Any kids from the 70/80/90's remember fan clubs?

Does anyone remember how you could be a member of a fan club? You would write in and they would send you a fan club badge and newsletters etc 😂

I remember loving Five Star and my mum getting me fan club membership which I thought was so cool. A members pack, a letter from 'the band' and cool badges.

Was anyone else in one?

I was in the Beano fan club, and had a Dennis the Menace badge and Gnasher badge with fluffy hair and googly eyes. Amd a plastic fan club card holder.

I loved them.

Oh gosh I was in a few!
Enid Blytons Famous Five club
The Tufty club
Beano
I’m sure there were more that I can’t remember. I loved getting stuff in the post!

I think I might have joined The Osmonds fan club.

I was in the kate bush fanclub. Still have the magazines and signed photo. I loved her. She inspired me to become vegetarian.

I had my five star signed photos on my bedroom wall for years. Until I grew up a bit more and became a Brosette 😄

There were so many ads for them in just 17 and smash hits. I never joined but wanted to.

pastapestoparmesan · 06/12/2025 14:42

I was in the puffin club (as in puffin books). So middle class!

ExquisiteDecorating · 06/12/2025 14:42

I was in The Jam fanclub. Photocopied and hand addressed newsletters from Paul Weller's sister or mum can't remember which.

NeedToKnow101 · 06/12/2025 14:46

I was in the Beano fan club and the Professionals fan club. I was completely obsessed with Bodie / Lewis Collins. I also did I-Spy books and sent completed ones to Chief Pow-Wow and got a certificate back.

I was in the Puffin Club too! I remember going to an event and getting Wilf Lunn's (Vision On) autograph! 😀

My friend was in the Madness Information Club - so much cooler!

Yes! This was what immediately came to mind for me as well. I loved my Gnasher badge.

Oh yes... I was in the take that fan club and the sun pat fan club

MrsBucketHat · 06/12/2025 15:03

Anyone remember the Smoke Busters?! I think I joined them through primary school sometime in the early 90s.

Friendlygingercat · 06/12/2025 15:04

Back in the 1960s I was in the Del Shannon and Roy Orbison fan clubs. I met another member via letters and we used to follow them around the country when they came over from the USA. We stayed at the same hotels and had a blast. I had my phtograph taken with Del Shannon and got his autograth on a 10 shilling note which I kept for ages. Anyone remember ten shilling notes?

Fitzcarraldo353 · 06/12/2025 15:29

I'm 49 and still in the Pearl Jam fanclub. Get email newsletters, printed ones every so often and most importantly, priority booking for gigs.

Yep I was a member of both Take That and Gladiators fan clubs back in the early 90s.

RaininSummer · 06/12/2025 19:02

I was in the Bay City Rollers fan club. About a year later I discovered Sabbath and other slightly older rock bands and Les and the gang were history. I did retain a soft spot for Woody though until I realised just how much sexier Robert Plant was .

notanothernamechangemother · 06/12/2025 19:41

I was the Kylie minogue fan club and beano, with googly eyed gnasher badge 😀

Fionasapples · 06/12/2025 19:43

I was in the Tufty Club, the Tingha and Tucker Club, Dennis the Menace Fan Club, New Seekers Fan Club, Bay City Rollers Fan Club. Not all at the same time!
