What's simmering away in your slow cooker on this wet Saturday morning?

It's slow cooker weather and I've had beef short ribs on the go since 07.00

Only just getting the aroma - had to check that I'd switched it on!

Yum! When can I come round?

Westfacing · 29/11/2025 10:04

Early afternoon I'd say - but they haven't half shrunk - had difficulty squashing the four of them in, now they're barely touching!

Nothing today (burgers for dinner) but tomorrow it will be a Moroccan lamb stew 😋

Vegetable biryani.

Beef goulash here. Following the Hairy Bikers recipe after I requested recommendations on here. Their recipe is for the oven but I've followed all the first steps and just transferred to the slow cooker (reduced the amount of liquid accordingly). It smells delicious already 😋.

Pluckmeoutbluemoon · 29/11/2025 10:52

Today a bolognaise.
Tomorrow will be a gammon joint.

DilemmaDelilah · 29/11/2025 11:13

I have never really had successes with my slow cooker. I would love some tips!

Not recipes, and I already know not to put in too much liquid. We have a metal one... do you think they can be less successful than ceramic ones?

Vegetable biryani.

Please post the recipe if you have time.

PoorUncleBarry · 29/11/2025 11:17

I also have a Hairy Bikers recipe, its sausage casserole and it's loved in this house.

JudgeBread · 29/11/2025 11:20

A pork shank in cider and stock, going to shred it when it's ready and stir through my homemade cranberry BBQ sauce (to make it mildly festive), then stick it in the oven to caramelise and crisp up a bit.

Will be served with rolls, caramelised onions, slaw and corn on the cob.

Who the heck gets up before 7 on a Saturday and starts cooking?!

DarkEyedSailor · 29/11/2025 11:37

I'm always up at 8 for the dog at the weekend, but when I worked in care I was up at 5!

DarkEyedSailor · 29/11/2025 11:43

@RegusGirl certainly- it's actually a lamb one with vegetables instead of meat, from an old Lalita Ahmed recipe book. It's meant to be done in the oven but it works very well in the slow cooker. Am I allowed to post a photo? I'll have a go.

I've used carrots, mushrooms, onions and kidney beans.

EDIT: damn it's blurry on here, it was fine when I took it! I can PM it to you?

Nothing today as we're having a takeaway but yesterday it was chicken & red lentil stew in the slow cooker.

Thingamebobwotsit · 29/11/2025 11:58

Beef bourginon

I love the Hairy Bikers sausage casserole @SpiceGhoul how much have ypu reduced the liquid by? Haven't tried it in the slow cooker.

SpiceGhoul · 29/11/2025 12:22

@Thingamebobwotsit the recipe calls for 600ml of water and I think I've used less than half of that probably around 200/250 ml. Still used the full tin of tomatoes and puree but it looks about right at the moment. I won't add the peppers until later or they'll turn to mush!

MinnieMountain · 29/11/2025 12:29

Does it count if it’s something we made earlier in the slow cooker and froze?

Beef barbacoa to have with home made tacos.

steppemum · 29/11/2025 12:45

Jamie Olivers veg chilli.
Actually for a church lunch tomorrow, not for us!

MaplePumpkin · 29/11/2025 12:51

These all sound delicious!

Weve got a chicken and chorizo stew in, will serve with rice and sour cream. Tomorrow a gammon. I love slow cooker season!

FeatheryFlorence · 29/11/2025 12:54

Unstuffed cabbage soup. I make no apologies for this, for those of you who don’t have a Central/Eastern European or Balkan background, it is delicious, and much better than it sounds. Have also made six jars of sweet orange and ginger marmalade and six jars of mincemeat. Now making a cake to take to the in laws tomorrow.

Kitchenbattle · 29/11/2025 12:54

No slow cooker weather here! Pizza for dinner tonight. But you have reminded me I need to buy a new slow cooker 🙌
