How much do you spend on nieces / nephews?

I have 4 nephews and 1 niece on both mine and partners side of family. They range in age from 9- 17. im finding it hard with the older ones to pin point a price tag for gifts. My sister is very well off and tends to go crazy on my children which stresses me out. How much do you spend on your N/N?

About £20ish. Happy to go a few quid above if there is something they want. I don't get them birthday presents though as I am rubbish at that!

Runningismyhappyplace50 · 17/12/2025 21:04

Around £20.- have 5. We stop the year they turn 19- sibling with the eldest suggested this.

Wonderwall23 · 17/12/2025 21:06

We have 8 nieces and nephews (all under 13) and we spend roughly £25 on each for Christmas and same for birthday. We tend to just buy for children now and not our siblings though...and they do the same.

DS has things on his own christmas list for £10 so if a relative wanted to spend less they could easily get something for this that he'd be really pleased with.

£25 suits us budget-wise but I think I'd still stick to £25 even if I had more spare money.

Four in total £40 - £50 each

tobermoryisthebestwomble · 17/12/2025 21:08

£30-35. This year I have bought clothes, make up and skincare for my teen DNs. Previously I have bought toys, perfume (like an Arianna Grande or similar), books, art and craft supplies, Room decor items. I have some step DNs and they get a £10 voucher and maybe a box of sweets. I have 6 Nieces and Nephews, and 2 steps, plus one younger cousin in a similar age range.
My question now is when to stop and pull it back. Kids (including mine) range from 14 to 22.

EchoedSilence · 17/12/2025 21:10

£10 - £15

tikkl · 17/12/2025 21:11

About £125-ish for each.

But we only have 3 and we're high income (and we don't exchange gifts with most adults, so we prioritise the kids).

PrioritisePleasure24 · 17/12/2025 21:15

£20 to nephews, nieces and godchildren
Most of them are now over18 and that’s when
i stop and then just buy their kids if they have them. I spent on them taking them places when they were younger and still will buy them a drink/food etc when we catch up. I’m not on a high wage, it’s enough.

I’ve rarely had gifts from the adults. Maybe the odd bottle of fizz.

Fakingitnotmakingit · 17/12/2025 21:18

I have two niece's by my DB, they receive £75 each at Christmas and &50 each on birthdays from me.

I also have two nephews from SIL, my DH pays for their gifts they each get £50 for birthdays and Christmas.

DH and I have always paid our family gifts ourselves, partly because my extended family was huge when we first got together. We've never changed the approach.

bellocchild · 17/12/2025 21:22

£50 each for Christmas and birthdays. But they are Spanish, and we are the only family they have left in the UK.

Nothing.

Just all more tat really.

Get them a Greenpeace subscription.

Every single thing you can buy is ‘tat’?

Greedybilly · 17/12/2025 21:35

£20

Amiunemployable · 17/12/2025 21:43

I give my two nieces £15 each. They're teens so I'd rather they chose something themselves with the money. We only see them a few times a year so not sure what they're in to.

Feel bad for their DM though because we have five DC compared to her two we buy for.

She hasn't got much money either. I'm not sure how much she spends on our five. Less than £15 each. But I wish she wouldn't buy for them at all.Especially as our oldest 3 are 18+. But I'm not sure how to tell her not to!

One of her daughters is 18+ too. But happy to keep buying for her a bit longer. But feel like my SIL shouldn't have to buy for ours, especially the older ones. She doesn't even see them once a year. But it's awkward because she buys presents for all the kids and me and DH so obviously we reciprocate. I'd be happy to do kids only and cap at 21 or something. Really hard subject to broach.

kohlrabislaw · 17/12/2025 21:44

£15-20

Geranium1984 · 17/12/2025 21:54

3 teenages, we give £30 cash for birthday and xmas.
(Used to be gifts but now they are older they prefer putting all their birthday/xmas money towards something)

Bufftailed · 17/12/2025 21:54

£5-£10

Clearinguptheclutter · 17/12/2025 21:57

About £30-35 each
only two of them though

greengreengrass3 · 17/12/2025 21:59

£100 each on toys and then extra on an outfit, PJ’s and a couple of books.
I have 2 nieces

Lesina · 17/12/2025 22:00

Nothing.

TheNameWasOnceChosen · 17/12/2025 22:03

£30 on all of them (4). They are all older now, youngest is 24.

Funnily enough one of them earns 3x what I do!

anyolddinosaur · 17/12/2025 22:18

Over 18s get nothing and they are all over 18 now. I give £65 in cash to their children at Christmas until they reach 18. The children dont get birthday presents as I'm not close to them. The parents get me nothing, never have done, and some are pretty tardy about saying thanks. But they have bigger incomes than me so I guess it seems like not much to them.

ChaliceinWonderland · 17/12/2025 22:20

One niece she is 10. She getting about 15£. I'm on benefits and opting out of most of Xmas due to,cost.,

horseplay12 · 17/12/2025 22:21

I now just have 2 nieces, 16 & 18, and I do like to treat them as they are brilliant girls. So normally about £50 each if I can afford it but it really depends what they want - 1 has asked for cotton bedding set so I have got her that plus a surprise pair of gym shark leggings; other mentioned a digital camera so I’ve got her a very reasonably priced one plus a ticket to a gig that we know she will love that we are also going to.

golemmings · 17/12/2025 22:23

£25 each. Mine get the same from their aunt and uncle.

They get £30 from grandparents and the 4 parents get £40 from the parent/pil.

WinterBerry40 · 17/12/2025 22:26

As an only child I don't have any . Dh has two siblings , one is childless and the other one has adult children so £0 .
