Yay! Saw it was the shortest day so light is coming back

Hobnobswantshernameback · 21/12/2025 10:43

Sunset stopped getting earlier a few days back so now we wait for sunrise to get earlier

Cannot wait !!

DorotheaShottery · 21/12/2025 10:45

I'm not a snuggly hot chocolate slurper but I try to embrace all the seasons and am currently contentedly wintering.

But a Happy Winter Solstice to us all. I love Spring!

Purplewarrior · 21/12/2025 10:46

The early sunsets don’t bother me at all, but as a lark, I really hate the dark mornings.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 21/12/2025 10:49

I've realised that it's the lack of light that bothers me and seems to sap me of energy
This year made worse by the incessant rain that has scuppered my attempts to get out of my office at lunchtime to try and recharge the batteries a little

The winter solstice is at 3.03 precisely today!

In addition, in these parts it has been raining since September. I have hardly been running, walking or done anything on my allotment since then. But it's forecast to stop over the next couple of days, and we should get at least a week of high pressure over the Christmas break. Which feels like the best Christmas present ever, right now.

Not yet, obviously- it's still hammering it down outside. Will be attending yet another wet Montol this evening.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 21/12/2025 10:55

I wouldn't mind half as much if I could see some daylight but here it's been so grey for weeks it honestly feels like it hasn't got light most days
am loving all the pretty Xmas lights at the moment
theyve really lifted my mood

Happy Solstice everyone!

squashyhat · 21/12/2025 11:19

I just sent this to my sister who is more of a winter solstice person than a Christmas person. It's gloomy here today but some lovely winter sunshine is forecast for tomorrow.

Brighter days are coming
shhblackbag · 21/12/2025 11:19

I cannot wait, it has been rough for me this year.

Miranda65 · 21/12/2025 11:23

Thank God! 22nd December is the best day of the year (at least, psychologically).

Hobnobswantshernameback · 21/12/2025 12:26

That's lovely @squashyhat

Does anyone else see it as a metaphorical cave/tunnel? I see it as I’ve made it all the way in to the end, now just have to turn around and get myself out again!
Fortunately, I have a few days away in the sun booked for mid-Feb which really helps me (mentally) as I work my way back through the tunnel.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 21/12/2025 12:56

I've also booked a holiday for February have found that super helpful the last few years

Thank god! Hate all the darkness. I have a long motorway commute and the dark + rain is so exhausting.

Tryingatleast · 21/12/2025 13:50

Just spoke about this! I love cosy Christmas time but bring on the walks and light!!

cobrakaieaglefang · 21/12/2025 13:51

I heaved a sigh of relief this morning.

ChristmasFaery · 21/12/2025 13:53

I’m so looking forward to lighter nights. I hate the dark gloominess of winter when it’s dark from 4.00pm. By the end of January it’ll be light at 5.00pm 🥰

bushproblems · 21/12/2025 15:10

For the first time in my life, I’m really struggling with the lack of light. I can’t wait for spring!

sloth75 · 21/12/2025 15:35

Can't wait to finally be able to drive later in the day and earlier in the mornings. I can't drive in the dark due to my astigmatism and hate the early evenings. It makes organising my diary for work really challenging. I also miss the early mornings. I'm up before 5am each day and hate it that it's dark for so long. Bring on the Spring!!

PlazaAthenee · 21/12/2025 15:47

We did it. Roll on daylight.

I've struggled with this far more since the council turned down and off our streetlights. I just won't go out in the evenings in winter now, even to the gym. It's oppressively gloomy in our estate now.

I’m the opposite! I really don’t mind that it’s dark til later in the morning, but as an owl, it seems like no sooner am I up and ready to do things, it’s getting dark again. And worse these dreary days when it doesn’t ever seem to be fully light.

henlake7 · 21/12/2025 21:42

Oh thank goodness! I'm so fed up of the gloom, I had to turn the lights on at 3pm today.
I wish i could just hibernate til spring.
