Can I ask how it started? I’m feeling a little achy and out of breath this afternoon and I’m wondering if this is the start of something.

I had a really bad sore throat yesterday, had read this was the start of the flu so quickly cancelled everything that could be cancelled for the next couple of days, and now I’m fine. Hopefully it’s not the flu for you OP - there’s a few other things doing the rounds that while not pleasant, are t that bad.

Sore throat and cough , felt hot. Came on overnight. Never felt so ill. Except for about 30 years ago when I had flu before.

Aches then headache then woke up with sore throat and cough. Stayed in bed and vomited a lot.

I’m on day 5 and about to get out of bed… day 1 felt like a normal cold but then the fever started. I’ve not really been out of bed properly since. Main symptoms are aching pain, headaches, dizziness and exhaustion for me. Chesty cough that hurts but breathing had been fine.
I had pneumonia a couple of years ago and was up and about 2 days later so have been really surprised how awful this has been.

I have had a proper flu twice in my life. One minute fine the next I could barely stand.

The last time was on a Christmas Day. I cooked a huge roast dinner and was very merry. I watched Call the Midwife Christmas special and pretty much collapsed after. DH also had it, the only time he has, no one else caught it.

Mine started very very suddenly with a terrible sore throat, swollen glands and a temperature, oh and body aches (my hips!) progressed to all the above symptoms plus extreme fatigue and weakness, bad stomach and a slight cough. I’m now day 7 and still feel very rough although the fever/headache/sore throat are completely gone. I’ve got to return to work tomorrow so that should be fun…

Had a headache. Then the muscle soreness started, and then the rest of the symptoms.

dinesaurrawr · 14/12/2025 13:24

Haven’t got it but I don’t feel too great today, for a headache that won’t shift and feel like I’ve got no energy, could be stress though.
when I had flu years ago I went to work in the day fine but when I got home from work I was like a different person,I was out for over a week, couldn’t eat or sleep, never been so ill

That's been my experience too.

Yep. Got it in 1974 and one minute I was quite happily listening to my History teacher, the next I was shaking and hardly able to walk to the sick room. I didn’t eat for a week and two weeks later my
mum
tried to walk me to the GP and I had to sit down every 59 yards

Brutal. Hope you’re all able to recover soon.

I’ve never had it, hence Ive i
not thought about the vaccine. I’m only 53 but in a public facing job so am starting to wonder whether ai should have it.

I think I’m run down - still very off but not that ‘Bam!’ followed by being floored. Feel out of sorts I suppose.

Get well soon everyone. The media is whipping up a real frenzy with this year’s flu.
