Update on her Facebook page by her family.

It's so upsetting. She made me fall in love with reading again as an adult.

Very sad news. I loved her books both as Sophie and as Madeleine. Can You Keep a Secret was my favourite 🩷

StarsTwinklingPomanders · 10/12/2025 13:25

I've read copious amounts of Balzac, Zola , dickens joyce and so on but Sophie's books are the only ones I can read and re read over and over
Christmas shopaholic is genius ,I'm so sad she's brought me so much joy....

PurpleNebula84 · 10/12/2025 13:26

This is so sad! I love Sophie Kinsella books... My favourite has to be Can You Keep a Secret. I have read it many many times and I love it!

Thmssngvwlsrnd · 10/12/2025 13:28

My daughter loved her Mummy Fairy and Me series. Very sad news.

Tana433 · 10/12/2025 13:28

That has really saddened me. I knew she had a brain tumour but was hoping that she was recovering. I absolutely loved all her books ( i think i have read then all) This evening i am going to open a bottle of wine and watch my Confessions Of A Shopaholic dvd for the thousandth time and raise a glass to this lovely woman who brought me so much joy and is gone far to soon.

Friendlyfart · 10/12/2025 13:28

That’s really sad. I didn’t know she was ill.

RubieChewsDay · 10/12/2025 13:28

This is awful news, what a shock, absolutely devastating for her family and friends, and a huge loss to all her readers.

I absolutely loved her books, almost always guaranteed to make me laugh out out loud. I knew whenever I picked up one of them I was going to have a great enjoyable read.

LaurieFairyCake · 10/12/2025 13:29

I think I’ve read all her books but had no idea she was ill. I’m very sad she’s died, she was really gifted. My age too, so obviously too young.

MirrorMirror1247 · 10/12/2025 13:32

That's such a shame. I was thinking about her Shopaholic books yesterday when I randomly remembered the scene where Becky sits down to write a finance book and can't get beyond "Finance is.....". She was far too young to have this happen. Rest well, Sophie.

I think it's mine too. Emma was such a funny character and so relatable.

Holluschickie · 10/12/2025 13:33

I must read her non-Shopaholic books.

letitallopen · 10/12/2025 13:33

I’m actually so shocked by this. I know her novels were not great literature but she was a brilliant writer and only young.

How very sad Sad

Condolences to her family.

OriginalUsername2 · 10/12/2025 13:34

Oh how sad!

My early twenties were filled with her stories.

I think I’ll reread an old favourite “The undomestic goddess” and get her latest book too.

What a legacy of books she has left. Just looking at her Amazon page, she was prolific.

CurbsideProphet · 10/12/2025 13:38

Such a shame for Sophie's family and all the readers who have enjoyed her books over the years.

Brain tumours are so cruel, the lack of research and treatment is just horrendous.

usedtobeaylis · 10/12/2025 13:40

That is so sad. I remember reading Can You Keep A Secret in my early 20s and properly laughing.

We really do need more research and treatments into brain tumours. So many die.

Loved her books.Very easy to read. Thoughts to her family.

Yes my brother in law died after turning 40 from an advanced brain tumour - from diagnosis to him passing away was just 6 months 😢. He left behind two young children and a distraught wife.

whatsit84 · 10/12/2025 13:41

Oh that’s really sad, I loved those books.

roycroppersshopper · 10/12/2025 13:41

Really sad news. Loved all her books (except the american shopaholic one which I couldn't get into). Such a shame, a great writer. I didn't know she had written a book about a cancer diagnosis. I'll go buy that now.

elliejjtiny · 10/12/2025 13:42

That's so sad. Shopaholic ties the knot is my book I always take to hospital with me.

WearyAuldWumman · 10/12/2025 13:42

I'm very sorry to hear this. Far too young.

drspouse · 10/12/2025 13:44

I read What It Feels Like recently and guessed this was coming.
I'm actually listening to The Burnout on audio book at the moment. It's really good and also hilarious.

cordelia16 · 10/12/2025 13:44

I am so saddened by this news. She seemed like such a warm and witty person, and I loved all of her books.

Twenties Girl is my all-time favourite book. Ever.

She was at an author's event recently, and I hoped that that meant she was doing well (though realistically there is no full recovery from what she had).

RIP 💐

Biggest cancer killer of under 40s but gets minuscule funding. Horrible, cruel disease.

RIP Sophie.

shakethatshimmy · 10/12/2025 13:49

This is so sad, I loved her books. I only read the burnout this summer. I had no idea she was ill.

RIP Sophie

OneCleverPinkFawn · 10/12/2025 13:49

How sad! I loved her books dearly
