Good Morning Everyone! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot. Dd2's been up a while and has just joined me to open her Advent calendar & make herself a brew.

She's planned to go Christmas shopping for me, but is so far not getting very far. When she gets in, she has homework to finish and her room to tidy. She's also waiting for their dad to let her know if he's going with her, to help carry 🤔.

Dd1's still in bed after getting in at around 3am from work 💤. When she gets up, I'll see if she fancies doing anything festive (I have no idea what, maybe some baking!).

I plan to have a slow, pottering kind of day. My freezer wants sorting out & I could do with starting to wrap some gifts, and a load of washing is waiting by the machine - always bloody washing to do!

We'll have bangers & mash for tea, with onion gravy I think. After that, tidy the kitchen and showers all round. I'll have my usual Self-Care Sunday scrubby everything shower, then an hour with my book, and an early night ready for the last week of work before Christmas 🎅.

What about all of you? 🙂

Going out soon to do a spot of food shopping and have coffee. Also need shoelaces and cough medicine - sodding tickly cough keeping me awake at night. Need to put laundry to dry too. Nothing much this afternoon but iron a shirt for job interview tomorrow.

PermanentTemporary · 14/12/2025 10:02

Morning! Sounds like a lovely day. Im
still in bed with coffee number 2. Going to get up and out to visit my mum in her nursing home early, then home and dressing up to go to my dp’s dad’s memorial service. In fact it won’t be sad, we’re expecting well over 100 people including relatives who are over from America and it’s going to be an oddly happy day. Fridge leftovers for tea.

Hedgehogsaremyjam · 14/12/2025 10:03

Morning all

Just finishing my cup of tea in bed and then it is all those annoying little jobs I don't get round to in the week plus I am halfway through clearing out ny wardrobes.

Then Strictly results and catching up with the darts and a relatively early night

Kim82 · 14/12/2025 10:07

Good morning everyone. I have a busy day today as I hardly moved off the sofa yesterday - I was horrendously hungover after my works Christmas party on Friday!

Today the house needs to be cleaned as it’s an absolute state, I need to do all the washing, I need to nip into town to finish my Christmas shopping then we’re having a gammon roast for tea.

I’d quite like another full day of just sitting on the couch watching tv but need to get organised as this week will be full on at work as my boss finishes for Christmas on Friday so will want everything finished by the time he goes. At least Monday and Tuesday next week will be easy days and I can wind down before I finish for Christmas. This week will not be fun though…

PermanentTemporary · 14/12/2025 10:14

Good luck tomorrow @TheTecknician what do you think of the job?

Lifejigsaw · 14/12/2025 10:17

Morning everyone. I’m going home today for an extended Christmas break and I’m so happy! Leaving behind the stress and chaos of the last few months to try and get on an even keel. Expect to be fed well, to sleep well, and spend lots of time in the country side!

Rainbow1235 · 14/12/2025 10:21

Good morning lucysmam and to u all . I’m sat having a cuppa but will need to shift soon as 3 out of the 6 children are coming for dinner . Then we will be putting the tree outside and putting lights on it as time we got home yesterday it was dark . Will finish wrapping last few presants as well . Have a great and safe day all 🫶

DilemmaDelilah · 14/12/2025 10:24

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone!

I was wondering where you were this morning (and getting quite worried!)

I had a lovely sleep and didn't wake up until 8.10, which is quite unusual nowadays.

Officially - we have nothing planned for today. In fact - I'm going to be making the mini quiche Lorraines and smoked salmon and broccoli mini quiches and the cheese and caramelized onion filo parcels for my post Christmas celebration with my family, to go into the freezer. Mr Dilemma has just offered to go to Sainsbury's for some bread, so I have asked him to pick up some ready made pastry while he's there. I am a really bad pastry maker and bought pastry is always nice, so I never make my own. He also asked me if I would like a Christmas sandwich for lunch so he's going to get me one of those while he's there.

I am also going to put the finishing touches to the felt Christmas stocking decoration I started (and nearly finished) yesterday. I couldn't resist the lure of the felt, the fabric, the sequins and the beads. I think it looks really good! I can't quite finish it unless I decide to go for a thin ribbon trim rather than the wider ribbon I have ordered but which has not yet been delivered. I think it may need some extra decoration, but I'm not sure what. It has a big sequinned, beaded and embroidered initial on the front but otherwise the main body of the stocking is plain, with a tartan cuff and ribbon trim (eventually). Should I add some other decoration to the main body, do you think? Or should I leave it as it is? It's not going to be needed until NEXT Christmas so I have plenty of time to think about it! I am somewhat disappointed that I don't have enough supplies so start on another one - unless I do it basically the same as the first (but green instead of red and with a different initial).

I still beat Mr Dilemma at scrabble yesterday, despite his promising start with a score of 74! I'm hoping to beat him again today, but he may not want to play.

Cod in batter and peas for supper today, Mr Dilemma will have chips with his. That will give us a little more space in the freezer.

shellyleppard · 14/12/2025 10:26

Washing machine on, lazy morning with pancakes for 3 and big mug of tea/hot chocolate. Going to get dressed eventually 🤣

stackhead · 14/12/2025 10:27

DH let me have a wonderful lie in until 9 (we have 2 smalls, lie ins are precious and rare!)

Having some downtime with smallest DD naps and then off out for dinner with my grandparents and a present exchange.

Eldest DD wants a bubble bath this afternoon and DH will nap before work tonight.

A fairly chilled weekend after the madness of December so far and the crazy 11 days ahead!

ApolloandDaphne · 14/12/2025 10:30

I'm lying on a sun lounger by a pool in Tenerife. I actually have no thoughts about the rest of the day. It's lovely.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 14/12/2025 10:30

Good morning Lucysmam and others. I like the sound of bangers and mash. I will have gammon with cauliflower cheese and tenderstem broccoli and mash.
I've had two coffees and a cuppa and a slice of toast. The tumble dryer is on -dd needs stuff done - and I've been to Aldi to top up the fridge, mainly. I'm having said cuppa then I'll crack on with more drying of clothes then my washing and general housework. I might start wrapping if I can be bothered. Enjoy your day all.

lucysmam · 14/12/2025 10:35

Wishing you the very best of luck tomorrow @TheTecknician 🍀.

@Lifejigsaw that sounds bliss, I hope you have a lovely time!

@DilemmaDelilah the tiredness from my meds & the general business of the year is catching up with me, I think. I was snuggled up with my furry hot water bottle (boy cat). He spent the night stretched out along me 😊. Your party food sounds yummy & your stocking lovely. Maybe wait until you have the ribbon you ordered, before deciding about any further decoration? The ribbon may be just what it needs.

Morning, @lucysmam I love your posts.

Slow start today after a friend's Christmas party last night. On second cup of coffee. Adult DS1 flying home next week from working abroad so we are sorting out his old bedroom, which became a bit of a dumping ground. Having a trip to the tip to get rid of old stuff, deep cleaning the whole house, then hanging Christmas lights all the way up the bannisters.

Zippedydodah · 14/12/2025 10:37

Good morning @lucysmam & crew, it’s actually not raining here and the sun’s making a half-hearted attempt at coming out for once.
The dogs have been walked, the last of the washing is in the tumble dryer and the potatoes peeled for dinner - beef casserole , mash and peas and carrots.
I’ve done the ironing and all put away too!
Dh is off for his usual Sunday gossip in the market place with anyone who stops, the dogs are snoozing and I’m having a coffee before I open the parcels that have arrived over the past few days. Some are Christmas decorations for the mantelpiece and window sill. DH is going to get to other decorations down from the attic sometime…..
I hope today goes well for you all x

lucysmam · 14/12/2025 10:38

@Jugendstiel my house could do with a deep clean - I usually do it in October half term but that was full of gigging with dd1 🎶. It'll wait til new year now!

Eastie77Returns · 14/12/2025 10:46

Rare lie-in today as usually up at 7am to take DD to football but her team played their last game of the year last week.

Need to finish wrapping presents and package up gifts I’m posting to my nephews. One was born on Dec 24th so have to include his birthday present as he gets quite upset if he receives a single Birthmas present😅

Have to take car to the car wash as it’s an absolute state. Then dropping DS to a birthday party. Thankfully it’s a 2 min walk away and the birthday mum messaged to say she is happy to keep the kids until 6pm. Brave woman, can’t think of anything worse than half a day with a houseful of 10 year old boys!

tobermoryisthebestwomble · 14/12/2025 10:52

I'vehad a bit of a sleep in as still getting over this virus. I had my first coffee with some Christmas carols on alexa in the twinkling lights of the Christmas tree. I've made some pain au chocolat, and had the second coffee with warm pastries with dh and dd.. I'm going to sort the mess of Christmas presents still in their delivery boxes which is currently taking over my office, and start some wrapping. Then a shower and skincare and off for Sunday roast with family. This afternoon. Will be chill, a moie, and maybe a glass of wine if I'm feeling up to it

Sundazie · 14/12/2025 10:55

Also had a lay in this morning after a few crazy weeks and not feeling on form. I need to clean my house. Plan to colour my hair. Plus a few more Christmas gifts need ordering. I also have a huge pile of ironing. The dog will need a walk but that is the only time I plan to leave the house! Have a good day all!

zingally · 14/12/2025 10:57

Not much going on here!

I did debate driving over to Home Bargains for opening time to check out the Christmas snacks, but in the end, I just couldn't be bothered and decided to stay in the warm.

I'm about to put the dishwasher on, and will do a load of washing at some point.

I've been put in charge of creating a quiz for our family party next Saturday, so need to crack on with that. It needs to appeal to all ages 8-70, so I need to give it some thought. Might ask AI to give me a hand!

I work in school, so only one more week to do. It's a slog though! We're all getting a bit fed up now - and the dark mornings and dark evenings don't help!

PermanentTemporary · 14/12/2025 10:14

Good luck tomorrow @TheTecknician what do you think of the job?

It's a company and role I've worked for previously for 15 years. I'm ready to return but in a less responsible job and part-time to begin with. It's nothing I'm not fully aware of and I expect I'll see a lot of familiar faces from the company tomorrow. However, I'm taking nothing for granted.

mamaduckbone · 14/12/2025 11:09

Good morning!
We've had a very lazy morning - finished tidying up from last night, drunk coffee, listened to music and just about got dressed so far. We did 2 dishwasher loads and most of the clearing up last night though, which was a bonus to wake up to.
Dh and I will go for a walk once he's dropped ds1 off at his gf's. I'll call at mum's this afternoon and that's about it. No idea what ds2 is up to - very little I expect. We have a ton of pulled pork and macaroni cheese left (wildly overcatered for guests last night) so that's dinner sorted.
A bit of school work, the latest episode of Down Cemetery Road, a bath and an early night this evening.

@lucysmam, your hot water bottle cat sounds just lovely

Giggorata · 14/12/2025 11:37

Good morning, lucysmam and all.
I was very busy running around yesterday with errands and shopping, so a quiet day today, just pottering.
I have got some Solstice and Xmas decorations out of storage and will put them up at some point.

We have a FaceTime this afternoon with DGC, I might finally find out what sort of Lego they want.. it is all quite mystifying.
..and I have a Zoom with friends this evening.

In between, I will be searching for the Lazy Xmas Tree. This is the smaller, LED one that we use when we have no family or guests. It seems to be missing, as it wasn’t with the other decorations. I hope I haven't given it away.
I have made a huge error by asking our handyman to trim the jungle that is our back garden, so all the foliage with red berries that I normally have on the mantelpieces is gone.
I think we might have haggis and neeps this evening for dinner.

1AnotherOne · 14/12/2025 11:43

Dog had me up at 6am wanting her breakfast. So we got up at 7 and she had that. I had a coffee then took her out but she didn’t fancy going far. Came home, everything shower and popped on some fake tan.

put a beef stew in the slow cooker, going to have some lunch soon. Have mostly been sat on the sofa as had a busy day cleaning, washing, present wrapping yesterday.

Will probably take dog out again late afternoon.
