I am the latter, am trying to dust every day but with work / animals/ caring responsibilities it just gets left.
Im hoping that a daily 10 mins will save me the twice a week 50 mins to do it all.

I’m a dust when someone else notices its dusty person.

I damp dust one room every day, DS2s bedroom more often, so everywhere is done at least once a week but DS2 has dust mite allergy and asthma so I have to.

Same here, do a bedroom per week (cycle through them) and alternate front/back of downstairs weekly. If I miss a week, I don’t play catch up unless visitors might notice. Dust allergy too, old house, no pets.

MrsSkylerWhite · 07/12/2025 14:25

People dust every day? 😳

PigeonsandSquirrels · 07/12/2025 14:26

You’re dusting too much. I have a feather duster and every few months I spot dust so I dust. Nobody has time to daily dust.

Whereismyfleeceblanket · 07/12/2025 14:46

What is this dust /dusting you speak of op??

TheAlcott · 07/12/2025 14:54

I dust when the spiders start sneezing in their cobwebs.

OriginalUsername2 · 07/12/2025 15:37

I run the brush vacuum attachment over dusty surfaces maybe once a week. The ceiling edges are done just before the Christmas decorations go up. I use a wad of tissue to dust off the window sill, loo and sink if it needs it. The cats like hanging out in there so that’s most days but it takes no time at all.

DoAWheelie · 07/12/2025 15:41

I can't physically do it due to my disabilities but I have a dust allergy. I ask family/friends to do it for me every time I start getting allergic reactions.

Sometimes I go 3 weeks without reactions, sometimes it's as little as 5 days. If I ever get a small lottery win I'm putting aside the money to hire a twice weekly cleaner!

NoTouch · 07/12/2025 15:45

More often now as niece visits and put noticeable handprints on things, undisturbed dust is much less noticeable. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Purplevelvets · 07/12/2025 15:46

I've never dusted daily, but always did once a week religiously. Now there are only 3 adults in the house (not children) I find things don't get dusty and once a fortnight is plenty.

popcornandpotatoes · 07/12/2025 15:48

Pretty much never, and I rarely notice a dusty surface either.

Strawberrygingerbread · 07/12/2025 15:49

Different houses have different amounts of dust. I used to be a dust once a year person. Yet since moving house I'm noticing it DAILY. It's so strange. I just can't keep on top of the dust!

Get to fuck! Does ANYONE other than a servant do daily dusting? I'm lucky if I put my dirty knickers in the laundry basket daily.

I think you and I could be friends 😎

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 07/12/2025 15:53

Once a week is average here unless I spot something. Kitchen, bathrooms and dining table wiped down daily.

PauliesWalnuts · 07/12/2025 15:56

Daily - I open every window in the house and damp dust and hoover as I’m another who has bad allergies. I am basically the person another poster mentioned upthread - I have no kids, no pets, and live in a fairly minimalist house with no ornaments. I do have plants but they go in the shower for a clean and a drink while I damp dust 😁

CaptainSevenofNine · 07/12/2025 16:00

Every Saturday DH and I team up and clean the house from top to bottom. 3 bed semi detached. Takes us about 3 hours each, but house effectively gets a “spring clean” every week.

I'm a dust when we have visitors coming if I notice the dust kind of person.

This is me. I usually notice it and think I'll do that tomorrow but unfortunately tomorrow never comes.

A friend swears by doing it every day, only takes 10 mins she says, similar sized house.

I run my finger along dusty surfaces as I see them.
I need to dust but then in January we are getting a wall knocked down so definitely don't want to dust after Dec 31st!

CombatBarbie · 07/12/2025 16:51

Its dust from the log burner plus dog hair so its very noticeable.

In which case I use the soft round brush attachment on my Henry and go over surfaces, skirting boards, window ledges once or twice a month.

SeashellDREAMS · 07/12/2025 16:52

I used to have tasks assigned to every day of the week, and larger tasks such as cleaning the fridge I tried to do once a month.
These days I only do one thing once a week and that is to give the loo a thorough clean, usually Fridays for some reason.
I'm definitely not a dust surfaces regularly type of person, I wait until I realize how dusty something is because I've actually taken the time to notice in my busy day, and then I do it!

When visitors come or it irritates me. I have serious visitors coming this Christmas though, their house is showroom ready (no eating anywhere except kitchen table, no shoes inside etc etc). And breathe …

no eating anywhere except kitchen table, no shoes inside etc etc

I don’t even consider myself a clean/tidy person but we have these ‘rules’ 😁

BartholemewTheCat · 07/12/2025 18:07

I do it once a week, along with the hoovering and mopping, cleaning the bathroom etc.

Tryingatleast · 07/12/2025 18:13

OopOop

Would you never have popcorn watching tv? Or snacks? I’d also have a cup of tea while doing stuff on the laptop on my son’s study table!

Gwenhwyfar · 07/12/2025 18:16

Every day??

I go around with the feather duster once a month. Certain areas get dusted with an actual duster if they look dusty, but that is even less often.

SoManyDandelions · 07/12/2025 18:18

Downstairs once a week
Upstairs...maybe once a month 😬

I used to clean the whole house every week, but am now working full time and big chunks of my weekend are spent visiting/helping elderly parents. Something had to give, so upstairs gets dusty!
