How much do you spend on nieces / nephews?

I have 4 nephews and 1 niece on both mine and partners side of family. They range in age from 9- 17. im finding it hard with the older ones to pin point a price tag for gifts. My sister is very well off and tends to go crazy on my children which stresses me out. How much do you spend on your N/N?

£25 each

DappledThings · 17/12/2025 18:36

About £30 ish maybe? Just one present each. Nothing crazy.

pambeesleyhalpert · 17/12/2025 18:37

£25-30

£15-£20. 2 paperback books or one nice hardback.

LML1989AL · 17/12/2025 18:39

4 nieces (ranging between 3 - 17)
1 nephew (12)

They get £20 at Christmas & £15 for birthdays.

So £100 spent at Christmas & £75 throughout the year on birthdays.

I take £100 from Jan & Febs wages (no birthdays those months) and use the cash for the gifts throughout the year/Christmas.

The extra £25 is for cards/gift wrap.

Thats what we can afford & I do stick to it, one of my SIL’s use to send gift ideas for her 2 DC in the family group chat, however some of them were £50+ but both me & my other SIL (her sister) stuck to our budget, she got the message 🤣

yeesh · 17/12/2025 18:41

I have quite a few, I give them all &40 for birthdays, and spend about £50 at Christmas on an advent calendar and a present

HolyMoly24 · 17/12/2025 18:41

£30

Koolandorthegang · 17/12/2025 18:44

£25 each for the two young ones under 10

31 year old gets £50.

I’ll stop when they are all out earning their own money

Sassylovesbooks · 17/12/2025 18:55

We have 3 nieces and 1 nephew on my husband's side of the family. They receive £20 each - when younger it was in gifts, and now older it's money. We have decided that now all 3 girls are adults, we are stopping giving them money. So it will be only my nephew who will receive anything going forwards.

mynameiscalypso · 17/12/2025 18:57

I have two nieces (my DB’s children). I spend about £100 each on them but it’s just DS and the two of them across both of our families and I like to spoil them.

orangetriangle · 17/12/2025 19:00

I spend loads but I only have the one nieve who doesn't have any other family

Ihateslugs · 17/12/2025 19:03

I am very close to my niece and nephew, they are more like grandchildren to me due to my sister being 14 years younger than me. I moved back to my home area 15 years ago so I could help my mum look after them during the school holidays, I was a teacher which was ideal.

So I have always been generous with presents, either when buying something suggested by my sister or giving them money when they became teenagers. I started by giving the £50 each but then upgraded to £100 a few years ago and plan to make it £125 this year. I give them the same for their birthday.

I know it’s a lot but I’m lucky enough to be able to afford it and I like to treat them, the tax man will get a chunk of my savings in inheritance tax so I am trying to spend some of it first!

ExperiencedTeacher · 17/12/2025 19:07

£15-20. I have 5 nieces and nephews and 2 goddaughters. All of them get around the same amount.

Sunnyside4 · 17/12/2025 19:20

Compared to many on here, our family budgets are lower, so approx £10-15 on nieces and nephews, compared to £60ish each on DH, DM and DD. In-laws and us buy joint presents for each couple spending around £10-15. It's what the children are used to and still have the fun of a gift.

Radiator981 · 17/12/2025 19:22

Brother’s kids £50 each and brother prob spends over a £100 per my kids
husband’s nephew and nieces (cos there are more of them) and we’ve all agreed £30 each

familyissues12345 · 17/12/2025 19:23

9 nieces and nephews, ranging from 9 months to 22. Eldest two are the only girls.

Spend about £40 per child. Slightly less on two nephews than gifts get sent abroad and too expensive to send too much

whirlyhead · 17/12/2025 19:24

My partner and I have 10 nephews and nieces between us and have never bought them presents. Didn’t know it was a thing!

Lostsoultrip · 17/12/2025 19:29

About £60 but I only have one nephew. When that's two or more then I might need to reduce it a bit.

Of course it's a thing. They're your nephews and nieces. They're close family members.

NotBreckfastAtTiffanysItsBreckfastInSouthampton · 17/12/2025 19:32

£15 per child
Tbh probably will need reassessing next year.

arcticpandas · 17/12/2025 19:32

It depends on what I find for them. Usually clothes now when they are teens so 15£-40£ per child depending on what I find.

blankcanvas3 · 17/12/2025 19:52

About £200 on my niece but I only have one and she doesn’t get much from her mum and nothing from her dad. I’m 90% sure the mum probably claims our gifts are from her but as long as she’s getting something I don’t mind

Solaire18381 · 17/12/2025 19:55

Around £25-30, I have quite a number of them. Some of them are adults now so it will be getting less. Seeing as their parents haven't yet said anything about stopping presents.

ThankYouNigel · 17/12/2025 20:00

£20 each.

GreyCloudsLooming · 17/12/2025 20:00

Nothing. We don’t buy for nieces and nephews.
