Can I ask how it started? I’m feeling a little achy and out of breath this afternoon and I’m wondering if this is the start of something.

Depends, are you overweight?

winterbluess · 13/12/2025 19:54

I haven't had it, but keep reading it comes on very suddenly..

Pussert · 13/12/2025 19:57

I had a sore back and felt really tired. It came on suddenly that evening, watching TV in bed one minute then shaking and teeth chittering the next. The rest of the symptoms came quickly after that

NoelEdmondsHairGel · 13/12/2025 20:06

A pain in my chest, followed swiftly by shattering tiredness and aching.

BastardtheCat · 13/12/2025 20:33

Not overweight, slightly under if anything.

Yes - tiredness, but breathless and a tiny bit ‘different’ when I breathe in and out.

Got a work week from hell coming up and give not wrapped anything yet 🤯.

maybe I’m over thinking this somewhat 😅

Felt like I was vaguely getting a cold. Next day bam

H202too · 13/12/2025 21:34

Did anyone start with a sore throat?

incognitomummy · 13/12/2025 21:37

Flu is meant to come on very suddenly.
covid and a common cold can creep up on you.
At least according to an article I read this morning. Not sure how true.

BeforeSigourneyWeaverTheyWoveTheirOwnSigourneys · 13/12/2025 21:38

Mine started with sore throat and earache one day.

The next day I was coughing so hard I broke a rib and couldn't get out of bed.

I'm 2 weeks after it now and still feeling pretty tired and not fully myself.

HonestGoldAnt · 13/12/2025 21:39

Intensely painful sore throat

I’ve only had proper flu twice in my life (late 40s)…both times I felt fine one minute and then around 30 minutes later like I’d been hit by a truck

FuglyBitch · 13/12/2025 21:43

Sore throat, which then developed to heavy head, travelled to chesty cough, fever, tickly throat, feeling weak, lost sense of taste and ears blocked ☹️ feel terrible

Yes. Sore throat one day and terrible cold the next (today). Am really hoping that I've just got a bad cold and it's not going to get worse.

Grandmashorty · 13/12/2025 21:46

Think my daughter has it.
Coughing + +
Pain on breathing in.
Extreme fatigue.

Sprig1 · 13/12/2025 21:51

Sore throat first. Main symptom was coughing. Lots of coughing!

Peridot1 · 13/12/2025 21:54

I think I had flu about six weeks ago. Started feeling shivery while watching tv and within half an hour was shivering so much my teeth were chattering and I crawled into bed.

Some of these sound like heavy colds. I get a painful sore throat a couple of days before a cold which then disappears and cold symptoms (cough, phlegm in chest, nose symptoms etc) then appear which can be bad and generally don’t feel great.

My DH has said when he’s had flu, it came on incredibly quickly. He was on his hands and knees when he had to go to the loo.

Have you all had flu vaccine?

I started with a scratchy throat and bit of a cough yesterday morning and by the early evening I started needing the paracetamol. Iv been needing back to back paracetamol every 4 hours until I took myself for a sleep this afternoon and iv managed to go nearly 7 hours without it but I can feel my body start to ache again and temperature go up. Iv luckily not felt it un my chest but horrible throat cough and achy everywhere!

That's interesting and was definitely the case when I had swine flu back in whenever that was a thing, 2009 maybe? I left London on the train feeling absolutely fine and by the time I got off in Birmingham I was so unwell I had to get a taxi home from the station.

umberpigeon · 13/12/2025 22:08

Both DC seem to have come down with it - DD1 yesterday then DD2 today. Both have fevers, fatigue and just feeling terrible. DD1 says she’s better this eve but just v tired and coughing lots. DD2 vomiting and looks liked she’s aged 50 years.

I’m absolutely frantic. Supposed to be going on holiday on weds and have no idea how this is going to pan out. Suspect DC will be fine but I can’t see how I will dodge it!

pinkstinks · 13/12/2025 22:10

Absolutely wiped me out not quite right a week later and now my wisdom teeth are kicking off - is that normal?!

Pressure in your sinuses can cause teeth to hurt, in my experience. When my hayfever is bad I often get toothache with it!

Ifonlyiweretaller · 13/12/2025 22:24

i started with a sore throat, then got the cough, but never for the full on flu symptoms thankfully. So if you have similar symptoms it may not develop into flu. That said, my illness lasted over 4 weeks and became a chest infection that needed antibiotics to settle it. Relieved to say I’ve never had flu in my 64 years…

That's been my experience too.
