Are you a dust every day or dust when you see its dusty person?

I am the latter, am trying to dust every day but with work / animals/ caring responsibilities it just gets left.
Im hoping that a daily 10 mins will save me the twice a week 50 mins to do it all.

I don't see how it could possibly be quicker to do it more often, you've still got to wipe just as many things down.

I put Christmas decs along the window sills and thought about how I really should have dusted first. I didn't though.

It is quicker if regular it’s a quick wipe whereas if it builds up it’s a wet cloth, rinsed and repeated several times

life is too short for daily dusting but keeping on top of it reduces allergies - weekly

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 07/12/2025 12:25

I’ve never dusted every day, or anything like it! I try to avoid looking with my reading glasses on, so I don’t see it. With a bit of a pre Christmas blitz coming up, though, I will certainly need my specs.

Catpiece · 07/12/2025 12:59

Only if i can see it needs doing. Usually when I’m having a change around. Or Christmas.

Caspianberg · 07/12/2025 13:08

Most days. Ds is allergic to dust so it has to be done. We have robot hoovers on two floors to auto keep floor dust down.
I don’t do whole house daily but main rooms every day and the other alternate.

Don't the non-dusters sneeze a lot?
I am not a great one for housework but I have to wipe a damp cloth around every week or so or I am sneezing like mad.

A friend swears by doing it every day, only takes 10 mins she says, similar sized house.

I assume her house is minimalist with no ornaments, pictures, houseplants on shelves and windowsills and zero clutter (is she child-free?) and even so I can’t believe you could get a duster over every surface in a house that could potentially collect dust in 10 minutes!

Mikart · 07/12/2025 13:15

I dust about once a month

Terrytheweasel · 07/12/2025 13:18

I have one room in my house that gets much dustier than the others. It has the loft hatch in it so it must be coming from there. It probably needs it daily but realistically, it’s once a fortnight.

The thing that triggers my reaction to dust (sneezes and puffy eyes) is when I disturb dust by pulling boxes out from under the bed or deciding for some reason to dust the top bookshelf - something a bit more dramatic than ordinary dusting. Dust just sitting there minding its own business doesn’t make me sneeze.

Pumpkinpuffin · 07/12/2025 13:26

This thread reminded me about what my late Mum would say about hanging cobwebs.
"Leave them and then spray them silver at Christmas!"

Romeiswheretheheartis · 07/12/2025 13:27

Weekly, but it doesn't take me very long at all, so I guess I'm not as thorough as some people would be.

UtterlyOtterly · 07/12/2025 13:27

I dust very rarely although DH seems to do it more often. I'm not sure where he keeps the dusters tbh.

BigAnne · 07/12/2025 13:29

Get an air purifier with a carbon filter.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 07/12/2025 13:30

Fornightly
damp dusting with anti bac spray

GooseyGandalf · 07/12/2025 13:30

If you need to dust daily, you might need to look into eliminating the sources of the dust.

It might be a better use of time to clean filters, curtains, soft furnishings, carpets etc

Cynic17 · 07/12/2025 13:31

I dust about once every couple of months when the dust gets too thick and it starts to annoy me! Life is too short to spend it dusting.

No we don’t in my house, and we have several with allergies.

But I have been blowing my nose more since we’ve been burning a lot of logs, so that might be related.

Iamnicehonest · 07/12/2025 13:39

Dust? Whats that?

GiantTeddyIsTired · 07/12/2025 13:41

I'm a 'I've lived in this house 6 years and have never intentionally dusted' person.

Sure, when like when doing a big clean of a room (probably happens maybe once in 2 years) most stuff will get a wipe, but I would never intentionally dust in the way that my nan did.

TitanicWasAGreatMovie · 07/12/2025 13:44

I am very alleric to dust (mites) so when my sneezing gets out of control, I know its time! In theory one a week, in practice much less for most of the house.

Blueuggboots · 07/12/2025 13:44

Im
a dust when someone is visiting and you can’t get away with it anymore kind of person!!
I get more housework done in the hour before someone arrives than I do at any other time.

Greatholidaybut · 07/12/2025 13:47

Only when the sun shines into the house and then when I can be bothered!

KimonoQueen · 07/12/2025 13:52

Ive been known to write the date in the dust to remind me to get around to doing it.

Its just never convenient when I notice it...and I'm not a 'today is dusting day' type of person

OhDear111 · 07/12/2025 13:54

Dust when we have visitors - cleaner dusts some rooms every 2 weeks. Works for us.

Squirrelsnut · 07/12/2025 13:56

Once a month. I work 6 days a week with a long commute, and I hate dusting.
