Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

lucysmam · 07/12/2025 09:01

I'm drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot. It's silent apart from the washer, for the first of 2 towel loads, although I think dd2 is up. The cats have been fed, after boy cat decided he'd snuggled long enough & got out of bed. One of them is playing with something tinkly but I cba to go find out what it is 🤷‍♀️.

Plan for today is another steady, moochy one. I'm going to spend a bit of time with my lists after posting this, and order the last few things on them for delivery. There are a handful of decorations I want to put up in the kitchen, and a second cake to bake too.

Other than that, I'll be pottering or painting at a leisurely pace.

We're having gammon for tea, cooked in the slow cooker, with roasties and some sort of veg. Definitely not a full on roast today!

After that, showers, and get ready for the coming week...10 get ups til the Christmas holidays...and so much to do! I'll get my scrubby everything shower tomorrow when the electrician has fixed the upstairs lights again 💡.

What about all of you?

Morning @lucysmam, I’m having a quiet morning, was out all day hiking yesterday so need a rest! Have had a coffee and did a short yoga session, also had the Tesco delivery so unpacked that and cleaned the fridge. Haven’t tackled the rest of the kitchen yet, I’m still trying to find the motivation!

DD is at her boyfriend’s so I have the house to myself. Planning to pop out for some Christmas shopping later, then I’m considering putting the tree and decorations up when I get back and maybe doing some wrapping depending on how tired I am!

I’ve got Indian spiced chicken breast for dinner with rice, mango chutney and raita and maybe a mini naan which I will eat while watching the strictly results. Will also have a bath and wash my hair at some point, and make up my lunches for the next few days at work.

Doesn’t sound quite so relaxing now I’ve written it all down! 😄

Natsku · 07/12/2025 09:23

I need to order the last few Christmas presents so I'll probably do that today but first I'm going to make baked eggs for my lunch and watch some telly. I'm a bit hungover from celebrating Independence Day last night so don't really want to do anything else today, though I really ought to do some cleaning.

Need to decide what to make for dinner, I have some mincemeat but not sure what I want to do with it, maybe meatloaf?

FayKnights · 07/12/2025 09:24

Morning @lucysmam and Sunday Gang

As I type this I’m the first one, but it might change by the time I finish the post!

Its grey and wet here, but just about to hop in the shower to get ready for a trip into London to see The Cursed Child. My eldest DS got us tickets for my birthday back in June, so have been patiently waiting for the day to arrive.
We are both HP fans and rather excited.

I finish work on 19 December for 2 weeks and cannot wait, it’s been a mental year and I haven’t taken any long periods of leave as yet so on countdown.

Have a good day all!!!

Oh but I will definitely spend at least a couple of hours today reading. I've been spending most of my free time reading lately and its been lovely, so much nicer than staring at a screen.

lucysmam · 07/12/2025 09:24

@MummyInTheNecropolis when you find some motivation, send some my way!!

@Natsku I too have been enjoying reading lately, and listening to Nigel Slater reading the Christmas Chronicles. So much gentler on the brain 😊

Good morning Lucysmam and others. I have had two coffees and a cuppa and a slice of toast. I had great intentions this morning ( I know, the road to hell and all that) but I'm feeling very tired and I've rethought my plan to go Christmas shopping this morning. I will get out the Christmas tree and decorations and spend the day doing that instead. I also need to iron. Dinner will possibly be a chicken, bacon and leek pie if I can be bothered. Enjoy your day all.

Blorengia · 07/12/2025 09:32

... not a lot. I'm retired, I'm still in night T-shirt, just finished a cuppa, sitting on the settee next to our old tuxedo cat. It's grey and raining outside (south Wales). I still have some bulbs that need planting but it's so soggy everywhere. Just finished a jigsaw yesterday, one I started last Easter, so might start a Christmassy one today. Some sort of lamb tagine for our main meal later... If it dries up at all we'll get in a walk at the local country park.

Grumpynan · 07/12/2025 09:37

I’m in bed with gastro flu have been here for two weeks, last thing I had to eat was 2 cream crackers on the 26th when I thought it was just an ibs flare up. DH called the doctor last Wednesday and I actually got a home visit !. Nurse has been out once since and phones every day !

ive been seriously dehydrated but as I have extreme anxiety I don’t leave the house so they have been treating me at home, so they have been trying to get my fluids up first

so plan today - DH is going to help get me in the shower and wash my hair, it’s waist length and whereas I’ve been showering I’ve not washed my hair for a few days. Then the big excitement 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 I’m going to try half a slice of dry toast.

the doctor is calling tomorrow and if I haven’t kept it down he says I will have to go into hospital. So I have mixed feelings over the toast .

im just panicking about Christmas, DH is trying to get things done, but well you know 😥

Gingernaut · 07/12/2025 09:40

Took a Saver Slot delivery between 7am and 8am, had breakfast and washed up, got a load of washing done - ironed the t-shirt and I am now questioning my existence

Zippedydodah · 07/12/2025 09:41

Good morning everyone, it’s drizzling and very grey here this morning, I got very damp walking the dogs but at least it isn’t cold out.
i’ve made chicken stroganoff for dinner, we’ll have it with mashed potatoes and peas, there’s cherry pie for pudding (thanks to M&S!)
I need to do a bit of tidying up then the day’s to do as I please, I’ll get on with my crocheting and hopefully do some painting. I quite fancy getting my coloured pencils out too.
I’ll probably start reading a new book later, I’ll light the log burner too.

DilemmaDelilah · 07/12/2025 09:46

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

I've only just woken up, having been startled out of sleep by the sound of a picture being knocked onto the floor at the bottom of the stairs. We have a tiny cupboard there (to hide all the Wi-Fi router gubbins) upon which I stack all the books I have read but am not going to keep. (I am a voracious reader and get a lot of books from charity shops. I also possess only one bookcase - Mr Dilemma does not read and does not understand the need to retain books once they have been read, so only the books I cannot bear to part with can be kept). This stack is, at present, quite high and the books are rather precariously stacked. One of them fell over and, in falling, knocked the picture, which was rather dangerously close to the books, off the wall. Luckily it did not break.

We had a lovely, but very tiring, afternoon yesterday at the local Youth Orchestra performance. They had quite an ambitious programme and performed it very creditably, albeit with a very mixed level of skill. My grandson did very well, considering he only joined the orchestra this term. It was obvious that all the children were having a good time and that was lovely to see.

Today, we are off to see the same grandson in the Cathedral's performance of 'The Messiah'. This is a piece of music I have always loved and it will be even more enjoyable to see him in it. Only my eldest daughter and I are going to see it. Mr Dilemma will drop us off, and pick us and chorister grandson up at the end of it. He will need to find something to do for the time it is going on and, since parking in town is so difficult around Christmas time, I think he may just go home. We, on the other hand, will be listening to some sublime music and going to have a delicious hot chocolate in the cloister cafe in the interval.

Because we were so tired by the time we were coming home yesterday, we picked up a kebab on the way home. That means cold turkey, mashed potato and pickle for supper tonight as we didn't eat it yesterday. I will probably have ham salad for lunch, but I'm running a bit short on salad stuff so I may need to buy some more. That might be something I ask Mr Dilemma to do this morning. He likes shopping. I might even go with him - I need the exercise! This afternoon will be tiring, but very sedentary.

Witchywoo41 · 07/12/2025 09:50

Good morning everyone, @Grumpynanthat sounds awful, I hope you can keep the toast down and feel better soon.
Ive had three coffees and breakfast, trying to summon the energy to go in the shower and get ready for the panto! Now my kids are grown it’s all adults going so there will be a few mulled wines had and a lovely meal!

AlexaBeQuiet · 07/12/2025 09:54

Up 8am, put meat in the slow cooker for 5 hours.
Back to bed with a coffee and the Sunday Times online
Will get up about 11am, shower 12.30pm, then out for Sunday lunch at 2pm with friends
Home watch TV, bed and a day off tomorrow

Simonjt · 07/12/2025 09:57

Good morning, we had lots of snow over night so the kids have been playing out in that, they’re now both moaning that they’re cold and wet, so they’re on the sofa eating a very healthy snack, chocolate sandwiches.

We have a long drive and train journey home today, so a lot of the day will be taken up by that.

Have a nice sunday

BartholemewTheCat · 07/12/2025 10:15

Morning @lucysmam, morning everyone! Crappy start to the day as DC woke me up in the middle of the night having had a bad dream, then the cat scratching robustly at the lounge door got me up at 5am. So feeling quite grumpy and unmotivated despite having lots to do. Cafetière coffee and a slice of toast have helped, and I’m currently lolling watching a cookery programme whilst DC and the cat cuddle up next to me.

Awaiting supermarket food delivery and once that’s been dropped off it’ll be housework and batch cooking for the week whilst listening to The Rest is Politics. I also have to get out in the garden and clear some of the weeds.

Dinner is probably going to be chilli. Hot showers all round and then an early bedtime! So excited to be back in bed.

Have a lovely Sunday all.

Nigellastwinklylights · 07/12/2025 10:19

Good morning @lucysmam

I’m in bed, drinking tea and reading Mumsnet, which is my normal reply to these threads 😀.

I put up the Christmas decks yesterday, apart from the tree. Just wondering whether to venture out into the howling gale and buy a real Christmas tree or just get the 30 year old Woolworths tree out of the loft. We’re away for a lot of the Christmas holidays this year, so not sure I want to spend £50 on a real tree.

What do you think? 🎄

MinnieMountain · 07/12/2025 10:21

I’m sitting in the cold “watching” DS do his hockey practice.

DH is at the gym.

We’re having wild boar stew for lunch. I’m going to attempt a chocolate soufflé for pudding.

Then our first Christmas film of the season. Probably Home Alone.

MinnieMountain · 07/12/2025 10:23

@Nigellastwinklylights get the old one out. We don’t even have a tree up this year because we’re away and our new cat would attempt to climb it.

Kim82 · 07/12/2025 10:29

Good morning everyone. I’m hoping for a very chilled day today, I had a terrible nights sleep last night for some reason so I’m tired.

I need to go to the butchers today, pick my sister’s sewing machine up for dd18 to use and take ds24 to pick his car up from the train station at some point but they are my only plans for the day.

I could do with opening all of the Christmas present parcels that I’ve had delivered over the last few weeks - they’ve all just been thrown into a wardrobe unopened so far as I’ve just not had the time to go through them. Dd11 is going to the cinema with a friend at 12 today so I should do it then really as there’ll be no chance of any interruptions. Dd18 is coming home today at some point to use the sewing machine and she’ll stay the night before going back to uni. Tea tonight will be jacket potatoes with whatever filling people choose and then I’ll sprawl in front of the tv for the rest of the day before getting an early night. I am so ready to finish work for Christmas as I’m absolutely shattered but I’ve got 12 working days to go yet. It can’t come soon enough!

Peridot1 · 07/12/2025 10:36

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

I have been up for ages. Had a few cups of tea and a Marlborough bun for breakfast.
A quiet day planned here. Although we have our neighbours coming in for dinner later. My main plan is to finish off the Christmas decorating and get all the boxes back upstairs. Both Christmas trees are up. I have to do the mantel in the Living room and something in the hall.

DH is cooking lasagna for dinner. Hoping to either get to watch a Christmas movie or read my book at some stage. And have a few more Christmas presents to order.

Am having yet another cup of tea and am about to go and have a shower.

PermanentTemporary · 07/12/2025 10:41

Good morning all, and particular 🤞to Grumpynan with that toast…

Have been really looking forward to today and we managed to have an early cuddle followed by heading out to get the Christmas tree at the local barn - they are so nice and so organised (and so expensive, but we are easy marks). Home now and having a mince pie and coffee before tackling the decorations with some Christmas music. Feeling incredibly lucky as nobody we know is currently dying or critically ill, which is a change for this year. Also less than 2 weeks until ds comes home. Baked potatoes for dinner I think.

happytobemrsg · 07/12/2025 10:45

Today we are seeing an old friend for her DCs birthday. We were all part of the same friendship group 20 years ago but all drifted. So glad we’re back in touch!

So this morning I’ve had my favourite coffee out of my favourite cup while my DC did homework & DC1 played. I’ll be getting ready to go out shortly but I keep getting distracted by Paddington Bear on the tv

Guttyyyyyyyyy · 07/12/2025 10:49

Working a split shift today - back out this evening. Going to finish writing the Xmas cards later plus start the Xmas food shopping list. Bit of housework and maybe a kip - been working since 6am.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 07/12/2025 10:55

grumpy an that sounds awful for you. I hope the toast stays down.
I decided to push through the tiredness and just go, so I have bought more Christmas presents and I'm now home feeling very pleased with myself.
