I’m taking a solo trip to London tomorrow

Just decided today, got childcare sorted and I’m going to hop on a flight tomorrow (I live in Northern Ireland) booked tickets to a show and just thought to hell with it

It’s been a rough few months, also using it as an excuse to get Christmas bits.
Do you think I’m being a bit mad?
I haven’t told my family yet
Im hoping to do a bit of solo travelling next year and I thought this would be a good start.

I think it sounds like a great idea. Enjoy yourself!

HelloCharming · 30/11/2025 17:43

Have a fab time.

placemats · 30/11/2025 17:46

Absolutely enjoy yourself. Regents Street, John Lewis and Liberty for the shopping.

Marylebone for the eating.

BIWI · 30/11/2025 17:47

Great idea! Hope you enjoy yourself.

rookiemere · 30/11/2025 17:47

London is great for going solo. What show are you seeing ?

WoahThreeAces · 30/11/2025 17:47

Sounds brilliant! I love London. You'll have a great time!

Luciferthethird · 30/11/2025 17:50

I’m worried I’ll get a bit bored
I booked Hamilton, I wanted good seats and I always felt a bit guilty asking someone to come with that wouldn’t be that interested

My bf and I of 2 years broke up there and I’m just starting to feel like myself again

Wonderful! You'll have a great time. All our Christmas lights are up in the city now and it's really pretty. I don't know what your budget is but I love shopping in Camden for unusual bits and pieces and its very reasonable to eat from the stalls there.

CakeIsNotAvailable · 30/11/2025 17:51

That sounds amazing! I go to London for work once a month and I often try to get down the day before so I can explore or shop. The second floor of Liberty is my happy place! I love wandering along the South Bank in the summer, though I'm not sure I'd fancy it in the cold and wet.

I'd love to go on holiday solo. I did a placement abroad alone briefly in my 20s and really enjoyed the freedom of travelling without factoring other people into my plans.

ThePoshUns · 30/11/2025 17:53

How exciting, good for you Op, have a wonderful time.

placemats · 30/11/2025 17:54

You won't get bored in London. I cat sit for my youngest daughter and her partner and often travel and walk around London solo. Love it - DDs were both born there.

You absolutely will not get bored! There is so much to see, even just walking around. Shops, lights, parks, amazing buildings. That’s before you’ve even thought about visiting museums or galleries or historic buildings or churches. It’s my favourite place in the world x

LizzieSiddal · 30/11/2025 17:55

That sounds wonderful. I only
live an hour away and love planning a solo trip to London. There’s always something to see/do, even just walking around is interesting.
Have fun!

Not at all mad, have a wonderful day.

Bored is something you will never be in London! Have a look for some galleries you'd like to go to. I like the National Portrait Gallery if I have some time to kill. You could wander round Chinatown afterwards. Also go to the Carnaby Sreet Christmas lights. No one cares if you're on your own. I have friends in London and my New Years resolution is to go there every 2 months in 2026!

Not in the least mad. I took off to Madrid for a few days on a whim last January. I do it periodically, at home or abroad. Have a great time.

MMBaranova · 30/11/2025 17:59

How are you flying? George Best to London City or further out?

Belfa International to Luton, I’ve been before and I don’t mind flying into Luton

From Luton, hop on the shuttle train to Luton Airport parkway, Thames link and change at Farringdon to the Lizzy line and you'll be in the West end in no time. Enjoy your day!

I really thought about going to Italy or something but I thought I’d test the waters closer to home first.
if this goes well I’m going to plan something further afield when the weather gets warmer
Thanks for being so supportive!

You’ll have a wonderful day! I live in fairly central London, one of my favourite things to do is just wander around by myself, stopping for a coffee, browse shops, explore. All of the Christmas lights are up, call in Covent Garden if you have time, the lights and tree there are fab.

MMBaranova · 30/11/2025 18:38

I have relatives in Ulster (Tyrone and Donegal) who are for ever debating the best ways to come across. Various pluses and minuses however you do it I think.

Fortunately I’m closer to the airport than Tyrone or Donegal not much closer mind you.

I’ve been to London 3 times now and flown into Stansted, Gatwick and Luton. I find them much the same tbh

This will be the first time on my own…

I’ve started solo travelling this year and I love it. I always get so anxious the day before (cheers peri meno!), but love just being able to please myself.
I lived in London for my first 40 years, and still go back all the time- there’s always things to do, especially at this time of year.
