In trouble at work- over a quiche

Coffeandtoast · 21/12/2025 08:38

Good morning

So on Friday we had a little gathering in the office at work. We all agreed to take in various food items and my contribution was quiches and sausage rolls.

so I took four quiches. At the end of the gathering there was one whole quiche left unopened.we agreed that we’d just share out the untouched food

I said that I’d just take the unopened quiche as we would eat it at home. In then comes Patricia, an older woman who I generally find quite difficult to work with. She’s self opinionated and knows everything. I generally try hard to get on with her but she’s a massive PITA. So she said something along the lines of “ you can’t just take the quiche until we’ve discussed who’s taking what” . I explained that I wasn’t to fussed about any of it and that she could just take the quiche, she carried on with her chuntering and huffing and puffing at me. So this is where it went pear shaped, I just snapped and shouted- “ just take the cunting quiche, Patricia”

it’s all kicked off and I have a HR meeting tomorrow regarding my foul language!!!!

It's worse.

It absolutely is not.

Sugarmole · 21/12/2025 13:28

I haven't read the thread fully but I know I'll never look at a quiche in the same way....

TheHillIsMine · 21/12/2025 13:30

Since you paid for it I don't see why you couldn't just take it back.

Poor Patricia- I can see her point actually. You bought 4 quiches. £12 let’s say (I am think two for £8 in M and S, though I’m sure no M and S shoppers use such language so maybe they were £1 ones from Iceland)
Patricia bought crisps and dips- also costing £12. Everyone ate her dips so she gets £2 worth of egg sandwiches that were left to take home, and you wanted your £4 quiche. So she was just pointing out the agreed team arrangements- nothing really wrong with that tbh.

If anyone is that obsessed about their recouped expenditure from a work buffet leftovers they probably need to start looking for a better paid job.

If Patricia is so incensed on not receiving "her" 1/18th of a quiche then she should either have stuck it on her plate before everyone was full or she can provide quiches next time.

Starburst360 · 21/12/2025 13:41

I know it’s not funny but I did chuckle over this - Patricia needed to hear it!
hopefully you’re meeting with HR will be fine - it’s not great, but honestly there is so much worse.

SusiQ18472638 · 21/12/2025 13:41

In this situation I would 100% expect people to just take back anything they had bought that hadn’t been eaten. How tight do you have to be to fight over the left over food, not a good look. I don’t blame you for getting annoyed!!

firsttimesolotraveller16 · 21/12/2025 13:22

It absolutely is not.

It absolutely is. Daily pissing people off Vs a single use of the word cunt.
I know which one is more cunty.

Coffeandtoast · 21/12/2025 08:42

It was a fucking quiche Lorraine!!!!

The best one!

Isobel201 · 21/12/2025 13:47

I used to know a Patricia at work who rubbed me up the wrong way all the time and just stressed me out. I think she's right to bring it up, but yeah with the background of her annoying you all the time, I can see wht you snapped. Lets hope HR just gives you a warning, and next time deep breath, count to 10 and walk away.

Nextweektoo · 21/12/2025 13:47

This made me LOL. Im sure we've all done this with a colleague, we just tend to keep it in our heads.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 21/12/2025 13:47

Well, it’s because of the bad language, rather than the quiche.
I’ve been there, OP, and it nearly killed me to apologise to my own Patricia. But, i did it just to shut her up.
It had also put my manager in an awkward position, so it was another reason why I apologised.
He was lovely.

TimeForATerf · 21/12/2025 13:52

Oh dear, I think you might have got away with "take the bloody quiche".

Rosscameasdoody · 21/12/2025 13:53

firsttimesolotraveller16 · 21/12/2025 13:09

“Going on” and it was the person reminding OP that actually, as an office they had agreed they’d be sharing the food. Swearing at someone, in a work context, is not acceptable.

According to OP she told Patricia she wasn’t too fussed and that she could take the quiche if she wanted it. Patricia then continued on about it even though the issue had been resolved. I’d have snapped too. I probably wouldn’t have sworn but I would certainly have told Patricia to just take the quiche if that was what she wanted.

SoMuchBadAdvice · 21/12/2025 13:53

Does MN have a policy on the use of the word?

In this thread people have used the word liberally and without reprimand, it's not a word that everybody likes to see or hear, and there are alternatives.

Next time you feel like posting consider whether one of the following less offensive terms could be used;

pastry. tartlet tart flan egg pie pie pasty patty turnover

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 21/12/2025 13:54

Yes!
Is there any chance you could gaslight the odious sounding Patricia and say she misheard you say ‘bloody’??
I’m clutching at straws!

Yes but a broccoli and tomato one is worth the fight whereas a cheese and onion one should have just gone in the bin.
YABU to not acknowledge that one cunting quiche is not the same as another.

Bin??
Why would you bin a perfectly ok quiche?

FingertipSearch · 21/12/2025 13:57

Your story and the gleeful retelling make you sound vulgar and agist.

somanychristmaslights · 21/12/2025 14:01

Not surprised you have a HR meeting tomorrow. You didn’t act very professional.

It was a fucking quiche Lorraine!!!!

Now known as Cunting Patricia - at least in my head. 😂

@Coffeandtoast Don't get drawn in, say you're sorry that she was upset and point out that she was late and was trying to organise a committee meeting about a quiche which you provided and have a receipt for.
She was being a cow.
Did she provide any food for this free-for-all buffet-type lunch?

what the hell you on about 🤣🤣🤣🤣 too much overthinking for a work buffet, she brought it in and paid for it. No one ate it so she can take it back.

This has absolutely cracked me up! “Just take the cunting quiche, Patricia!” Outstanding 🤣🤣

Wreckinball · 21/12/2025 14:21

Good job colleague is not called Lorraine. Who took the quiche home or did you end up having a food fight with it?
avoid swearing at work
