Anecdote about wanking off three men in a random wood in Edinburgh or something. Everyone laughed hysterically.

Is it just me or have TV chat shows gone really downhill? Confused

Can happy people discuss

  1. The message MM may be giving young women by her assertion that she ‘couldn’t really say no’
  2. Whether it’s a sign of misogyny that MM can’t just be interviewed in relation to her obvious talents as an actor
  3. Whether 2 has led MM to develop a persona to keep her in the public eye, particularly given that she is neither young nor beautiful
  4. Whether similar stories from a man would be acceptable

Of course they can, don't be silly

Sesma · 29/11/2025 12:46

She reminds me of those awful crude male comedians that were around in the 80s and 90s

Love graham norton show. Love the mix of guests he has. I do like MM. however, it felt like she was very rude to the male guest and trying to make it all about her and talking over people. Don’t mind her at all. But was a bit uncomfortable last night just due to her rudeness.

I agree she can be a bit rude

I loved how Skarsgard's response was to politely tell her that she could in fact have said no.

But then she wouldn't have her 'story', would she?

Oh. I’ll assume you haven’t RTFT then.

Dare I say it, part of appreciating someone's humour is seeing the nuance - someone using vulgar language is not just someone using vulgar language. There are a million different ways of doing it.

Nuanced? I’m not sure that’s a word I’d describe Miriam’s humour. It’s the most basic and gross toilet humour, it’s not witty or earthy or even funny. She’s an intelligent woman I think she does herself a disservice with the ‘humour’ route she’s chosen.

cardibach · 29/11/2025 12:52

ForHazelTiger · 29/11/2025 12:25

Criticising is one thing... but 'vile', 'vulgur' etc - it's really quite extreme!

To be fair, her behaviour is quite extreme.
It’s not envy. It doesn’t show I’m unhappy. In fact, I’m really happy with my life and just having a little browse on here before going to bake a cake and make some Christmas gin. Tomorrow I’ll be doing some training about handling dogs at the dogs’ home where I volunteer. This is just a couple of minutes. I’ve also commented on other threads.

Hellodarknessyouoldprick · 29/11/2025 12:22

Um.. I do.

She’s put herself in the public eye. She didn’t have to be an actress. Or, she could have been an actress but chosen not to be so ridiculous for attention.

Either way, put yourself in the public eye, people will talk.

Chatting shit on a forum about someone I actually don’t give much thought to does not show my level of happiness. I can say I think she’s a dick and them move on with my day.

Would I only be happy if I said good things about celebrities?

People will talk, yes. Narrow minded people who in 2025 are apparently are still shocked and disgusted by an older woman telling dirty jokes 😏

I am glad you are happy. I didn't say envy was the only reason someone might not like MM.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 29/11/2025 12:58

@ForHazelTiger people are not narrow minded for being put off, people are allowed like different things. Maybe you love a good wanking joke, that doesn't make you more open minded.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 29/11/2025 12:59

I think she is absolutely repulsive. I can’t watch or listen to her.

Envy isn’t any reason for not liking her for her crude and coarse persona. It’s not in the mix at all.

I’m not shocked and disgusted by them. I’m bored by them. I find her belief that she’s funny and interesting when she talks like this sad and her rudeness vile.

Lafamiliaestodo · 29/11/2025 11:27

We've had dementia!

Its not her fault. Some undiagnosed condition is forcing her on to TV at aged 84 to talk utter crap.

The dollar signs lighting up ???🤔

I really don't - I'm like the quietest most reserved person ever. The point with MM is that she's saying something a nice middle class Jewish woman is not supposed to say. That's the joke.

There is nothing funny about the fact that she decided to help out several men, in such a manner, and then talk about it, more than once.

Shocked, no. Disgusted, absolutely. It's vile from the mouth of an 84 year old or a 24 year old.

Entertaining? Really?

So you were a staunch supporter of Bernard Manning and Chubby Brown as well as MM then? Well if those three are your taste in humour it must be maddening for you that we’ve moved on from that style nowadays.

But it’s now exactly the sort of thing you’d expect MM to say. The unexpected joke element has disappeared. She’s become a caricature

cardibach · 29/11/2025 12:07

Isn’t luring guests into saying stuff they might not otherwise reveal the job of an interviewer?

You’d think so wouldn’t you? But at some point somebody at the BBC decided that from now on some other consideration should be the priority.

It sounds like it could be a metaphor for something but I can’t think what.

cardibach · 29/11/2025 13:02

It may have been the joke when she first did it. It’s not now.

Celebrities get invited to these things to basically repeat the same schtick again and again - that's how they make money. She's been invited on to tell her outrageous stories, so she does. I love how she is so open about how everything she does is for the money. She really doesn't give a fuck about keeping to the rules . We need more women like this!

In your opinion - humour and taste are infinitely nuanced and complicated things. It's now become a thing that everyone knows she's going to be rude, which has itself become the joke.

Dappy777 · 29/11/2025 13:07

I have reached an age where I can’t bear TV anymore. Most chat shows and comedy shows have the vibe of a schoolroom. The humour and conversations remind me of the stuff I’d hear the popular, but nasty, kids say at school.
