're having a sleepover to make room for my mum who's coming this evening.
I'm going to get dressed, put clean sheets on mine and DHs bed, then prep some Christmas food. This evening we've got church and our annual drive round to look at Christmas lights.
Merry Christmas, everyone.

Good afternoon, everyone!

I'm an Athiest, so I don't do any sort of Christmas/religious/New Year stuff at all.

I've been again to the local Crown & Cushion pub restaurant this morning - only 2 tables! - for my twice-weekly Full English breakfast and a huge glass of strawberry milkshake with cream, the staff know me now so they don't even ask me what I want, they just order, I pay, and I plonk down by the window!

I've bought myself 3 bottles of booze and a box of chocs, which I'll be starting tomorrow and reading and sleeping!

Afternoon all. I started with 2 cups of coffee and cracked open my Christmas jigsaw puzzle for some mindfulness. Then Asda came popped that away, 7 subs and one thing completely missing but already done the big shop on Sunday so not missing anything I can’t live without. Had a breakfast of yoghurt/museli/chia seeds and half a banana with some dark chocolate chips 🤣lots of cinnamon on top.

now I’m sat listening to carols and contemplating whether I can be bothered to make any more mince pies. Picky bits for tea and love actually with a Baileys. Then it will be midnight mass and the annual ghost story on bbc 2.

kids are adults now, but both home. Husband’s working until tonight.

Happy Christmas my lovelies.

Xmas ham is in the oven, just having a lie down after finishing some cleaning. Will relax for a bit then meeting some friends for a quick drink at the pub. Family are coming here at 6.30 ish to eat the ham and have a bit of buffet. Chucking out time is 8.30 so can then chill. Have a great Xmas everyone!

Ijwwm · 24/12/2025 14:10

Not much as I’m trapped on the sofa 😹

Have got a couple of gifts still to wrap, need to do the four litter trays and also wash/dry my hair. That’s about it for today. Easy dinner of M&S Cheese Toastie, a glass of red and something on tv later.

Happy Christmas Eve to all.

Happy Christmas Lucysmam and everyone else.
Usual slow start for me, tea and marmite pikelets in bed with cuddly cat.
Dishwasher has suddenly developed a major fault and DH is in a very bad mood because he had to queue for 45 minutes at the fishmongers to get his pre-ordered Christmas oysters. A ridiculous system apparently.
He is now finishing off cooking everything for tomorrow that can be prepared in advance. Yes he really is a prince among men except when he is in a fishmonger-induced bad mood.
We are going to DS2’s this evening for Christmas Eve Italian supper with DS2’s Italian girlfriend and her parents.
Tomorrow DS1 his DP and DGS will arrive so 11 for Christmas dinner.

More or less all ready for Christmas Day.

Parker231 · 24/12/2025 14:38

Spending most of the day going to and from the airport meeting family off their flights. DH and DT’s will be st home waiting for the buffet to be delivered for tomorrow’s lunch.

lucysmam · 24/12/2025 15:10

@Ijwwm What a good place to be trapped!

Ah @TrickyD we usually get caught in a queue at the cheese monger - first call this year though...blissfully quiet at just gone 9am. He didn't have the port one I enjoyed previously though, and I cannot for the life of me recall what it was 🤔

Me and dd1 have cracked open the booze and new "board" game. Not playing quite to the rules but it's fun!

Mince pies next 😋
