Milk for Santa. Surely not!

On another social media platform on British traditions, so many comments suggesting leaving a carrot and a glass of milk out for Santa.

When did this become a thing? Poor Santa. He always got a glass of whiskey or brandy from us. Kept him going all night. Also no mince pie??

As a child I found it odd that Santa's preference coincided with that of the householder where we were staying. GP1 Sherry, GP2 Whiskey, home beer.

The only people that drink milk as is here are the kids, so that deals with that issue for us! (We leave out milk)

Could be! My great-grandma was from Kilkenny, they emigrated over here during WW2 when my nana was young. She used to tell me stories about playing in bombed out houses (they lived in Coventry). Did your nana ever make you sugar sandwiches? I've been told that's an Irish thing too.

One of our neighbours used to make sugar sandwiches for us. With sliced white pan and butter! And of course we loved them

We've tended towards milk for santa here too, but when the kids were quite small one of them came down before santa had been and caught the cat with her paw in santa's milk, the tears and the trauma from the cat 'stealing' from santa has meant that ever since santa's drink of choice has been at the whim of the moment of the children. This year he got a smoothie, last year a baileys, the year before water because our autistic daughter was obsessed with the idea his weight was a major health crisis and she alone could save him. He also got celery not a biscuit or a mince pie that year, I'm rather suprised he left presents at all. Safe to say santa's drink in our household has been a fraught issue over the years.
